Lostprophet: as an FYI, ATT has been routinely catching people with the original (Tmo 3G) Nexus and auto-bumping them to the more expensive data plan...I'm guessing that they'll do the same on the ATT 3G Nexus One too, but that's just a guess.

Meh... I had a lot of people telling me they'd catch me using my iPhone without a data plan too. Never happened in almost a full year of usage.

But hey, if they do it's another $5 off each of my paychecks. I think I'll be okay. :D

Just moved from Portland not three months ago.

T-Mobile 3G is good and reliable, but not as fast as AT&T, their pricing and customer service though is top notch. I would also like to add, 3G on the beefed up Nexus One vs my old G1 is SO MUCH FASTER. I think the underpowered hardware on the G1 really hurt speeds.

Thanks bro. Where were you? I am in the Lake Oswego, Tualatin area.

Also remember a bit back when I was asking people for information on how bad the touch buttons are on the Nexus? Well I found a youtube video that showcases it very very well: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ryByZuXihV0

It's not too bad actually, I could see it being a minor annoyance for a while (before I get used to it). It's not TERRIBLE, it's not even BAD, just a bit off. The guy making the video seems too intent on pushing them rather than hovering his finger on them which would probably help. Would be better if it wasn't like that though (of course) :p

The "button issue" was probably my biggest concern when I first started considering the N1 as a replacement for my 3GS. After reading in the forums that you just need to press the top area of the button, I went ahead and got the N1. Sure enough, that's all you have to do. It's a very minor issue. About the only other thing I can say is that the touch screen on the N1 takes slightly more pressure to register a touch.
I've had my N1 for 4 days and I am ready to put my 3GS up on ebay.

Yeah that was also a concern for me. Like you, I also saw the whole "press a little bit above the actual button" and took it into consideration when I received my Nexus One. Works perfectly every time :)

Just want to give a update to everyone on my impressions for my 3GS to Nexus One switch.

The Nexus One is so fast. I realized how fast it was the first couple of days of use but now that I have done more complicated tasks (Running GPS and switching to other apps and coming back to it,etc) it really does blow the 3GS out of the water for opening apps and using the device in general.

The internet browsing speed however is a little faster but nothing to write home about. Since Safari is so nicely optimized I see that loading the webpages are nearly the same (Did a couple of head to head using my moms 3GS). Even though the Nexus One won every time the 3GS was no slouch when it came to loading webpages.

I have come to absouletly love how much The Nexus One can be customized. Heck I even added a folder to one of my homescreen that is called "Facebook Phone" which is just that. All your friends that have phone numbers in there Facebook profiles will show up in this folder and you can just select one and it will dial. It's really nice and really is only the tip of the iceberg.

The pictures do indeed look amazing and unlike other phones, you can take plenty of snapshots rapidly. Also its very nice how you can upload to various service right from the photo gallery (also downloading certain apps will add themselves to this list). Here is a screenshot so you guys can see what I am talking about:

I am surprised at how polished Android 2.1 is. I have only encountered 1 or 2 problems with certain apps but restarting those apps fixed the issues.

Right now I am EXTREMELY happy with my decision and will not be returning my Nexus One. It is definitely a keeper and for all you people that are tired of the "Apple Eco System" or whatever you call it, this is definitely the phone to get and the best bang for your buck $$$.

Also for you Nexus One owners that have your devices rooted, there is this AMAZING application call SetCPU (In the market). I have gone from 6 hours of usage to 10 hours just by using this application, no joke.

What it does is allow you to set your processor speed say for example when you reach a certain % of battery or when you are charging the device. The best profile you can set is when the device is locked.

I have it set so my processor goes down to 384 mhz when I have my N1 locked which makes sense because I don't need 1GHZ when I am not using it. And when you unlock the device, I have it set so it goes back to 1GHZ. It really is amazing and makes me love my N1 even more because of this type of customization.

It costs $.99 and is worth every single penny. It even has a little widget and notification bar too. Go get it :)

I had a Nexus and went to a 3GS. I think the Nexus downfalls are the way the screen handles itself in direct sunlight (poor), lack of a huge application ecosystem like Apple, and those soft touch buttons on the front.

I am no Apple fanboy as I love to try out new tech, but I just hate the fact that Android phones are constantly updated every month and those that buy a new device may be outdated in less than a few months, whereas iPhone only releases once per year and that is pretty much guaranteed.

Tomorrow before 3PM my shipment for the at&t N1 will be at my door. I'll have an update on what I feel about it coming from my 3gs. I have had all 2 gens of the iphone and in between played with other phones also.

Hopefully the in sunlight part doesn't mess with me too much.

