Thank you O2 for fuc.king me in the ass after being a loyal customer. Thanks for promising that as a iPhone user I would get first dibbs on the 3G model.
Wa.nkers.

Just gone in to try again to order on O2 website; and they're now showing a banner which reads "Due to huge demand we're currently out of stock online"... B******s! Been trying since 8.30 this morning and still not got one!!! I give up (not that i've got much choice!)..... :(

Bollox.

Me too since 08h this morning non stop and after 30 SMS and 10failure to process my order NOTHING !!!!!! it's a scandale !!!!!!!!!

o2 retentions claims due to a technical error, not a single existing o2 customer has been able to upgrade today.

Only customers using the o2 store, coming from another network etc were successful.

He also claims the site is down but the iPhone has NOT sold out. I smell BS

what is the f'in point in having this fancy page, when i could have put all my details in the 'failover' form 6 hours ago!!!

i have just done it now and succeeded.. well according to the 'thankyou for your order' screen.. my guess is now that o2 will find yet another way to piss us all off..

Did it really work? does the order show up in an O2 Order Status page? Do you have a order reference etc?

Hmm im guessing not, as you can submit the page without even putting any information in!

Upgrades website has been updated - now it does specifically say you can do it in store:

This is under the "O2 Customers" section, not "New Customers" as previous:

"The iPhone 3G will then be available for upgrade from 11th July at 8.02am in any of our O2 high street stores. Any stores in shopping centres will open at their usual times."

This really has been a shambles by O2. After purchasing the first iPhone by queuing up outside a cold store for hours to get the phone. I was one of the apparent few that actually didn't jailbreak the phone and move it to another more competent provider.

So for my loyalty of buying the original expensive iPhone, paying an expensive contract for 7 months I am rewarded with 6 hours of pressing f5, only to find out if you are a new customer the process sailed through and was easy as pie.

Now having to wait until the 10th to pre order?? its shocking treatment by a terrible company

Conspiracy theory of the day then...

O2 had no intention of letting you upgrade from a 2G iPhone to a 3G iPhone... By doing so they loose money on you as the 3G is subsidised.

It seems like the only people that got a successful order in were new customers, not existing iPhone customers.

A college and myself have both been trying all morning, and have probably had 30 upgrade numbers between us, and neither of us completed the order.

Thumbs down for O2, wondering whether to bother with the upgrade at all now.

Pete

Well, it worked for me...

Made an order at 12:28. Got 2 emails, the first thanking me for my order, the 2nd saying my order "had been passed to the warehouse".

I hope the warehouse have lots and lots of iPhones.

Anyway fingers crossed I'll be getting one soonish.

edit: And yes, I'm a totally new customer to O2 - didn't even bother porting my number - so maybe the problems were for existing customers.

Most of the problems people have been having are with the upgrade system. Anyway hope you get your phone.

Today it should have been pre-order for the iPhone of 1st Gen. ONLY !!! we are the fidele customer who didn't wait 3G to buy it !!! what's the point to say that we will be the first if it wasn't true !!!!

Not surprised at all. There were like almost 10 webpages to go past to upgrade to Iphone 3G successfully. I got past 9 and failed at the last hurdle.

I think O2 may try to pay attention to sign up new customers first and hence this tactic of claiming the Iphone 3G is sold out.

They did find a way - I just spoke to someone after having my failover order accepted and they agreed that this page was an oversight as the ones now receiving that message are surplus after the stock was gone!!! Apparently my card won't be charged £59!!! Here's hoping!

Oh well O2 are doing nothing unusual really, every consumer facing company in the world always favours new customers............. Apart from Voda it seems, who prior to the iPhone always rewarded me with the newest and greatest handset at no cost, because of my loyalty and spend!

If I were you, wait until v2 is unlocked and go to Voda!

The problem was only with existing customers, obviously as once they have you they don't give a damm !!!

I have an order ref, and printed the 'receipt'. My order shows in progress.

I haven't had an e-mail yet though.

in store upgrades

just off the phone to o2 and they will upgrade on a 1st come 1st served basis in stores on Friday...
wooo hooo

Carphone Warehouse

CW still seems to be taking orders, https://www.carphonewarehouse.com, anyone used this one? It does have a RED X and Pre-Order icon next to the iPhone after you add to the basket but is this not normal seeing as they dont actually have any in stock at the moment anyway?

Retentions have just GUARANTEED that I can pick a phone up from the store on Friday.

I have a reference number with the name of the manager I spoke to. They said any problems, give them my reference and they will authorise the sale.

Both my contracts have bills of a few hundred quit. I don't know whether I'm getting preferential treatment or what. If so, that's not really fair on everybody else.

Ring up and threaten to cancel your contracts. That's the only way I got as far as I did.

iPhone HAS sold out. No idea what the first guy I spoke to was talking about.

I've just ordered an 8gb on the £35 tariff from them without any hassle. Here's hoping they're true to their word and deliver on Friday :)

Well, I suppose the papers will be talking of O2's "frenzied" pre-order iPhone launch tomorrow.

Update: Rang my local o2. They've told me I cannot upgrade in store, under no circumstance. I've given them the reference number and they're ringing retentions to figure out why all this misinformation is being given out.

I am totally and utterly shocked beyond belief.

BTW: my housemate works for News International. I'm gonna make sure the reporters are aware, of this complete load of bollox and not print some huge success story tomorrow.

Nice one, let me know how this turns out.

Although I'm a new customer, my parents are currently on o2 and will want to upgrade, so I need to know the best way of going about it.

Cheers

The front page of the O2 iPhone page

Just walked in to an O2 store and they said I definitely can upgrade on Friday in store.

I managed to get one of the failover submissions in. I'm not holding out much hope of getting one at launch though :(
