I can understand some might be uneasy about the new Apple Remote not having the U1 chip with the remote finder feature but it's ridiculous that some people here are saying that Apple has some nerve trying to push the AirTags immediately after the AppleTV remote presentation. So what? It's business. Apple isn't your friend. People need to get over it. If anyone here was running a major corporation they will do exactly as Apple does, trying to maximize profit by offering more accessories to their customers. If anyone says they wouldn't do this then they are not being honest and only because the company in question is Apple.

I don’t want to be that guy but...this is the kind of obvious oversight that is so common in the Tim Cook era, and is the kind of thing Steve would have insisted on.

Relax. What do you care so personally for? Bizarre.

I'm sure many will make excuses for Apple, but there is none here.

This is sloppy and not acceptable.

You design and release a new remote - a device that is frequently "lost" around the house - and don't absolutely include it in the U1 "locate me" plans?

I'm sorry - just terrible on Apple's part.

im upset it doesnt have the U1, but what pathetic excuse is this for being angry about it. "frequently lost around the house" - where the hell are you walking with your remote? we frequently displace it within the room the ATV is in, but never once have we carried that thing out of the room. this is absurd.

Well that's lame of them. But if I end up getting one or more of these remotes, I'll probably still buy a 3rd-party white silicone case for the remote. That's one of the best upgrades I did for my other Apple TV remotes, and in addition to making it more comfortable to hold (and not accidentally hold it upside down), it also makes it less prone to slipping between the sofa cushions and the white color I prefer also makes it easier to spot.

How frequently do people lose their remotes and keys? Honestly I've never been unable to find my remote for more than about 10 seconds. It'd take longer to launch an app than the couple seconds to check around the couch, there it always is.
Now imagine you have five small kids who know how to use the Apple TV. This is my hell and why I am pissed Apple didn’t include it. LOL... they straight up lost one of our Apple TV remotes, never to be found again.

Well Airtags to the rescue or buy one of the older AppleTV devices.

Wait, do people seriously need a tracking capability for a remote?
Sure, but especially because it exists and is so clearly a thing that could be included in the remote. A full, standalone airtag is $29. Put the damn chip in there.

It’s such sloppy and distasteful oversight from the tech company formerly known for such lovely attention to user experience.

Do you really need AR to help you know to look in the couch?
Couch, no. Over there, or under the table, or behind the books, or in a book, or by the sink, or ... kids, man. They move stuff. Don’t always put it back.

But I don’t think the AR is really the complaint. I’d appreciate a pinging, like the Watch does with the Phone. Maybe the Watch — which also unlocks the computer, which despite being a desktop also has Find My enabled, and how often does that get lost in the couch? — could do that with the Remote, which, yes, the Phone can also be.

It’s a weird line to draw.

Someone has never been a victim of quick kids - or even better, a guest's quick kids.

Sticky fingers, those little ones. 🤣
