The problem with this functionality is that I’m never, ever going to put my iPad glass-face-down (especially on any hard surface) so I can charge something on its back.

This only makes sense if it's MacBook style Magsafe alongside a regular USB C port.

Who would want to precariously balance a 13" iPad on a charging puck that does 15watts?

I'd love to see an iPad with MagSafe. You guys don't seem to have good foresight - I use my iPads in my vehicle and if it had MagSafe I would not need to use these big awful mounts. Magnetic mount and bam instant iPad infotainment system on my dash, etc. If only car makers would actually make an empty dock area where the iPad would go and allow buyers to simply BYOD and attach in that empty slot and instant infotainment console display.

„the report claims that Apple has developed iPad Pro prototypes with a larger Apple logo made of glass“
That’s correct! But do you know how big of a current layout wireless charging is on an iPhone? It takes too much space.

I personally don’t think the Apple logo is going to be gigantic. if it is, It’s going to end up looking ugly. Since the Apple logo is the Iconic Logo for the company. It might be slightly bigger, just a little bit. I really don’t know how they can fit wireless charging under an Apple Logo. Apple couldn’t implement the fingerprint scanner under the Apple Logo on an iPhone much less wireless charging on an iPad. I’m against wireless charging on an iPad. It’s useless and there is no need for it. That’s the bottom line.

What we need is the light-up Apple Logo behind the iPad. That’s much more appealing.

For me, it's touches like this that separate Apple from the competition.
Things you don't need them to do but they do it anyway because it's just nice. Sure they don't get it right every time but once the basic functionality is there, those extra touches add that, 'je ne sais quoi'.

Maybe Apple could use you know the “smart” connector to “wirelessly” charge an iPad?
It would make a lot of sense to add a Magsafe connector to the back of the Smart Keyboard Case which then connects to the smart connector on the iPad. When the keyboard case is open you could just slap the magsafe charger on the back of the case or it would set on "top" of the case when closed face down. It makes no sense to have a Magsafe connector on the back of a naked iPad, since very few people use them caseless and few would want to lay a caseless ipad face down or have it teeter on a puck on the back when face up. Also it would provide an incentive to get a Smart Keyboard case rather than a 3rd party one. Then I could use the same Magsafe puck to keep both my phone and iPad charged and wouldn't need both Lightning and USB C cables with me.

I could imagine a significantly bigger logo actually looking nice, so tastes are obviously different :) A lit-up logo would not do that much for me, as my iPad resides in a case anyway and I don’t intend to show off.

A MagSafe option on the other hand would be a welcomed addition, since Apple relocated the smart pogo pins on the back of the iPad, thus rendering the Logitech BASE useless unfortunately. With MagSafe available on the iPad, I could 3D-print a stand on my own, if necessary (when no company is willing to offer one) - did this already with a multi-charging stand for iPhone/Watch/AirPods.

And such a MagSafe part might also be able to charge e.g. AirPods, allowing the iPad to double function as Powerbank.

Therefore I do see more usefulness in MagSafe than in a lit-up logo.

Why not just use the same MagSafe charger as the Mac?
So we can have USB-C, Lightning, Apple Watch charging puck, and Magsafe 3 to charge many of your Apple devices? I mean don’t you get tired and eventually forget bringinh some of those cables when travelling? ?

I was about to say the same. The mental image is hilarious. This has to come with some sort of a dock in order to be useful for an iPad.

In which case, it *could* be useful. Imagine an iPad dock with extra peripheral connections, which you could then connect to an external monitor. And imagine if it could all run MacOS. Just imagine........

I’m putting my iPad face-down all of the time, as it’s actually in a case with a front flap. It would be no problem to attach the puck from above - no need for any balancing.

But in general I do agree that a dock would be nice - I really loved my Logitech Base on the 2nd gen iPad Pro 12.9!

This will be great for travelling. My preferred travel charger is the MagSafe Duo. Its small footprint and the fact that it can charge both my iPhone, AirPods and Apple Watch is great. If I could simply lay my iPad Pro on top of it to charge my iPad as well that would be great. All my devices have such great battery life at this point so I don't have to charge them all that often (besides the watch, I still have to charge that one every day to be sure to have it last the whole day, especially if the day will include some workouts.

It won't be any efficient. But I don't need efficiency at all times. I don't drag my iPad Pro with me when I travel, it's in the hotel room 99% of the time so my iPad could simply lay there and charge when I'm outside and I would have one less charger to bring with me when travelling.

This is the one thing that has been really annoying with Apple. Even when you are fully into their ecosystem you still have to drag along different chargers to get all your devices charged. MagSafe could be the solution to all of this if the iPad and AirPods Max would support it. And it on the back of the MacBook's while your at it as well.

Who asked for wireless charging on an iPad? Seems pretty unnecessary.
I haven't yet formally asked, but put me down as one interested in the option.

Caveat: I'm not too familiar with battery limitations/potentials. But if they could make the wireless charging experience on iPad anywhere near as convenient and effective as they have with iPhone, then why not? It really doesn't get any easier than lowering and raising your device to and from a charging puck.

That’s what the SmartConnector is on iPad Pro’s: charges and allows devices to stay connected with a little force to disconnect. I guess you missed that.

Originally I thought this to, then …
Me, I did. I asked.

wireless charging a 10"+ device does not make sense to me ...

It would make sense;
A) a desk stand - say using SmartConnector to charge iPadPro,
B) reverse Qi charging for AirPods when in your knapsack (I’ll bet iPad users can fully drain their AirPods more consistently for each use than an iPhone user would in/out their homes).

C) the holy grain is Tesla like wireless charging in an indoor space - or like Tesla incisiones an entire city electrical grid wirelessly charging small devices as people use them when walking freely.

I use Smart Keyboard's USB-C port to charge my iPad Pro, which uses the Smart Connector. But the Smart Connector is meant for keyboard-style accessories and it charges at a slower rate than built-in USB-C port. Aligning the would-be cable to the Smart Connector wouldn't be as intuitive as Mac-style MagSafe connector..

intuitive - let's us macOS/iOS/iPadOS' lookup function for a moment here - see attached.

A SmartConnector, by its very design, is meant to be intuitive, meaning you just connect the accessory without thinking about the connector itself - boom it connects, aligned, provides power. Now yes, you're right it would be BEST to have SmartConnector provide more power to accessories that fit the scope of its intended purpose and design scope. Thus far it does so - yet it could evolve to provide much more power - as is MagSafe 3 for late 2021 MBP models (MagSafe2 was mini-connector adapter or connector for the late 2015 model MBPs).

A USB-C port (without PD) has been designed with a scope to do much more than power - and with PD provides rapid charging for devices in this design scope that require longer and higher battery charging needs and have higher capacity's than most accessories for what the SmartConnector is designed (originally) for.

So for a KB, AirPods, Mouse - we don't need rapid PD for those accessories, BUT if SmartConnector evolves it then can provide PD charging rates/speeds to include charging an 11/12.9" iPad Pro would be ideal and even MORE intuitive to do so than grabbing a USB-C cable to properly align into that port (you don't do without looking at the port, most don't get USB-C connection using peripheral vision the very 1st time & can repeat direct connection, no fiddling about another 4x without directly looking at the port). SmartConnector you CAN with those devices.

Intuitive, doesn't mean providing More. iOS/iPadOS/WatchOS/TVOS ALL have always provided an "intuitive" UI, but it neither provides 'more' than the competition in what you can DO or WANT to do - it's great at providing 90%+ for most people and does for me all-day-e'eryday! But not 'more' like on AndroidOS. More doesn't always mean better and intuitive does not equal more.

Cheers.
