Next-Generation iPad With 1-Megapixel Rear Camera and Case Cover Proximity Sensor?

In reality, ANY megapixel less than 8 would result in people complaining with statements like "My cell phone has 8, why Apple why!? Guess i'll have to go get an Android phone!"

My feelings exactly. The only reason Apple is even including a rear camera is so that "Facetime" can work as designed (being able to show Facetimers what the person is looking at). Seems that Apple/Jobs sees this as the only reason it's being included. The iPad as a "standalone" camera and needing a higher MP sensor is honestly stupid. They know people won't (or shouldn't) be wanting to or trying to use the iPad as a device to capture serious still images. If you want a device for that, they have an iPhone to sell you! :D
 
There is hardly any substance to this rumor. Dozens of you are getting upset about a string of text that means nothing. Maybe it required a value and a label of "1MP" doesn't solidify ANYTHING except they're building in that functionality to be available to developers.

I personally hope the thing ships with no rear facing camera. Who gives a damn? It's a tablet and not a camera. If you want to take nice pictures, go buy a Canon or Nikon.
 
I still don't see the need for a rear facing camera on the size of a device like the iPad. I can understand the front one for Skype/Facetime and is a deal breaker for the existing iPad.

1MP is a joke and I doubt they would do it.
 
Notice that it is defined in a section for "AV" (Audio/Visual), Perhaps in this video mode it is effectively shooting at 1MP.

In a Photo only mode the camera may have better specs. Such as, returning a higher resolution to the application.

For FaceTime ... so the person you're speaking to can see what you can see ... so you don't have to flip your iPad around.
 
OMG people! This is ONLY A RUMOR!

NO ONE REALLY KNOWS!

They're basing the whole things on some sting of text in beta software. 1MP makes no sense... so I highly doubt we'll see a 1MP rear camera. 5 will be the minimum.
 
This camera is for FACETIME ONLY! 1MP is more than 720P - so the rear camera on the iPad can do HD quality facetime... that seems sufficient - yes? What the hell would you EVER use a rear camera for except for when you're facetiming and switch to the other camera to show what you see. Nobody is EVER going to take a freaking picture with their iPad. I'd be surprised if there was eve a camera app on this thing. It will be facetime only.
 
I think main reason there is 1 MP camera is:
- That camera is meant for face time to show other party ( not for holding i-pad to take pictures). For facetime 1MP is good enough.
- Thin ipad. Unless ipad is thick it's can't have high MP camera.
So good conculsion is that ipad would be lot more thin (& lightweight).
 
When I consider the number of pictures I have taken with my 3GS "simply because it was with me" I can see the value of a decent camera in the iPad. And I can see the logic of using the same camera in the iPad2 that they will have in the iPhone5.

If it stays at 1 mp then I'll go for an iPhone5 and wait a bit longer for the iPad.
 
I call bull. Why would anyone these days waste their time on a 1mp camera, whether it's on the back, front, side, wherever.

It would at least have a 1.3 mp camera people. Don't be stupid.

Actually... thinking of your statement... a decoy. Knowing that every tech-head is going to rip into the beta software to looks for iPad 2 clues, they may have put it in at 1MP on purpose to throw off competitors.
 
What are you guys complaining about.

Nobody's will be taking pictures with an iPad. It just doesn't make sense. I think that the rear camera is also for facetime (so the person you're talking to can see exactly what you are seeing. That's it. What more do you want?

You guys seem to complain just for the sake of complaining. Why do you need a 5 M.P. camera? Because the iphone has it? Sounds fallacious!
 
1MP is pathetic. Sure, you're not going to replace this with a camera or phone camera but 1MP is a some kind of a sick joke. It's archaic and quite frankly useless for anything other than a crude reference shot.

The idea behind it is probably so you upgrade to ipad3 which will have a 5 mp camera or something.

All kinds of bad.
 
yes we can....complain about this ridiculous 1M pixel camera when we pay over $ / £ 600 for an electronic device.

To produce a 1M pixel camera in 2011 is ridiculous, whatever usage people will do or not do with it.


Anyway, bring it on, can't wait...
 
I'm not surprised by the 1MP camera. I'd be more inclined to take pictures with the iPhone over the iPad because its small form factor.

I'm hoping in the next 3 years we'll get 30fps 720p video over video chat via cell networks. That is something I'm waiting for. :)

All I want to see, is someone take a picture with their iPad. I will be laughing at them, regardless of the resolution.
 
Two questions Is the 1MP a regular old MP or an Apple Magic 1MP? Does it matter on Facetime if you have 1MP or 5MP I could be wrong but only the few will have bandwidth to support up to 5MP.

Agreed. I went to see my son sing with his class at daycare. People had cameras or camera phones out to record. One guy had his 7" Samsung (or whatever) tablet up and looked like a shmuck. Now... I'm not using that as an excuse for why Apple shouldn't put a better camera on the back of the iPad, but I cannot see myself using a 10" iPad to snap pictures. Next step to looking like an idiot is to bring your 15" MBP and hold it backwards to take pictures. :D
 
Who will take still pictures with an iPad? I wonder if it will shoot video at 720p like the Touch? I could care less about that too, actually. Higher res. screen is all that matters...

It's same as "+1" or "I agree". It's against the forum rules though and doesn't work at all in popular threads like this (there may be new replies before you post yours)
