The iPhone 4S measures 9.3mm in depth, so a 7.6mm thin phone would represent an 18% reduction in thickness.

It's 7.6mm thick. "Thinness" is an idea, not a measurable property... you measure it's thickness, lol. "7.6mm thin" is a marketing/PR spin -_-

I really hope the next iPhone is the same thickness and just has a larger battery.

I think that would make much more sense, the extra battery life would be a god send. I would also like it if the all in one unibody case which has been rumors is offers a bit more protection so the back/front glass does not cracked so easily when dropped.

Who cares about the back? On the list of things I look for in a phone, what the back looks like is far, far down on the list.

Exactly. First thing I'm gonna do is put a case on it anyway. I won't even see the alleged two-tone back.

You will barely notice the increase in height... it's less than a CM.

But if this new iPhone is the same width and only slightly taller.... how on Earth do people handle those monster phones from other manufacturers?

They must really have some large pockets...

Image

They must have real tiny hands to fit them in such small iPhone sized pockets. I can only imagine the tiny narrow wallet they must carry around with them as well.

2011 - "I WANT A 4" SCREEN! I WANT A 4" SCREEN ELSE I'M SWITCHING TO ANDROID!!!"

2012 - 4" iPhone rumors appear "NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ITS HORRIBLE, NOOOOOOO I DON'T WANT IT"

yeah i also said i want a bigger 4 inch screen but also wider, not like a fake chineese mobile or better to say like a tv remote control..
wow i really think it will look ugly, while 4 and 4s are the most good looking fones in the market.

i hope this is just a bad dream

I think Apple will surprise us with a completely different design.

Btw, a bit of topic, but since there is much more traffic here. This new wifi+3g feature in beta 4, how is that different från the way it worked before, running on wifi once it has signal and then switching to 3G?

This already work, right? I don't get that.

Some people have jobs and don't get to hang out in mom's basement wearing cargo pants all day.

The 4s is shirt pocket sized. Just.

Some people also have jobs and wear normal jeans and trousers, instead of hanging around Starbuck all day in skinny jeans with 3 inch pockets. If you're just able to fit an iphone in there then how on Earth do you carry a wallet?

I want to see this phone.

I've been waiting for Android to bring out a lag-free OS, and Jelly Bean is just that. I love my Nexus 7.

I have the iPhone 4S at the moment, but I'm torn between iPhone 5 and Galaxy S3 (or equivalent that comes out during xmas time). iOS5/6 feels old, and Jelly Bean is looking pretty damn...delicious.

I want Apple to impress me.

I'm in the same boat, same devices as well, except through in the Galaxy Nexus as another contender for me.

Really?!? That's your argument? That I must live in my moms basement and hangout in cargo pants? Yeah only a child in cargo pants wouldn't understand the size perfection of the iPhone.

So I take it your big boy work slacks don't have any pockets? Sorry but majority of my button down shirts don't have pockets. Not to mention it looks pretty tacky having a phone in your front shirt pocket. Maybe in your pocketless slacks, pocketed dress shirt world the iPhone fits perfect but (follow along there slowly mr angry adult working man), a phone slightly bigger in W/L isn't going to be like trying to shove an iPad in your speedo. Some people like to make this a bigger deal then it actually is.

I've said it before. I think we'll see Apple release two new iPhones. I don't think Apple will abandon the current size. I just hope that both models will have LTE. Maybe the 4S will receive nothing new except LTE but that would be fine with me. They can call it the 4GS.

They will only be releasing one new phone in September. But I would expect the 4S (and the 3GS) to stay around for a while as a cheaper models.

I think most people would like a BIGGER screen but not many wanted a LONGER screen. In normal, vertical orientation there is very little benefit.

7.6mm is impressive.

But it doesn't change the fact that this phone is too long/tall.

It's still shorter, less wide, and thinner than the competition (Galaxy S III).

Apple's walking a thin line between pleasing those who want a small phone, and those who want a big screen.

Going taller is the right choice. Wider would break too many apps.

Nope-that's still not thin enough, I'll be sticking with my Razr then-
Sad, Jobs would never approve of anything less then 5mm thin.

You do know that Mr. Jobs's last project was the iPhone 5? He had little to do with the 4S and was working on the bi-annual design refresh which is now the phone coming next month.

I put an S3 in my pocket at the store and it fit just fine.

Unless you have unusually small pockets, those large phones should fit.

Exactly... so why is everyone complaining about the iPhone getting just 1 CM taller?

Sheesh...

:d

SIII is 8.6MM
Nexus is 9.8MM
OneX is 8.9MM
Razr is 7.1MM

I'm impressed. 7.6MM is VERY thin. I played with the S3 and immediately said, "Wow, its thin."

And the razr had that ugly hump. iPhone will be 7.6 all the way through.
