Doubtful the 3GS survives this round. Perhaps you were referring to the 4?

I would expect Apple to release different sizes (prob same ratio) of phones in the future when they settle with a design that will last for 3-5 years like we see in iPad, Macbook Pros, iMacs. Looks like we are getting pretty close to that point.

But would they keep both the 4 and the 4S? I think the 3GS may be around for a while as an entry-level device until we get an "iPhone mini" or similar. It even got a minor revision in Nov '11 :)

The ipod touch is 7.2mm thick. So this new iphone is about the same width, a bit taller (about 12mm) and only 0.4mm thicker (which is nothing!)

I find the ipod touch great to hold and put in my pocket. It feels a lot thinner than the 4s. I think this iPhone 5 will be a winner!

I hope Apple get the message that for many of us, weather sealing, shock resistance, more storage/ram and longer-life batteries are all more appealing than "even thinner".

As a 3GS user, I was very keen for the next iPhone. But so far the leaks do not speak to me. Too long, too skinny, too thin.

It's starting to sound like a spatula.

SIII is 8.6MM
Nexus is 9.8MM
OneX is 8.9MM
Razr is 7.1MM

I'm impressed. 7.6MM is VERY thin. I played with the S3 and immediately said, "Wow, its thin."

Razr isn't that thin the whole way through. It tapers at the top for the camera.

As much as I like the 3GS, three years is a long time in the product cycle. I can see the 4 selling for $49 or less, which would cover the cost of the retina display, while still being a bargain for first-time smartphone buyers. I guess we'll find out on 9/12 :)

but 'they' also did not have photographs of said claims.

This year, they ahve photographs, videos and now the latest iOS6 resolution changes.

I hope everyone read this post.

People who still think this isn't the new iPhone, IT LEAKS EVERY YEAR. Last year we didn't have a physical part of a tapered iPhone, but we have it for this metal back iPhone.

There is plenty of evidence. Stop expecting something different.

Apple is stuck on thin and has lost sight on innovation. Changing the thickness is not innovation. Was hoping for a very lightweight thin phone with a 4.5" screen like the HTC or Samsung SIII. Apples hardware is stagnant and if not for the Apple IOS, I would have bailed on them awhile ago.

Just wait until Samsung sues for making the screen larger and the phone thinner :eek::rolleyes: They'll argue that they were just following market trends while Samsung would argue that people are mistaking the new iPhone for Samsung phones despite the gigantic Apple logo on the back.

What goes around comes around. Doesn't matter if Samsung or Apple wins the patent case. iOS is dying and this is just its death rattle.

It's also not innovation if its "like the HTC or Samsung SIII"! I would hardly call Apples hardware as stagnant. Each year it is improved in multiple ways, just like other companies.

It will be interesting see the new screen. This has not changed since the iphone 4. Hopefully it will be even nicer!

You should get the S3, the 0.5 paper thing plastic back cover blows away in the wind. As for innovation, stuffing a new cpu and bigger screen every update is far from innovation. I been doing that with my PC's for over a decade. They should get the UI fixed

Android 4.0+ UI is fine... The ActionBar is a very nice design pattern. Not a fan of Samsung's customization, but even then, the Holo theme must be available to every device from ICS on so it doesn't affect apps.

How has the iPhone home screen changed since iOS 1? Wallpapers.

I wish they would round it off like the iPod touch though. I know it's probably not possible with all the components that have to be stuffed inside.

So it will be longer, thinner and harder to hold?

I don't know if it can get any harder to hold than the iPhone 4/4S. Looks great, but feels terrible in the hand. IMO.

? I think the people that are disappointed with this rumored design is because Apple are not making the screen wider like samsung and others. The shape will be look longer and narrower and slimmer, not wider and taller. So your sarcasm misses the point.

the s2 cover is the same as the s3. i have the s2 and my 4 year old dropped it on the sidewalk 3 times and my phone is in mint condition. do that with your glassback and see what you get. also whats wrong with the UI. for me android UI is better even with touchwiz. ps im running jelly bean cm10

True. I find the ipod really comfortable to hold, even though its thin, and yes I think it is because of the rounded on the edges.

If you look closely, the edges are rounded on the new iPhone. The band rounds flush into the back. And most likely the front as well.

The point is they're making the screen bigger and the aspect ratio wider. Current Android phones have a wider aspect ratio than the iPhone:

960/640 (iPhone) = 1.5
800/480 (WVGA, most mid-range Android phones and Windows Mobile phones) = 1.67
1280/720 (720p, Galaxy Nexus et al) = 1.78
1136/640 (Rumored iPhone 5) = 1.78

The first Android phones also had a 1.5 aspect ratio but WVGA soon became the standard. Apple just stuck with 480x320 and moved to the Retina Display only when WVGA Android phones became commonplace. More widescreen resolutions have been the trend for years, and Apple is just now following up.

Longer is certainly nice, but ribbed would be even better.

:eek::eek:;)

I am very excited for this iPhone. Although there is a lot of hate, I feel as though this will be a revolutionary phone. The design looks modern and up to date, and still has a 4/4S feel.

I will be purchasing on day one for sure.

Nothing about this phone is revolutionary from what we know. This is an evolutionary step.
