Shock horror! The New iPhone has a round home button! Like every other iDevice ever made! And It comes in both black and white!!! I bet it also has a lock button, and although i won't bet on it, i expect it will have a screen too!!!

Seriously, although Apple part leaks are vew and far between, i don't really think it's front-page-worthy. Not at least for something this insignificant.

Can't wait for the announcement of a new phone. Just imagine: Tim Cook on the scene presenting "revolutionary new button"!

Don't joke. This button is the iPhone 5.

How do you use it? Obviously immersible, holographic siri integration.

i cannot even put my hate for that little annoying thing in words, it needs to gooooo. broke on THREE iPhone 4 i owned. seems to work fine on my 4S so far, but its still annoying and waste of space

i hoped they would make it glow as an notification indicator :(

You can make the light on the front of the iPhone flash as an alternative.

What phones have you used? I have owned an android phone for several months, and never accidentally hit them even once. I think they work fine, and have also never seen any performance issues as you describe.

Don't know about Macapotamous, but his description is accurate for the Thunderbolt I have from work. (Which is also a perfect example of why you should *want* a bezel around a phone's screen. The bloody thing is hard to hold without some part of your finger/hand grazing against the edge of the display unnoticed, until the screen is suddenly unresponsive because it's 'focused' on the other, unintentional touch.)

Well, I will echo the sentiment of a few other posts here that even though this is small news, I hope this means they are using a better quality button. At least on the iphone 4 the button frikkin wears out too easy (had to replace my first one which started showing issues just a few months in).

The problem with the home button is that it has always been the weakest link in the iphone. Of every iphone I have ever had, the Home button has always been the reason I have needed to take the iphone in for repair, typically just due to use. I've had to get phone replacements due to the home button either not working, or double clicking when I single click (drives me MAD). With the amount of extra features they keep adding to the button, I really don't have a lot of faith in its future unless they change it somehow.

This is good. I was worried for a bit. :) I`m sure Apple will come up with a name nobody has guessed before like they always do anyway. So whatever we call it is just an identification for the upcoming iPhone.

haha... the worrying is much appreciated. i wonder if they'll simplify it like with iPad, and just call it the new iPhone.

----------

it's not the iPhone 5. it's gonna be called the iPhone 4GS

i think you mean iPhone 4SJ. the revolutionary new feature will be a holographic projector, integrated into the headphone jack. Siri will be replaced with a Steve Jobs hologram, similar to Tupac. and he will answer your questions barely, if at all.

User: "Steve, will I need an umbrella today?"
SJ-hologram: "Umbrellas are obsolete."

User: "Steve, play songs by Tool."
SJ-hologram: "No. Here's some coldplay."

I'm very confused, I've stared at length at my current iPhone 4s button and then at the one you picture and then back at mine....and then at my better halves iPhone 4 button and then back at your photos...etc. I can not see a single difference. I have a grey square in the centre of a white circle. Am I missing something? I have in my defence always been terrible at spot the difference!

It's not nearly as good news to me that there are rumors about new home iPhone buttons as it is that there's a site called Apple Bitch.

im sorry, my eye must be playing tricks on me but how is the square different from prevous iphones? it looks like the same square i always seen.

The square logo in the center is not what is being referred to. It's the rounded, rectangular shape that the circular home button is sitting on top of. All other home buttons have been just round. It's basically the same button but the mounting for it (under the glass) is different.

Why is it for iPhone? How about iPod or iPad? I'm still betting for an october iPhone 5 release, not june.

the way the button is it looks like it will be used for directional use also? maybe gaming

This is HUGE !
