I'm torn right now on the eternal "Buy now or wait?" question. I want to buy an iPad this weekend. But will Apple update them in September with the iPod line? Or will the follow the typical yearly update cycle of the iPod/iPhone, meaning I'll have until April before my iPad is the "old model?"

I really want one badly now, but I don't want buyer's remorse in September. :(

WAIT...
There will be a speed bump and some other novelty for sure.

iPhone 5

new HW platform... antenna and.... LTE? as I say in another forum, an 'ecumenical' Jesus Phone is a good thing, and a LTE compatible can be used to jump on Verizon and TMobile without issue next year.

While I already have an iPhone 4, something I'd like to see in the new iPod Touch is everything the iPhone has minus the phone/3G equipment. So add in a compass, gyroscope, same case, etc. Anyone else feel like phone functionality is a big enough differentiator?

For the iPad, I wouldn't like to see a smaller one. I see a smaller one cannibalizing iPod Touch & regular iPad sales. However, if Apple makes it & people want it, I don't really care. As long as people get they want & need.

That iPhone rumor ore is r-tarted y would release a new iPhone so early they would be screwing over all the current iPhone users unless they give us a discount of som sort I would just be pissed. Like this antenna problem apple didn't have to give people cases but they did . It's a rash statement but I stick to it. So let's wait till then and we will see some new rumors and then we will see what actualy happens.

Look at all the Android phones. They are refreshed daily it seems like. The iPhone and Apple are the only ones that don't do refreshes more than once a year.
That's not really a fair thing to say. iOS is only on one device. If Apple wanted to license iOS to different manufacturers, that'd be one thing. However, Apple is primarily a hardware manufacturer. There's no reason for them to pop out a different iPhone every month.

I dont believe anything about the iPods, those touch-screens would be way to small I could see the iPhone 5 coming early just to address signal and possibly Verizon, but honestly, what else can they add (Physically)?

Wow. That would be a huge middle finger to the people who just bought an iPhone. I know technology evolves quickly, but 6 months?! That's just ridiculous.

Not really... iPhone 4 is flawed (fact) and the well informed public knows this. Apple will resolve the issue somehow other than offering a free bumper. If you foolishly purchased an iPhone 4 then you have no one to blame, but yourself. Apple will do what it has to do to keep their image intact.

Unlikely to happen. Right now the line up fills every price range.

Well crap, I guess that means my iP4 will begin to suck in January.

A touchscreen iPod shuffle? Why?

Oh noooooos they are on different release cycles, iPhone 4 is going to be obsolete! The horrors! =p

Now that is a lot of stuff going on. I'd be surprised to see a new iPhone though, unless it's on verizon. Looking forward to all these new devices though

I don't know about a new iPhone, but the "iPad" rumor I could see happening.

All the people complaining about a smaller iPad coming out, would it make you feel better if they called it an iPod Touch instead, just a little bigger? It just seems like Apple is going to have to do something. The want FaceTime on as many devices as possible. Furthermore, iOS 4.0 as we know it today will not likely run well on the iPad due to lack of RAM. Heck, the new iPod is set to have more RAM than the iPad. So, what to do?

They can't go back in time and place a FF camera and more RAM on the iPad. They could put out version 2, but that would have current iPad owner crying rivers. One solution would be to make a whole new device and just call it an iPod Touch.

Always looking for a handout. Hey dude, you made a BAD decision and bought a RevA from Apple. And now you want a handout because of a mistake you made? Steve doesn't care if you're pissed, he already has your money for 2 years.

It'd be interesting if Apple did release an iPhone for Verizon in January to say the least. What might make sense is if they adopt a new bi-annual release schedule that looks like this...

Jan 2011: CDMA iPhone "4.5" (small upgrades from iPhone 4)
June 2011: GSM iPhone 5
Jan 2012: CDMA (+LTE 4G?) iPhone 5.5
June 2012: GSM (+LTE 4G?) iPhone 6
... etc.

This would make some sense. For one, Verizon is ahead of AT&T on LTE rollout. This would allow AT&T a little more time to roll their LTE network out to more markets.

This is not exactly fair. Many people (especially us on this website) purchased their iP4 before the antenna issue arose. Is it really "foolish" of us to buy the new iP4? However, I ado agree that it would be "foolish" for all the people who bought defective iPhones after the antenna issue had been established.

Hey dude, you made a BAD decision and bought a RevA from Apple.

Aren't all iPhones considered Rev A products? They change every year, don't they. Should we never buy an iPhone then?

ipod- definitely time for upgrading, drop the spinning hd classic (160 gig terrible to access specific music fairly quickly), rear camera on new ipod touch and up to 128gig?

ipad- perfect form factor, usb, camera, 128 gig?

iphone- no iphone 5, cdma model for the HUGE far eastern market!

The 7" iPad (if it's even real) would be a defensive measure against all the Android tablets of that size. It provides nothing of value except that it would have to be cheaper than the 10" iPad; therefore, people would buy it (instead of 7" Android tablets).

Frankly, the bigger market that Apple will eventually address is the 14" tablet which (if my calculations are correct) will display 8.5" x 11". AFAIC, the bigger, the better as it becomes much more useful without having to do that stupid reverse-pinch. (I own an iPad and, once a larger one is available, my current iPad goes up on eBay.)

It would make no sense at all.
Having a new version of the same phone every 6 months would alienate most customers.
The only way they could do this in an acceptable way would be to have parallel versions, iphone and Igodknowswhat. Then maybe customers would accept something new every 6 months.

It would be lame if they released a new iPhone 6 months in. I wouldn't be surprised if there was a class action suit (the norm these days) if people end up doing a side by side comparison and the "death grip"/antenna issue doesn't show up on new phones.

Knowing Jobs, he'll throw a press conference spinning it into how Apple has solved the universal antenna issue that affects all cell phones and will be sharing it with the other cell phone manufacturers. :p

...

Apple will probably release a iPhone 5 on version just to piss off AT&T since AT&T made them look like idiots by canning unlimited data a month after the iPad release

I agree but I might like the smaller 7" iPad better. I never can see myself carrying the iPhone, MBA and iPad.

I'm going to cop that new iPad mini as well as the touch screen shuffle, the iPhone nano, and the apple plasma television. Plus all the other imagined products that never come to pass because they are completely dumb ideas.

If all of these things are true I would feel bad for Apple. The 7 inch iPad is the only one I could see working, to compete with smaller, and presumably cheaper, Andriod tablets due to hit the market later this year. That said, I think it would either be WiFi only or WiFi + 3g (not an option of either/or) because that would bring the number of options to 9 - still a lot. 12 is absurd.

There will be new iPod's this September, but I think Apple needs to simplify, not expand. Let go of the iPod Classic by bringing in 64/128gb iPod Touchs and perhaps leave the 32gb version to up-sell potential Nano customers.

A new iPhone in January would be bad press. Antennagate has been resolved so its time to move on. You;ve taken the hit, so don't make iP4 buyer's regret their purchase even more by re-releasing the 5 six months later. iP4 owners are upset since they were strung along and iP5 users are upset that there phone is a lot less valuable at WWDC six months later. Just not a good move.

...

Or maybe the iohone released in January will just be an unlocked model with a radio that will work on any carrier but with the same features as the current iPhone

If they release the iPhone 5 just fixing the antenna issue I would not care too much as I do not have that issue...if they release one with other hardware enhancement I would then be pissed to see mine not having it just 6 month later...In all cases i really doubt Apple is going to launch a new iPhone 6 months later than the previous one.
