Just ordered a 16GB iPhone through the Carphone Warehouse. Received an order confirmation email, then an out of stock email as others have described. Rang a very helpful women who said that this was normal as it is a pre-order (as it will not be delivered tomorrow). She appeared to be confident that customers who manage to get a transaction number should expect their iPhone to be overnight shipped for Friday.

10 for me !

Are you having the same problem as me?

I enter my phone number - get text a validation code but then sit looking at a screen with nowhere for me to enter my 'validation code' and a message saying: "after you enter your upgrade code there are just three easy steps"

I WOULD LOVE TO CONTINUE WITH THE THREE EASY STEPS IF YOU'D LET ME ENTER MY P***ING VALIDATION CODE!!!

am i alone in this problem???

I hope to God this is true, thanks for passing it on.

Just got my email.

Unsure if that is a stock email because we are preordering, will give them a ring. I think I will have to bite the bullet and wait out the surge, no way do I want to be seen waiting in line 6 am.

Seriously they must have had very few available online.

Just rang, they defo have 0 stock for Friday. I asked him if I could cancel the order and he claimed it will be automatically cancelled. I asked him twice, although the email says they'll try to send again later.

Some Maestro cards still have issue numbers (mine does). If it doesn't, you just put your valid from date in.

Some older Switch/Maestro cards do indeed have Issue numbers but the newer ones do not. I entered the Valid/Expiry dates. I even completed the form about 8 times with different issue numbers, guessing what it would be in theory taking into account my last card with an issue number!!!! I also called 02 and the Bank and there is nothing either of them can do at this time. 02 were/are 'supposed' to offer an option for all the customers with new cards but it hasn't been implemented.

It cannot be said that I haven't tried!! I have been fighting since 8:30am!! :p

total *****

been trying since 8.10 this morning 15 odd texts, once got to order screen having put in upgrade text but failed.

currently getting the failover page which also does not work - farce

How come everyone is blaming O2 and Apple isn't getting any of the blame. If Apple wanted to take care of their customers they would only be launching in countries already with the original iPhone in order to ensure plentiful supply for people who want to upgrade. It seems to me they are worried about people not wanting to upgrade once the 2.0 software comes out as most of the benefits of the new phone are in the 2.0 software. With free wifi becoming more and more available is 3G really much of an upgrade?

It appears CPW staff are giving conflicting advice...

and gps, and more capacity for some people. And its not apples fault that O2 servers cant handle the traffic... maybe we should blame apple for not lending O2 1000 XServes...

It seems from what I can tell as the system is using XMLHTTPRequest to contact their servers if the process timesout after a fixed amount of time then loads in the HTML for the basic form. That's why it goes from the normal order process to half way though and then to a diffrent form.

Apple could have easily allowed you to select the carrier and order through the apple store on their website couldn't they? for such an advanced company this seems pretty simple to me.

Don't know if it's much help, but I called O2, spoke to a guy who told me they actually have plenty of 16gb blacks left, but it's just the site that's showing no stock, and that if you check back between 2pm and 3pm it should show as in stock, he said the site is being worked on to get everything up and running. The only reason they are doing pre-orders is to relieve some stress on the stores come friday...he also told me the online ordering system does not affect how many iPhones are going to be in store on friday.

this is a farce

they are still sending me codes, allowing me to pick the 16GB only to sendme no where or back to the start. we can safely assume that there are no more available online.

Why oh why didn't they just let people who freaking well expressed an interest to order one?

Incidentally carphone warehouse would appear to not know their arse from their elbow, which is pretty pants really. Will wait and see if they have one in store on Friday.

nope, me too.

oh and the link that works is

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/07/07/o2_apple_3g_iphone_upgrade/

Good news: I got an error message instead of the loop of death!

Just went through the ordering process again (just for fun) and ended up on a branded error page at the end.

It's a sad day when something like this is reassuring that the site is starting to work.

I called them after getting my transaction number and was told the same - will be bit annoyed if dont get it on Friday but at least in the que.

I've given up for the time being. Could anyone confirm the upgrade process... when it works? I got the impression I didn't need to re-enter any bank details etc.

Enter mobile number > sent upgrade code > enter code >

Could anyone clarify?

haha,

i guess i was one of the lucky ones this morning, got the 16GB first try, but they are only in black...... weird that. anyone know a reason why?

Right off the phone now and clearly they don't know a thing. I was told they don't deliver on a Friday, so expect it on Monday/Tuesday. I then pointed out the website says delivery on the 11th, to which he suddenly changed his tune and said it will be delivered on Friday.

Have you cancelled your pre-order then? A previous rep told me it would be automatically cancelled! (blatant lie).

O2 stock

If you read the "The Registry" new article ( i hope the mass media pick up on this to really give O2 a kick up the arse) it says their reporter spoke to O2 who said that everytime someone signed up for an interest in the new iphone they ordered a new one, so how the hell has it come to this O2??

It seems they (O2) have gone into hiding!

Anyway, im not one of the "lucky" few try to get hold of a contract iphone, i was hoping for PAYG, but that isnt going to happen. So im giving O2 the bird but getting a PAYG, unlocked 3g iphone from Optus in Oz. It'll cost £395 for the 8gig. Expensive i know if you look at the alleged O2 PAYG pricing leaked a few weeks ago, BUT i will say this: I was on the O2 forums today and someone has a email from O2 stating it will be XMAS for the PAYG and further down the email it also states they'll be releasing the pricing nearer that date, so i read that the old pricing they leaked is wrong and they've got the next 5 months to come up with new (possible more expensive) pricing, so maybe my £395 (including unlocking) may not be that mad!

At least a telecom company somewhere in the world is doing what their customers want and selling the PAYG iphone, its just a pity i have to get it from the other side of the world.

O2, that money could've been yours, but it seems you don't want it!

No, I will let it be until either O2 online works, or they don't have it on Friday AM, might be able to just get one in store with minimal fuss. I ordered one to go to the CPW store so maybe I will just get lucky?

Really peeved as I have been in the library all morning, and their wifi has been down so I have just been working, thinking O2 are usually pretty good at all this, I expressed an interest, I am an O2 customer, will be easy...
