I can't believe there haven't been any posts on this for two weeks.

Last week's episode was pretty good, and so was tonight's... the fleet now knows that Sharon is alive, and they are PISSED.

And so is Roslin, now that Billy has been killed because of Adama's strategy to release the hostages without sacrificing Sharon. (Yeah, SPOILERS! You were warned. ;) )

This has got to be one of the best shows on TV. It's amazing in production and acting quality. The story lines are amazing. My wife is never into scifi, but she happened to watch one episode with me. She made the comment... this is more like a drama than a scifi show. That's what makes it great. Throw some scifi into the middle of a well acted drama.

I kinda hoped Billy was a Cylon. I'm not sure how they would have known after he died. That would have been cool because he sacrificed himself to save the gal.

I can't believe Billy was killed -_- so horrible that it happened *cries* i loved billy, my favorite character.
I have a lot of respect for the creators of the show, since they are SO willing to kill off secondary characters... it's totally unrealistic to expect that everyone will survive to the end of the series. Starbuck's toast in the previous episode (to all of the pilots who'd fallen to the Cylons) included names like Jolly and Hotdog, pilots you'd think would stick around longer.

The reality, of course, is that the pilots are the ones whose mortality rate SHOULD be the highest... and it is. Whoever made the point that they probably wouldn't live to see Earth was probably right.

Only about 4 more episodes left in the season. :(

However Billy wasn't really a secondary character. But still i do like that characters do die. But i just loved Billy

Yeah, I was kinda half-expecting them to show a group of Number Six and Sharon models talking to a Billy model. That wouldn't have made sense, though... surely if Billy were a Cylon, he'd've killed Roslin a long time ago to foment instability in the fleet.

Kinda shocked myself at Billy's demise! Just when he seem to have discovered some "balls" this episode. He went out well defending the woman he loved, but to have that same women throw his affections back at him earlier in the episode... well, I felt sorry for the poor guy.

I think this will build up some distance between Adama and Roslin now.

I was expecting Dee to distance herself from Apollo possibly due to guilt over the whole Apollo thing, but apparently not. And Starbuck in the background in the last scene - was her look due to guilt, or jealousy seeing as they had a "nearly but not quite" moment in the last episode?

Yeah, the new love triangle will be Apollo/Starbuck/Dee. Not sure which of Starbuck or Dee I find hotter. ;)

BTW, for those of you who suddenly find yourselves, as I did, with the new Universal HD channel (which they're using for extra Olympics coverage), they're showing the episode Home (where they use the Arrow of Whoever on Kobol to find out where Earth is) tonight at 11 PM ET in high-definition. Check it out!

Bah, we're still waiting for Sky to roll out the HD service. They've got the channels up and running, just haven't got the digiboxes to go to us who want the tech!
It'd be sweet to see BSG in glorious HD....

Possible Huge Spoiler If You Have Not Seen Ep

OK here is my question. What is the rank structure in the colonial fleet? Adama was a commander in charge of a battlestar however his XO Tigh was a Colonel and his son Lee was a Captain? I thought that it might be because of the two different branchs of the military on board and that Lee and Tigh were actually Marines but then this last episode Lee gets promoted from Major to Commander? Anyone have any insight????

Yeah, I was wondering that too.
So far, just from the Adamas, I've seen the ranking go

Admiral
Commander
Major
Captain
Lieutenant

I think that Colonel would go between Major and Commander, judging from Colonel Tigh.

The former XO of the Pegasus was Colonel Fisk, so the order is:

Admiral
Commander
Colonel
Major
Captain
Lieutenant

So Lee Adama got jumped straight past Colonel to Commander.

I think we can chalk up this hash of rank ordering to the original series' creators, who couldn't seem to make up their mind what branch of the military they wanted to model the Colonial Fleet after. (US Navy order is basically: Admiral, Commodore [1 star admiral], Captain, Commander, Lieutenant Commander, Lieutenant, Lieutenant JG. Air Force and Army order is basically: General, Colonel, Lieutenant Colonel, Major, Captain, 1st Lieutenant, 2nd Lieutenant.)

Ok, I watched that show once on friday, and it didn't seem very good.

And what the h*** is Fracking?. How can they actually say that seriously, does that supposed to mean "****ing" (excuse my language).

"What the frac are you doing"

"Stop fraccing up"

sorry, but that is what makes that show even more horrible. I am never going to *fracking* watch it again.

