So tinfoilers aren't so tinfoily now? As others have said this isn't really a surprise. Nothing online or other forms of communication is secure. The US got Pablo Escobar in the early 90's by using signal intercepts. How many are going to change their habits after this? My guess is the same amount of people that changed their habits when Snowden dropped his info.

How is this confusing to you? By keeping the story going instead of calling it absurd?
Only if "keeping a story going" means "linking to an article that debunks the claims". The only way I could see you being right is if "keeping a story going" was translated to "The word Pizzagate was used and I'm too lazy to read the story so I assume it's perpetuating it".

Honestly, what habits could possibly be changed? The NSA has tapped into every one of the underseas cables for interception.

Generally they just pay others to do it. China pays commercial developers for their exploits, though with no real rights there are no need for warrants in China. Makes it far easier to get away with using such exploits.

....That tweet was posting CBS's debunking of the story.

You just singlehandedly disproved your own asinine statement.

The first link is dead, the second link is to a file about pedophilia symbols. As if there's a connection between the podesta emails and pedophilia symbols. guilt by association. If I post a link to your profile and a link to the same symbols, people will think I'm drawing a line between the two.

Yes, he bragged about it. On tape. We have it on tape.

Here's a list of the women accusing Trump of sexual assault:

http://nymag.com/thecut/2016/10/all-the-women-accusing-trump-of-rape-sexual-assault.html

Want me to dig up the list of women who've accused Bill of assault? But let me guess, they are all liars and Trump's alleged victims are all honest good women?

The fact is, whatever gross things Trump said, he didn't get impeached for lying about using his position to manipulate a woman half his age into having sex. He also hasn't settled (to the best of my knowledge) with multiple women out of court over sexual assault claims. He might be a pig, but Bill Clinton has a verified and documented history of abuse. But the good mindless Hillary lovers who destroyed this election don't care. We'd have President Sanders today we're it not for the ego and selfishness of the Clinton sycophants.

Will maybe you should read about the number of fake reports regarding climate change, not from some unknown but from the UN no less. Almost every major article about global warming had been debunked by science if you care to look.

People don't give up their freedoms unless they are told that it is a crisis, for example, terrorism or global warming.

Bush did this with the Patriot Act and the media went right along with it as well as most people. It was one of the single biggest attacks on our freedom ever.

Obama and Gore did it with Global Warming and Obama with Health Care with the same result. In this case the target was to enrich the political elites and make the cost of living a middle class lifestyle tremendously more expensive. Everyone that studies history knows that in order for absolute government power the government has to destroy the middle class and limit their freedoms. This is going on all around us, but a least 50% of the people don't want to hear it, or deal with it.

The media has been very effecting getting at least half the people in the US to believe crisis after crisis that just do not exist.

holy **** lol

But still rather than talk about the information released, half the country will attack the messenger. History says this happens when people want to divert away from the truth.

Messengers are suppose to release information no matter who's it is about. But it seems in the past since Trump started campaigning, their leaks are about Trump's opponents. Which they should have been exposed. But you mean to tell me they don't have any dirt of Trump and the RNC?

Also this latest leak comes at a time where Trump is trying to throw as many deflections as possible to stop people from talking about his admin's connection to Russia.
[doublepost=1488912426][/doublepost]
So it's reckless to post a story that debunks the conspiracy theory? What would Snopes do?!?!

Steve Job's story isnt the only one. What about the public Saudi figures who were outed? They've released very personal information about people.

Which they should have been exposed. But you mean to tell me they don't have any dirt of Trump and the RNC?

I don't understand this reasoning. If I am a witness to a murder the cops don't ask me to prove that the victim also murdered someone. As long as the murder I am talking about is real, that's all it matters for the specific case.
We have no idea about any other leak they might have, we don't know if they have RNC material. That doesn't mean that the DNC leaks, or today's CIA leaks, are of any less gravity.

You seem to think Bill Clinton was running for office. He wasn't.

> But let me guess, they are all liars and Trump's alleged victims are all honest good women?

Nope. I wasn't voting for him. Anyone who has a problem with sexual assault should have a problem with Trump.

Let's break this down for you:

Trump: I brag about grabbing women by the p****y.
Women: It's true, he did.
You: Those liars! He was just sayin' stuff. He didn't really mean it!

I honestly don't remember that one, I would have to investigate a little bit. (any link? PM if possible)

Did you care as much as the list of women accusing Bill Clinton of the same, if not worse behavior? His list will be just as long, if not longer.
Meanwhile, the government is being dismantled while we're too busy playing team sports politics.....

