hmm let me look into this

Checked on iPad with Firefox and Safari and still have 5 showing up. I logged out, cleared all cookies and cache, Logged back in, marked all forums read and it persists.

Is it was possible to add “Mark as read” to the ‘Select All’ drop down menu on the watched threads page so we can clear it all in one go?

I wonder if it could be that there are pages you haven’t read yet in those threads you marked as read that are still treating the whole thread as not being read?

Edit...

I just managed to get rid of the watched thread unread counter.

Not sure if something was fixed. But all I did was open the unread threads, navigated the ‘jump to new’, then went back to the first page & then to the last page. They eventually registered as read.

In case you didn't notice there is a Mark Read button next to every thread.

Not quite the same, but helpful.

I think that's the default setting. Usually it's not a big deal, but now I'll be more likely to unwatch a thread.

Yeah because I (& I think others) may look at any notification & want to clear it. & that red box in dark mode just eats away at me to be cleaned up 😂

Can we get an option in preferences to turn this off?

No matter how many times and on various devices I've logged in and out of the site on and used the mark all forums read button, I still have this red 5 which persists in the menu bar.

Really, it's not a feature I find useful, for my use case anyway. My landing page for MacRumors when I log in is the unread threads page anyhow. That's where start off and once I get through those, then I start browsing around other areas.

So an option to disable that would be nice for me.

Been doing a little digging. My best guess is that because you use to be a moderator, you are still Watching several moderator threads... so it's counting those as unread even though you can't see the threads so they don't appear in your list.

Let me see if I can remove them from your watched list. Or find a more graceful way of handling this.

Hi!

For eye sight reasons, I usually use the CMD + combination in Safari to enlarge the font size.
However, this causes the emojis on the site to look weird, this is a screenshot:

I mean it is not the biggest deal, as I've been seeing the emojis that way since the redesign, but if you can easily fix it, it would be nice. If it's not easy to fix, don't bother, it is not that important.

it doesn't look like there's a quick fix.

There is a setting for font size in preferences. I have mine at extra large so I can see the words better.

What does that mean?
I thought you were referring to text size preferences in accessibility on iOS and iPadOS. This problem with emoji resizing doesn't happen in iOS/iPadOS. On macOS, to make fonts bigger I use the CMD and + combination, that enlarges the content of the web in Safari, but the MacRumors emojis apparently don't scale very well, and they look that way, specially if you make the content bigger and resize Safari's window.

Now, if you mean that there's a text size preference in macOS settings, I'll be glad to know it. Unless it is a setting exclusive of HiDPI screen Macs, like the scaling option in Preferences -> Screen. I can't use that option on a 1080p monitor.

No, I meant preferences on MacRumors.

I was using the resizing command in Firefox to enlarge font on the site until a few days ago I was poking around in MacRumors preferences for something else and saw the font size option.

Apologies for any confusion. Maybe that link will help you like it did for me.

Oh, I didn't even remember there was a preference pane on MacRumors! I'm sure theres's still some interesting new feature I haven't discovered yet. Thank you, now I see the fonts like it is at 115% but having Safari rendering it at 100%, however the width of the page was larger with the browser command. I will play with both to get the best from the two worlds. Thanks again.

Taking a look at the site's preferences, I see a lot of "Alert" and "push" notifications for several actions. I guess the "Alerts" are email alerts, or site alerts, but the Push notifications are for iOS, right? How does this work? Do MacRumors plan to release an app, or is it possible to have push notifications on Safari on iOS as well?

Maybe it just refers to push notifications for the desktop browser. By the way, Safari (macOS) doesn't ask if I want to activate those notifications when I visit MacRumors anymore... Maybe it is something related with catalina, or maybe it is a MacRumors thing, I don't know.

I mean, I did a fresh install of Catalina 10.15.5 (security patch included) few days ago, and I haven't been prompted to enable this Safari push notifications like it did in the past, here's the proof:

I think I fixed it. I used the unwatch all threads option to unsubscribe from everything. I lost all subscriptions but that’s no biggie, I can resubscribe to what I want to follow.

The text size preference is just for the forum. As a suggestion, that could be applied to both forum text size and front page text size.

Cheers.

With this new counter it does seem like having some additional options, if possible, would be good. Like being able to mark all watched threads as read, or perhaps an option to be able to sort or filter watched threads so that the unread ones can easily be found.

Having the option to enable/disable the counter can be something good to have as well.

Hi, it’s great to have an Apple Silicon ARM sub-forum. However, I don’t see how the X from Mac OS X is representative as a forum icon. Maybe something like a cool A12Z SoC?

We're working on it. It's what I had handy. :)

Here’s a bug on the mobile version of the site. This happens specifically on my iPhone 8, with a 4,7” screen, and iOS 12, but I suspect it is not related to the operating system.

1. First, we see a thread where we want to reply. We instinctively tap on “Write your reply” field.

2. Then, after tapping in the reply box, suddenly the screen moves and we see nothing but the keyboard:

If we type the reply we can’t literally see a word of what we’re typing. Maybe we can rely on the keyboard suggestions but it is a pain not watching what your typing.

The only solution is manually scrolling the screen to relocate the reply box in the small area where we can read it. The place where (in my opinion), the reply box should move after the keyboard appears. Like this:

Hopefully you understood the issue I’m having on a 4,7” screen. Probably this won’t be an issue on a bigger screen.
