Struggling to decide between the black/slate and the black/graphite

I might order two iPhones in one of each colour and see which looks better in the flesh and return the unwanted one, that's if I still can't decide :D

I hope that you get that chance given the rumours and speculation that the black/graphite is a replacement for the black/slate rather than an additional colour option.

People's tastes are different but for my part, based on the pictures and videos that I've seen, I'm not understanding all this love for the graphite/black option; to me it looks way worse than the slate/black. I really hope that Apple do retain the black/slate option for the 5S.

If the black graphite is a replacement for the black/slate, then that will make my choice even easier :)

If it is indeed true that the black/graphite is the replacement for the black/slate. This seems a very odd thing to do.

Reason I say this is because, by the looks of things we are going to have two white variants of the iPhone (white/champagne and white/silver). Seems a odd thing to do, to just have one black variant. I suppose we'll know soon enough.

Well Thanks for the precisions. But still I am really curious to know the name of that color edition of the phone. I was actually born and raise in Reims, champagne, and I know they don't joke about this kind of things. It's a worlwide known beverage and they already don't appreciate the rumor that this is might be used. The champagne society is a very close and controlled micro society. With a lot of power.

I'm sure they can easily stop Apple from selling any beverages under the name "champagne". I doubt they can do anything about an iPhone with that name. And I don't quite get why they would even want to? Do they think there is anyone saying "this year I'm going to spend $600 on champagne. I'm buying a champagne iPhone, so there is no money left for sparkling wine"?

Apple will tell you it's innovation (if they ever do it).

Surely they have to be looking into larger sizes though.

And nobody will buy that. We all know that big screen size is not innovation, I hope.

So... a new iPhone is coming?
No it isn't actually, iPhone 5 update is coming, the same looking, indistinguishable from one year old iPhone 5 is coming, but hey, it may offer Champagne colour, faster CPU and finger print scanner...
Oh, oh, I forgot, dual flash as well... How is that for innovation..? ;)

So, here is a question. What would the iPhone need to have to be classed as new?

It's funny to me how Tim Cook said he was doubling down on secrecy and yet we have more leaks of the new iPhone 5S than any other iPhone ever. We are getting even more footage of the 5S cases than when Gizmodo got an iPhone 4.

Unless I missed something, we haven't seen any shots of the front of the 5S or any other part that would confirm a fingerprint scanner. You can argue whether that represents a significant added feature (it does to me), but the fact that there haven't been any photo or video leaks is pretty impressive at this stage.

I really do like the iPhone 5 design, but the differentiation of colours on the back is something I have not been a big fan of. It doesn't look to bad but IMO could look lot better unified colour.

I think we are going to see some interesting new design on iPhone 6. And a larger screen could very well be possible. By the way, I am very comfortable with the actual screen size but why not a bigger screen for many people who love iPhone but prefer a slightly bigger screen?

I liked the iPhone 4 and 4s yet have no real issue removing the glass from the back. The two tone color was my main issue. For upcoming phones and the ipod Touch line I still think the back cover should match the front, it looks silly having a orange back with a black or white front, makes it feel uneven.

I larger screen would be nice, two options, 4" and something like a 5" screen, not sure Apple would go that large, maybe in the 4.7" or so range. I like the galaxy note size however the first gen can be a bit awkward.

The average iPhone user is most likely on a contract and not that interested in what is next. When they are ready (contract down) they'll upgrade.

The news mention a few things here and there, but even that is only of interest for the tech savvy.

I do think that eventually the Apple presentations for marginal product upgrades will go by the wayside and be replaced by shorts "consumer" clips on their website.

The iPhone and iPad category has now matured to a point where not much NEW can be done.

If it even has the fingerprint scanner. There have been leaks of the home button already and so far, no fingerprint scanner found in there, that is if those home button leaks are legitimate.

It would make sense.
If there would only be the champagne, black and white then they had two iPhones with white front/glass and only one iPhone with black front/glass.
With adding the graphite version it is symmetric and balanced.

And about the leaks, every year will have more and more leaks because Apple is producing more and more iPhones for launch every year.

Samsung wouldn't do that. They would poke fun at customers. "Oh look, how stupid, he bought a gold iPhone". People buying huge phones because of their own inferiority complex like that kind of advert.

People buy larger phones because it is more convenient to use. You can see more, even if you increase the font size. I have an S4 and an iPhone 4S and it is when you go back to the iPhone you start appreciating the added value of a larger screen. I think if you want to find people with the inferiority complex, you should look around the snobs who buy the phone for its name.

Does anyone actually need a fingerprint scanner on a phone?
Is it too much effort to input a 4-digit code to unlock the phone, and if so, how reliable are these fingerprint scanners, and how much hassle is it when they go wrong?

Adding a feature to a phone 'just because you can' which is fun to show off to a friend a couple of times and then becomes just another thing that can go wrong seems utterly pointless.

So do you think Apple coul stop anyone making a new sparking drink called "iPhone fizz"

Seems like he graphite phone has silver edges like the white and champagne.
If that's the case that could be the end of the slate option as those edges were the first thig to scratch off and reveal the silver. This could be their answer to scuff gate.

I predict no slate 5s.

It would unlock you phone sure, but so much else as well. It could input you passwords to sites like Amazon or EBay with just a touch of your finger.

Can't call a phone innovative with no SD slot. Sorry.

So you mean increasing the screen is innovation?

What a bunch of kids, I want 4.5"! No, I want 5"! or we can go to the mall and have a full selection of sizes for everyone.

I said "at least..." and you can't get that from any mall, only from the other side of the competition, S4.

screensize is not as simple as you think. all components inside, plus iOS and apps, have to support a larger size in a mass production.

I doubt if they'd be allowed to do so, but it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't want anyone using the name. Everyone is obsessed with IP and brand ownership, and they'd love to have exclusive usage of that word even if they don't know what they'd do with it. They certainly wouldn't want anyone else edging in on their brand, even if it doesn't directly affect them in any way.
