so they spend 2 iOS iterations making it flat to then bring 3D to the iphone....

iOS is hardly flat. there's gradients everywhere!!! and have you failed to notice the parallax? and the translucent objects? just because there isn't gloss doesn't mean it's flat.

Hah, this joke would be funny if there weren't already 3D Android phones and Nintendo 3DS...

Apple late to the party again.

They're always late to the party, but there's no denying they shake up industries.

For example, biometric authentication had been around before the iPhone, but ever since Touch ID, other companies are implimenting they're own fingerprint recognition technology (in the home button nonetheless)

I saw a 3D phone at AT&T a while back and it was extremely cool. With Apple and everyone going "flat" I can't see them going with 3D on a phone.

Good one.

Dumb rumor. Never gonna happen. Like saphire. Like liquid metal. Like flexible screen.
Waste of time junk piece of news.

I read "As many as 20 percent of the population may not be able to fully see in three dimensions, said Dr. Kenneth J. Ciuffreda, a professor of optometry at the New York's State College of Optometry."

That's too many. Apple won't do it.

See early rumors of bigger-screened iPhones for much of the same sentiment. "Abomination" and "99% don't want" transitioned to "shut up and take my money" once Apple rolled out the 6. The biggest catalyst is when Apple actually appears to be going with some rumor. As soon as "we" see that, whatever the concept happens to be becomes a very desirable, must-have.

I have an iPhone 6, I love all the new capabilities, but, I really really wish it was the size of an iPhone 4.
I'm guessing that they had to make a bigger to fit in all the components required.

As long as it is thinner, I will buy it.

I will buy anything by Apple, as long as it is thinner.

Anything.

Thinner.

I buy.

No.

Just no.

And why would 3D be acceptable given their desire to have everything remain with a flat look. I would heartily welcome back skeumorphisms before 3D on a phone.

Put 3D display on the Apple Watch so it will look like it's worth the high price tag.

Last I checked, the iPhone 6 plus does have a flexible screen:D
Though I am having some trouble getting it flat again:(

I've never really been interested in 3D. I always avoid 3D movies. It always seems like a gimmick. If they limited it to the home screen and gaming, then ok, I can maybe see that. But when Apple integrates a new technology, they tend to only do so when it can bring across the board benefits.

I really hope this isn't true, mainly because 3D just makes no sense, other than for entertainment purposes (Like on a TV..but even still effective use of it has been limited in that realm.)

The problem is that you have an interface with depth, but your input interface is still two dimensional. Unless Apple has developed some kind of magical spatial input that works in front of the phones display the 3d will just be a gimmick. Of course the problem with interacting with 3d in front of the display is that the effect would be lost with your hand obscuring the screen. So basically with current technology there is no point.

"Flatness" will someday be old and so Apple will go to the all-new photorealistic look, combined with 3D.

3D has to be adopted by Apple because everyone else will have it. 3D done right could be very interesting. And you could turn the effect down or off.

I can't wait to play 3D chess:confused:

the nintendo 3ds does this and i think its pretty cool. I hope there is an option to turn it off though if it is included.

There are people, such as me, who are adversely affected by this tech. I get headaches using a 3DS. I don't know why anyone would do such things. Now 3D in a theatre with today's technology I'm okay with. No problems, but these glasses-free screens, there's something that just bothers my brain.
