That sucks a bit.

I did finally get a chance to use a pair of Beats and I must say that they're not bad. Everyone here claiming to be some audiophile is overreacting. They enhance the bass much like anything that's made for popular culture.

If it's not for monitoring audio in production or post production then it's probably got something that someone won't like.

The Bose sound good too but the extra bass on the Beats was welcomed for most of the songs I have.

Oh no! Millionaires are required to display one giant corporation's product instead of another giant corporation's product while appearing on mass media.

Bose really doesn't sound good with modern music. The deep extended bass overwhelmes them. EMD, Pop, Club, Hip Hop and Modern R&B all use it. This accounts for 60% or more of sales. Beats' ability to handle this is why they are popular.

Exactly and that's why they're so appealing. Don't forget to include Dubstep to the list of genres where Beats work well.:)

Apple should've bought Bose instead. At least their products are decent.

It is really, really, really, really, really embarrassingly sad that you believe that.

Sennheiser, yes.
Grado, yes.
Etymotic, yes.
Bose? NO.

They are referred to by people with taste as an acronym for Buy Other Stereo Equipment. By no means am I saying that Beats is a quality product, but I wouldn't give you a bucket of piss for a lifetime supply of Bose headphones.

It's funny how people actually think brand names matter. Advertisers really know how to exploit stupidity.

Lolllll shhhhhh.

That's entirely true. I would consider $300 Beats phones now that Apple bought them... Apple's brand doesn't buy junk. If the whole company is worth Apple Buying, then they must do something right.

Regardless of our opinions on the matter, it really boils down to what were the terms of the original contract with Beats and does the Bose deal hinder the players ability to meet those terms.

It doesn't matter what Beats contract with the players entails. Part of being in the NFL Players Association means you must agree to the collective bargaining agreement. Part of that agreement allows the NFL to have exclusive sponsors and dictate what is allowed during NFL activities.

It is just a shame that people with little knowledge of the NFL are writing these articles making people believe this is some type of surprise. This has been a part of the NFL for many, many years. The players are well aware they have to abide by the terms.

Apple should give a set of Beats to every game atendee.

The NFL would not allow that to happen to begin with. You can't sponsor games without the team and NFL's approval.

I tried a pair of Beats last year and ended up returning them. The sound was good but the suction of the headphones was way too much and it gave me a headache after wearing them for more than a few minutes.

Yeah, I bet you're part of the NFL legal defense team.

I wonder what happens if the athlete has a contract that states they will wear Beats headphones at the game when the NFL's contract says they cannot.

I smell lawyers.

Nope.

Agreed, if the NFL deal with Bose supersedes the individual contracts the players have with Beats, then Apple should legally be able to recoup any monies paid out to the players.

Nope

In fact, I would not be surprised that Apple--which now owns the Beats brand of products--may seriously contemplate a lawsuit against the NFL over this. And the NFL better watch out: Apple lawyers have a LOT of experience dealing with legal issues (e.g., the spat with Google over Android) and they have potentially much deeper pockets than Bose and the NFL legal teams combined.

Ain't gonna happen.

That's the most interesting part of this. Can a league deal force the players to possibly violate individual contracts, sponsorship and endorsements?

The athletes NFL contract supersedes any endorsement deal they may have. There will be no lawyers involved. The players are banned from wearing competing products on camera, not banned from using the products, and not from marketing their endorsed items. The athletes cannot wear NFL paraphernalia in those endorsements unless the vendor is also endorsing the NFL or is paying the NFL for the use of the likenesses of the NFL brand. This not only applies to beats but Nike, Reebok, UnderArmor, and any other vendor relationship with the NFL. You will not see players wearing Reebok on camera because Nike has the contract. You will see players advertising for Reebok, but they won't be wearing their team apparel. There is nothing Apple can or will do.

Apple/Beats should do an ad campaign offering to pay any "Pro Football player's fine" for wearing Beats over Bose. Microsoft and Bose using the NFL to help keep their sinking ships a float. Microsoft paid millions to have Surface tablets on the sidelines and the game announcers still refer to them at "iPads"...LOL!

Ha! You would not get one single NFL player to participate. They won't bite the hand that feeds. Apple is not that hand. The NFL is. The NFL is also the hand that feeds the agents that rep the players, the networks that broadcast the games, the cities that host the teams, a lot of the companies players have endorsement deals with.... do you see where I'm going here? Do you want to know what will happen? When the Bose contract is up, Apple will bid on the new deal. I say that IF Beats remains in it's current configuration. If Apple integrates Beats into an "i" brand then the point becomes moot since Apple doesn't really do endorsement deals.

Otherwise, NFL players will wear Bose headphones on camera or no headphones at all.

Forgive me for not taking your word on that. How about showing me that explicit term within the players contract?

Some of the newest Beats products are actually quite decent.

Bose is best for their Active Sound canceling, of which they're leaps and bounds ahead of the rest of the market, but the sound of their products is no better if slightly inferior than some of the newest Beats products.

The sound canceling is why I own a pair. I use them while in flights and occasionally while coding to get rid of background noise. I did not buy them for their sound quality, but I don't find them particularly bad there either. Half the time though I am just using them with the NC on and the cord unplugged.

No iPads, no Beats, but yes to beating your wife. Good work, NFL.

For real? The NFL is by NO MEANS, NO WAY hurting for revenue. They ARE the apple (of the tech world) of the sports industry. And this even got past 35 down voters. Sheesh.

Exactly. This whole thing reminds me of the celebrity endorsements for smartphones but then they get caught using, texting, tweeting, etc. from an iPhone. That marketing seems to have worked out well for Apple and they didn't have to pay a cent. I wonder if rich players will start paying fines just to wear Beats. Doubtful but that kind of story would put Apple marketing over the top.

Huh? So you are saying players for years should of sued because of the long list of things they are not allowed to wear? Again, this people are acting like the NFL banning Beats is something new. Any exclusive partner is going to keep competitors away from any NFL events. It is completely legal. No one is threatening to sue but people on this forum.

Btw, did you know when the player gives an interview they can't have a cup or bottle of powerade? Do you see NFL players suing the NFL because they can't show their sponsor at games? Nope, because the players agreed to this by being a part of the NFLPA.

100% in agreement. It seems the MR crowd isn't that sports savvy.

Apple should give a set of Beats to every game atendee. Out of the box & unwrapped, so that they'd be more likely to wear them. Watch Bose VPs heads explode when everybody in the crowd has a set of Beats.

"Hey NFL...Can you ban you fans?"

Apple gives away 50-100,000 headphones for free? hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Besides, bozzykid said it best. Not gonna happen. Besides do you really think an NFL fan who attends games is going to side with Apple over the NFL? Riiiiiiiight:rolleyes:

You're right, the NFL players sure seem like a fine bunch of upstanding members of society. They would never beat a wife, kill a dog, kill a person, etc. Surely they wouldn't stoop so low as to (gasp) break a contract.

they're appealing compared to earbuds and other crap
sure. spend that $400-$500 you could have spent for TWO pairs of other headphones (that sound slightly better) if that's your thing. just stop trying to convince people who know high audio quality that they're somehow 'missing something' about why beats are popular. we know. it's the "b" and the customers' inexperience with really good headphones. there isn't another angle to this.

regardless, bose has one redeeming quality: mini soundlink. best BT speaker out there right now. have the team use these things.

Studies have found Beats Headphones are no better than many other headphone on the market and you can get the same results for far less money.
