ok, i'm in the uk, and i'm actually going on holiday on the 11th of july and will be back on the 25th. i wasn't planning on going to get an iphone on launch day anyway, but when o2 say things like 'first come, first served', are they really gonna run out of iphones? are is is just a attempt to cause abit of media frenzy?

o2 Bolt Ons

If you have a contract with o2 and have more than six hundred minutes a month they give you a fre treat, like unlimited texts or an extra 200 minutes etc. Now with the iphone you have to pay an extra £7.50 for this. Do you think you could argue that ths comes under o2's fair deal policy of those who upgrade to the new iphone. O2 upgrade line quotes, that they try to give existing cutomers someting extra when they upgrade like a little treat. I used to get extra text messages...will we get anything this time????

I wouldnt worry, Im sure theyll have more stock in 2 weeks time

(hehe one less competition!)

Just called my local O2 store and they insist I have to upgrade (from Iphone to Iphone 3G) online!

And the 16 GB is gone now... =(

Wonder if it's still worth the wait and frustration!

I really wish they hadn't bothered with this online pre-order crap. I was happier knowing I could just go into the shop on Friday.

Round and round in circles.

This really hits new depths of corporate incompetence.

I hate you O2.

No 16 gb??

I managed to get on to the shop and now there is no 16GB version anymore.
:(

Edit: Well there is... but you cannot select them.

all this frustration reminds me of trying to get tickets to reading festival! In the end i got my tickets and i have now ordered my iphone. :D

all i can say is if there is a will there is a way, and if your not successful online just queue up on friday.

For those who are upgrading from Iphone to Iphone 3G, anyone on the phone selection screen? Is the 16Gb version still available?

Coz if it isn't then I think I will just go do something more worthwhile and wait till later!

Something equally as frakin ridiculous is when I finally got to the payment page this time..... they asked me for an ISSUE NUMBER!!!!! Issue numbers were phased out on new Switch/Maestro cards 2 whole years ago!!!!

I just phoned my bank to see if I could get an issue number from my records but they said it couldn't be done. I am SLIGHTLY urined off!!

That should be a fun one to watch. What grounds will you be suing them on?

Maybe if they fail to let you successfully upgrade before their 11th October deadline then you may have something to complain about but insufficient resources to process the requests in the first 2 hours is not a reason for complaint.

As others have said, the O2 Upgrade FAQ page now says

You can upgrade to iPhone 3G online, in one of our high street stores or by calling one of our upgrade advisors.

This is good news - Must remember to set my alarm early on Friday :D

*Furious*

This time I got as far as clicking 'go to next stage' after selecting my phone and tariff.

Anyone think of buying a few more servers?

I give up, got through to the selection stage about 5 times now but it keeps having one error when opening which means i cant select anything and now people are saying the 16GB is gone and I was gonna get one of them so now what the hell do i do?

O2 really manage to screw things up royally sometimes

just tried again got the text message and now it seems down again. For Mucks sake I'd be off to vodafone in a harts beat now if only they sold iPhones. Why Mr Jobs did you give 02 an exclusive contract.

You are wrong. I am talking about upgrading from the original Iphone, not upgrading from other contracts.

Think buying in store on Friday will be similar?

O2: Hi there, how can I help.

Me: I'd like to upgrade my iPhone to a 16GB 3G one.

O2: What size would you like?

Me: Eh, 16GB.

O2: Ok, I'll just check you're eligible......Ok good, you are.

Me: Great.

O2: Can you just answer some questions for me so I can check you're eligible?

Me: Eh, ok.

....

O2: Ok, paying by card?

Me: Hands over card.

O2: Hi, how can I help you today?

AHHRHGGHGGG!!!!!!

has anyone tried the "failover" page.. and succeeded??

really dont know what to do!!
i go on holiday on friday, if i order on here, i have no idea if it will arrive on friday, or later when im gone!!
