I think the Late 2016 MBP *should* have been released earlier in the year (maybe around WWDC)... albeit we know that the battery tech wasnt ready. That way, Apple could get KabyLake MBPs ready by mid-late 2017.

Prediction:
The next MBP refresh will have:
-form fitted battery
-mag safe
-kaby lake
-32GB RAM limit
-maybe new display tech?

Having owned the 9550 XPS 15-inch version until five weeks ago, I can absolutely tell everyone that it was the worst notebook experience ever. Super unresponsive display with severe ghosting, bios updates introducing new problems like screen flicker (still not solved on the 4k version after six months) etc. I can not stress enough what a joy it is to use the MBP instead. Even though I had to pay twice the price for it. Absolutely worth to me with 5+ use every day.

Maybe an increase in battery size marginally.
-mag safe
No way they will change the form factor of the mac in anyway.
-kaby lake
Probably.
-32GB RAM limit
As explained, not possible in Kaby Lake, but apple could throw out some surprises.
-maybe new display tech?
Seems possible (though I am not sure they will change the screen on the brand new Macbook Pro after months or so) with recent rumours of IGZO displays.

i don't understand the form fitted battery aspect considering that there's no tapered edge in the laptop. if anything, apple could've added a larger battery but chose to leave a lot of blank space. it wasn't like they needed new technology macbook style. it's really puzzling.

Tell that to my original 2008 unibody, which missed out on FW :)

I dont know in what form MagSafe functionality will be resurrected, whether its a new power port, or a modified USB-C connector, etc.... but it will make a comeback in some later revision. The functionality it provided is too good to disappear, and possibly the only "negative" thing from a features perspective of the new MBPs, IMHO.

My guess is that they'll figure out wireless charging before putting back a port like Magsafe ;). Replace the bottom with a ceramic panel and presto ;).

That sounds possible... but if and when they do that, they could also decide to remove the USB-C ports, because you know...thinner. :D

Which is why they couldn't just wait for these new processors. People were getting very upset with the lack of updates. Delaying it for a few more months would do more harm than good. And these new processors are only 25% faster than processors released FOUR YEARS AGO. Not worth delaying something over.

And you guys complaining about no NVIDIA GPUs. Do you guys realize these are not gaming machines? They are not marketed towards Crysis or heavy gaming. And the software that apple uses makes use out of OpenCL and not CUDA. I always get better performance out of my AMD cards than my NVIDIA cards on my macs due to this.

The Kabylake tock is mainly about energy efficiency, not raw grunt, and that's clearly something that the new MPB with its shrunken battery and current mystery woes would have benefited from.

I suspect the sudden downgrade was linked to the Note fiasco: the latest li-ion compression techniques are industry-wide, and an industry-wide panic.

one thing about kaby lake is that early returns don't show a dramatic increase in battery life. i doubt the next gen macbook will do better than another hour on kaby lake alone. Look for technologies around kaby lake to drive most of the efficiencies.

I can see them adding back a USB-A in addition...

Lets see if they have the courage to ship the next iPad/iPhone with a USB-C cable only, considering that 90-95%+ of their costumers still only will have a USB-A connector available.

Mmm... a lightning to USB-C cable... possibly the most obtuse 2017 cable possible!

For new design, Apple choose to provide small battery and not latest display technology for their future,
as Macbook 12 they try to use latest technology such as very low power display and advantage battery,
Apple choose not provide best to user and they can provide it in the next model to give good Marketing.

Apple is very precision for marketing, in this new model, they focus on the "technology pioneer " (somebody rich for use latest and expensive machine, upgrade their iPhone every years, and they thing themselves is technology persons ).
Only the non touch bar model is good for real user, and 15" is definitely too expensive and no iGPU version for choose.

Here's a few tricks:

for screenshot it's the built-in snipping tool (use cortana to launch or press the Windows key, type the first letters until Snipping tools appears). You can highlight & draw in your capture + copy & paste in any applications.
...
CTRL-F4: close current window from a MDI application (or close current tab in a browser)
...
GOD MODE
: create a new folder (location doesn't matter, you can create it on your desktop), use this for the name : GodMode.{ED7BA470-8E54-465E-825C-99712043E01C}
Most of the ones you posted I knew, although I mainly use the surface pen for screenshots. It just takes a bit of getting used to compared to the screens hotting on a mac. I didn't know about ctrl-F4 for the current windows in an MDI application, although I do use that for browser tabs, and this is the first time I heard about the god mode, but that is a pretty convenient one. Thanks for the tips. :)

Nvidia 1050 have same performance as the amd gpus in these new macbook pros. Its only 1060 thats better but eat tons more power

That is not true. The 1050 is slightly faster, but its because of faster VRAM clocks and higher overall power consumption. What is the same is performance per Watt (in fact, AMD could have a lead here).

yeah but very slightly, almost only noticable in benchmark scores, or a very few fps more in a game.

only saw 1050 have just little bit more benchmark score than 960m, and amd 460 have bit more than 960m also

I love surfing mac forums reading topics about other laptops. THe mods should really start controlling this, this is an obvious flame inducing topic.

Why? Comparing competing products to MacBook Pros is certainly a valid topic. And as far as flame inducing posts, please. Talking about the weather can turn flame inducing on the internet these days.

It is dependent on where you look. The recent drivers from Nvidia has changed this narrative.

http://www.techspot.com/review/1269-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050/

The 1050, for gaming, has a significant enough advantage, though it does use more power. The amd 460 may make a comeback when directx 12 becomes mainstream, but that won't be applicable on macOS.

But...If you are buying a Mac as a gaming machine, you are making a mistake. The difference in power between the 1050 and amd 460 will be hardly noticeable when it comes to non-gaming gpu intense work (though adobe has really optimized their programs for Nvidia recently), and with a smaller battery the Mac needs to lower power usage from the 460.

The new xps 15 has a large enough battery that there may not be a huge gap in battery life between the xps 15 and the 15in MBPtb. But the xps 15 does have the more powerful graphics card.