Weird, I didn't see Bill Clinton on the ballot.

At least you agree sexual assault is wrong and one shouldn't commit or brag about it.

This is news? lol.

The government has ALWAYS tried to spy on its citizens, legally or illegally. People are just too naive and oblivious to believe such facts.

Problem with the truth, no one usually believes it and it usually hurts.

The point is not the leaked information per se (which should surprise no-one) but the source of the leaks and the reason for them. The source of the leaks is WikiLeaks, so basically the Trump/Assange/Putin axis. The reason is that they are clearly at war with the US Deep State (the NSA, CIA, much of the entrenched state department, etc).

THAT is the news --- that in a way that has never occurred before, there is a virtual civil war between
one side ("The Good Shepherd" -
Joseph Palmi: Let me ask you something... we Italians, we got our families, and we got the church; the Irish, they have the homeland, Jews their tradition; even the *******, they got their music. What about you people, Mr. Wilson, what do you have?

Edward Wilson: The United States of America. The rest of you are just visiting.)

and the other side
(basically those discontent with the modern world and the modern order).

This has happened before --- think Andrew Jackson for example --- but that doesn't mean it's going to be all Skittles and Roses. The fact that you may loath the CIA and NSA doesn't mean that Putin's worldview is a better replacement...

So what happens next? I'm guessing the Deep State opens up a two front war. On the one hand, Russia and WikiLeaks are going to have a somewhat harder time --- expect the "known but ignored" Russian operatives in the US, for example, to get their marching orders. On the other hand, Obama didn't order any wiretaps on Trump, but I expect there are going to be perpetual wiretaps on him and his crew from now on, with every damn slip he makes collected up for an eventual atomic-bomb-sized release to all the press of the world.

Not only is Bill's behavior worse, but it is documented and verified, unlike anything Trump has been accused of. And mind you, I'm no Trump fan. But all this "assaulting women" crap is just that, crap! Bill actually assaulted women and got busted multiple times. Hillary, the self proclaimed champion of women's issues, has stood side by side with a man who assaults women for decades...but Trump is the bad guy? Only in America!

Legitimately able to finish a sentence? I agree.

Democracy is an illusion when organizations like the CIA are able to operate the way they have for decades. For all this ******** about Russia (conveniently ignoring our well publicized meddling in Russia's own 1996 elections....) we've used this agency (and others) to overthrow democracies all over the world, especially in South America. Hell just earlier this year we learned that we were shaping the Italian elections for decades!

It's ok if you can wave the good old stars and stripes in front of the public though, go figure.

Dump the modern conveniences. I seriously doubt anyone including myself is about to do that. One of the best posts in this thread is the poster that said something to the affect of who would have thought that instead of being forced to have these instruments in our homes and persons we would voluntarily take them in.
I imagine most of don't feel like this is a big deal because nothing we do is worth spying on. I'm not saying that is the right attitude to have, it's just the one that most people will have. What's the alternative and who are you going to turn to in order to fix these issues? The government? The ones that approved the PATRIOT act, FISA Courts and every other similar government action since the creation of the intelligence agencies?

You realize that what you just wrote is libel (a crime) right?

Trump: “Grab them by the *****. You can do anything.”

If it's without their permission, this is sexual assault. You think it's worse to describe what he's doing than for him to actually do it?

Yea, those FISA courts are a real beacon of upholding civil liberties.

http://www.latimes.com/nation/la-na-fisa-court-records-20160419-story.html

Tell me, do you know what a National Security Letter is?
Yes and my statement stands, "Extreme National Security", applies. In the extreme abuse of NSL's after 911, approximately 25K were issued, or .008 percent of the US population. Since then new oversight implemented and the number of requests have dropped to around 14K. A necessary tool but far from what I would call the sky is falling on our rights. The same with the parallel constructionism as noted earlier. Effective tools that are used when needed and as with the NSL's if they get abused as after 911, corrections are made. I for one will not loose any sleep over these numbers.

Don't conflate (erroneously associate) the term covert with the term conspiracy. The failure to remain covert does not nullify the conspiracy.
Conspiracy: noun; a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful. (src. New Oxford American Dictionary, emphasis added)

My point is if a conspiracy has no demonstrable hard evidence, it's probably not because the group behind it is super effective, but rather because it doesn't exist. Because groups are really bad at keeping secrets these days, even if their entire job is "keeps secrets."