Yes, "frakking"/"fracking" means exactly what you think it means. As soon as BSG moves to HBO, they'll consider using the ACTUAL word. (This is no different than "gorram" in Firefly, BTW.)

I think you're getting hung up on a little linguistic substitution intended primarily to allow the show to be a bit more adult-oriented without crossing the line of what's acceptable on basic cable. The new BSG is about 1,000 times better than that old campy series that debuted back in the 70s.

Fracking sounds like some looser PC nerd talk

Not trying to Nit Pick but actually the rank of commodore no longer exists in the US Navy.====>Link

They are now considered Rear Admiral (Lower Half) 1 star/ then moving up you would have Rear Admiral (2 star), Vice Admiral (3 star) then Admiral (4 star). In times of war you will also have a 5 star fleet admiral. All of this overseen by a civilian secretary of the navy.

Makes you wonder how big a jump in pay Admiral Adama got???

Just saw the episode last night - didn't see that coming - Commander Adama!
Still, Apollo acquitted himself admirably (no pun intended!) after the mess the former CO got the Beast into. Still, I wonder how long Pegasus will be around for, or are they going to keep it as a two battlestar fleet in the plot?

I've got to wonder if Tigh is a little bit pissed. I would have thought (rank wise) he would have been the obvious choice as a new commander rather than a quickly promoted Captain-Major-Commander.

The Dee-Apollo-Starbuck triangle seems to continue....

And Baltar making his play for control.... I don't think the season finale is destined to be a happy one. How may episodes are left?

:EDIT: Just answered my own question... 3 episodes left with the final half of the two parter being 90 min (unless they're just showing parts 1& 2 back to back)! Series 3 starting to film in April. Woohoo!

No way, Tigh doesn't want that job! Commander of the Pegasus has an expected life span of what, 3 episodes tops? Lee is DOOOOOOOOOMED!

That's like getting promoted in the Empire. You don't want to be a direct report to Vader, you don't want to be commander of the Pegasus.

But seriously, I think we saw that Tigh isn't really the guy when he had command of the Galactica. Just because your next in line doesn't mean you should be promoted, sometimes a person reaches the limits of their abilities and talents. Pushing them to the next level just makes them an incompent X even if they make a fantastic X-1.

Best episode in weeks.

Forgot about the life span! Psycho, black-marketeer and chip-on shoulder-not-ready-for-the-big-leagues...... you have got to worry about being the Beasts CO!
I totally get that Tigh is not the man for the job, and as little was made of it I'm thinking that he knows that he's not CO material.
It'll be interesting when Lee comes back aboard the Galactica and is a higher ranking officer than Tigh... will he salute? Doubt it!

Freakin' SWEET episode tonight... things just got a LOT more interesting:

The redownloaded Number Six ("Caprica Six", Baltar's lover) and Boomer/Sharon (who shot Adama and was killed by Cally) are both considered dangerous by the Cylon establishment because their involvement with humans (vis a vis love) has corrupted them and made them question what the Cylons are doing to humanity. They're now going to start a "revolution" against the establishment, and they gave inadvertantly made an alliance with the human resistance on Caprica (Starbuck's squeeze was trapped with them briefly and they freed him... he won't forget that).

Galactica Sharon had her baby prematurely. Rather than allow her to raise the child, named Hera, Roslin and Admiral Adama hatched a plan (with Doc Cottle's help) to fake the child's death so that they could place the child anonymously with a woman they trust to raise her without Cylon knowledge. Baltar's delusion of Six is PISSED and wants revenge... that nuke that Baltar gave to a real Six a few episodes ago could be a problem now.

Next week the two-part season finale begins... the Fleet finds a planet that's habitable by humans, but it ain't Earth. This is going to cause problems... sounds like some of the Fleet will want to quit running from the Cylons and settle this new world.

Nah...they're going to find a fully staffed gambling casino, complete with an all-girl singing group. With two mouths for each girl! But stay out of the elevators...there's a dark secret waiting for you if you miss the stop for your lodgings.

But seriously, an awesome episode. Hera? Cast down the river like Moses. Number 3, let my people go!

This is the first episode where I found myself rooting for the Cylons (hooray for Caprica Six and Tyrol's Sharon) and rooting against the Colonial Fleet (boo hiss for stealing the baby, even if it does make sense strategically).

I've found the last couple of episodes to be uneven and mostly predictable, but "Downloaded" just knocked my socks off. Wow.
