I fail to see how this is a "benefit" to the customer given that the condition is that you sign a further 18 month contract, effectively guaranteeing a 27mth contract for them.

They're not required to let you out of your contract early. It would be easy for them to simply go "yeah, you can upgrade, but you'll have another 18 months on top", but they're not doing. That's the benefit...twisted as it seems/

How much do you want to bet that their exclusivity deal expires before this 18month period is over? I suspect it will expire this November (1 year anniversary) and therefore O2 are guaranteeing that they'll have you locked in for a 9 months longer than you would otherwise do (since they're the most expensive mobile provider in the UK, you'd definitely go elsewhere if there was actual competition for iPhone consumers...)

Wouldn't be at all surprised if you were right there. However, I wouldn't go anywhere else...why would you? Most expensive? I disagree.

You clearly have far too much money and live in the 1 square hectare of the country that they actually have EDGE coverage for... I love my iPhone but the provider (O2) is overpriced rubbish.

EDGE coverage seems to be highly dependent on your actual city. Here in Leeds I get EDGE inside in the suburbs without a problem, at uni in Newcastle I barely get it outside in town. But yes, EDGE coverage is lame.

Ordered - No Problems....

I got my text at 08:15, jumped straight on to O2, after remembering what my username was(!) I clicked straight through, and ordered my iPhone 3G. No waiting, no hanging. I've had my confirmation emails too.
Roll on Friday!

:D What a joke!!! :D

As if they didn't expect an overload, I mean it's not if they just had 24H to prepare for this!

Don't understand once i complete my phone number they sne dme an SMS then enter the number and it send me to an order form than once paying...it send me to another form with the same thing with complete different design !!! REALLY WIRED

Site is back - ordered - got my order number - just waiting for the email...

Interestingly, they;'ve only managed to process 100 upgrade orders in the past 5 mins... thats pretty low..

Not working for me, got as far as entering the upgrade number, then it crashed IE :D :D :D

Site is working for me but is very very slow. Just did the card details part, seems ok so far...

Just talked to o2. Existing customers can do it in the store so no need for this pre-order wait around for DHL crap. I'm just gonna go to the nearest o2 store.

Got through to the page where you tell them address to send your iPhone to and then i closed safari by mistake! grrrrr then went through again and the damn page didnt load fully so it was asking me to tell it which phone i wanted with no buttons to click on!

After entering credit card details, it just goes to the same page again. Do I enter again. This is nonsense.

PUT ALL MY DETAILS, CHOOSE A PHONE, CHOOS A PRICE PLAN, CHOOSE ADDRESS, PUT MY CC DETAILS THEN CLICK CONFIRM and IT SEND ME TO ANOTHER FORM !!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:

No 16GB no sale! Hopefully they'll let us know if they'll be available in the shops. My guess is there won't be any and I'll be waiting a bit longer.:mad:

What happened to all those extra Canadian phones :)

Ordered... I think?

They texted me a code... I got the order form, filled it in... but the order form didn't ask me for my upgrade code.

So I'm not sure what happened. No e-mail response yet.

Confused.

The Upgrade Process

I've never seen a more badly designed upgrade process.

Start screan says:

3 steps:
1> Create package
2> Additional extras
3> Checkout

So you enter your number to get an upgrade code (is that create package?), it then takes you to a page that has everything in one page, including credit card and options, and name, and nowhere to actually input your upgrade code (Is this (is this Additional extras?). Once you do that, you're conveniently taken back to screen one where you can request another upgrade code and keep following this process over and over to your heart's content.

Is today April the 1st?

This is good news. I've been trying all morning and I can't get the websites to work. Once I got as far as the upgrade code but useless. I'm going to the O2 shop again at lunch (I think it's stopped raining now!) and see if they know anything new from when I went on Saturday.

But do you think the shop is a risky move? Maybe O2 had no clue of demand (similar to when they dropped the price of the original by £100!).

Managed to get the code text to me - but the webpage has all the data fields but no text next to them so you've no idea what to put in each box. This is hopeless!