How did you do the screen capture in your post just above this one? Also, I have determined that I'm definitely keeping mine as well, and my 3GS is retired to being basically an iPod Touch now. The phone does what I need much more than the iPhone was doing, and I like how programs can integrate themselves completely into other areas of the OS, unlike iPhone OS where it seems every app is "sandboxed" and can't interact with others, unless they are factory installed.

My only two minor issues with my particular N1 are my battery life, and the fact that cut and paste isn't as robust as the iPhone OS. My particular unit's battery life isn't great. I'm getting about 2/3rds of a days usage out of it before it hits 15%. With my current 3GS, I can get through an entire day of the same amount of usage without needing to charge. My first 3GS (I've since had it replaced with a refurb), however, only got about as far as the N1 is getting now. And my particular N1 takes a very long time to charge from 15% to full, usually averaging around 5 hours (on wall charger, not the slower "connected to a computer" way). My 3GS can recharge to full in around 1 to 1 1/2 hours. Overall, I'm not too worried about this with the N1 as I'm always near a charger, with one at home, work, and in the car. And it's nice that it's the same micro USB connection as all my other devices that I carry daily (bluetooth headset and Verizon MiFI). And I might just get the Seidio 3200mah (over twice the factory's battery capacity) super extended battery that they have for the N1.

Regarding the "use in sunlight" issue that some people have with the phone, I myself don't have any more trouble with it than I do currently with my 3GS. A lot of my work involves being outside (golf course management), and even on full brightness, the 3GS's screen is hard for me to read in full sunshine. For me, both can be read in full sunlight, albeit a bit hard to do sometimes with the sun's glare reflecting back at me on the glossy glass screens. And at least with the N1, if you have the settings widget installed to one of your homescreens, it's only 2 taps on the "brightness" button of that to up the screen backlight to 100%, compared to the 3GS, where it's buried under several menus (unless you are jailbroken, and not many people I know are).

I got the screenshot with the app called PicMe. As far as your battery life is concerned check out the app I mentioned (SetCPU, you have to be rooted though). 5 hours to charge your battery is just not right!!! Something is definitely wrong there. Mines charges in around 1 hour and a half from 20% or so. Definitely check that because its not normal.

Awesome. The sunlight problem is not that big a issue and you can always just bring the brightness up and it looks a whole lot better. Remember to install plenty of widgets and what not so you can see how powerful the Nexus One is. There are also hundreds of live wallpapers available to download from the market :)

I don't really know of a way to "check" it, without just RMA'ing it and getting a replacement. I've read a little bit on it and have seen where some people have had a problem with the battery calibration, so I've been letting it run all the way down and recharging it to see if that helps. So far it's not doing much. Do you have any advice on how to tell if something's wrong with my unit, short of having it replaced? I'm thinking it might be just the battery if something's wrong, as I've read where a few people have had problems with the battery out of the box. Maybe getting the super extended battery would show me if it was the battery or not.

Hmmm I don't know a way to check to see if its the phone itself, battery or possibly charger. To check if its the battery you can try buying one another one one Google's website ($25). I recommend you do that before buying a $60+ battery pack. If you still have the same problem then either your phone or charger is defective.

I have tried several different chargers that I have that output the same 1000ma as the factory charger, so it seems to rule out the charger. That's why I'm thinking of trying a different battery, as I've read of others who've had a bum battery out of the box.

Ah ok. So it has to be the battery or the phone (hopefully not). Try buying a extra battery and see if it charges fine (Shouldn't take more then 2 hours from 0%). If you don't want to spend the $$$ on it, you are still under warranty and can get a new device all together.

Have you noticed a decrease in battery life using the live wallpapers? also how many widgets can you install on the home pages?

I haven't tried a wallpaper that isn't live hehe so I can't say but I imagine it can't be that much of a difference. Concerning the widgets, you can install all the widgets you want as long as they fit. Some widgets are big and some are small, it depends on the size of the widget and how much space you have left on the homescreen.

To Vandam or lostprophet, I've been trying to read up on the rooting and installing of the Cyanogenmod firmware, but can either of you tell me if there is anything different or extra that I have to do with the version that we are using (the one with the AT&T frequencies)? I think all of these cooked ROMs were done for the T-Mobile version, and can't tell for sure if this updates the radio, or if that is an option to do/don't do somewhere throughout the process.

Loading up the roms should be all the same. For the radios tho i think those were aimed at T-mobile specifically to clear up the 3G reception issue, dont quote me on that though. Im using one unlocked on AT&T's Edge and so far haven't seen any need for a radio update, but then again its only Edge.

Mine comes in on Monday so excited!

ive been meaning to do this for so long, but finally sold my 3Gs for 515, just enough for me to pay for my N1!

alright that works, also with widgets I'm guessing everything is just updated every time there is an update with something correct? Definitely something I've been looking forward to.

doesn't the Nexus One screen auto adjust like the iPhones?
