In today's pass happy NFL,I'll gladly settle for 15 yards from the line of scrimmage, or a spot foul for plays that are less than 15 yards. The problem is that it's a "judgment" call..And that varies from official to official. I wouldn't mind seeing it become reviewable either. Give teams an extra challenge or two for PI calls. I'd gladly let it take an extra five minutes for review if it means getting it right. We'll see what happens on Sunday..

Getting it right is most important on Sunday's game. With the physical nature of these two teams and strong pass coverage, I would consider ball possession and running a lot more.

Protect the QB and only if he has adequate time go to a passing game. If the QBs get pass happy we are going to see a lot of turnovers and little success in the red zone.

You can win a game with a TD and a couple of field goals if you hold the other team back and keep their time of possession down. Using the clock is the best way to counter a passing team.

Pretty much everything from where the ball should be spotted to whether or not the defensive player dove at QBs legs is a judgement call. Unfortunately there is no perfect, nor even a nearly prefect solution, because it will always come down to people and people make mistakes. Personally I think everything should be challengeable, even non-calls. A missed holding or roughing the passer call *cough*Sanchez getting leveled*cough* can be as detrimental as an overzealous PI call.

Sanchez was roughed up illegally, as was Favre. When a play is over, it's over, not some overtime session for people to beat up on QBs.

I have a feeling today's game is going to be one of the most physical, and maybe dirty SB games ever played. Not since the 1970s have I seen two defenses not shy about hitting very hard and going after the QB with such a vengeance. Like some posters here, I think the PI calls are a bit over the top, but what about all those uncalled late hits? Unlike Favre, Manning and Brees like to take a little extra time scanning the field for receivers and are not fast release QBs. The defenses of these two teams will use those extra seconds to move in for the kill.

This will be a penalty ridden, low scoring ball control/clock control game. I just hope nobody has a career ending injury here. I think this will be what some term as ugly football at its worst, or what some fans of black and blue football call a real throwback game to when it was a man's sport. No team will garner 30 points. At best, this can only get as high as 28-27. You heard it here first, I think ;)

Anyway, this won't be a west coast offense driven game. I want to see the Saints win, just because, well, I have never seen the Saints win. I also want to see one of the greatest QBs (Manning) of all time, third in records held at this point as an active starting QB in his career, get a second ring. It would put him arguably on a par with Elway (who held dozens of records at retirement with two rings) and have him approach Dan Marino who left football with every important QB record.

At the end of the day, it would be nice to see the Saints kick off what could be the beginning of the career of the next great NFL quarterback. I don't think it will kick off a dynasty since long term dynasties like that of the 90s Cowboys, 70s Steelers, 80s Niners, 60s Green Bay, and the 50s Browns are a thing of the past.

UPDATE: Looking at the experts picks, one about a third of them agree with me for a sub-30 game, a third think one team will get at least 30 (all saying Indy), and a third think both teams will get at least 30 points. I can't see the third scenario unless both teams have defenses that decided not to show up.

Colts 34-31 over the Saints.

Some experts say something similar to this, but why don't some people say 34-10 over the Saints? Just wondering. Lately, there has been so much on Manning that one would expect his team to blow out the Saints.

Drew Brees is the reason I'm giving the Saints 31 pts. but Manning's better so that's why I'm picking the Colts.

It will be a shoot out.

Everyone is saying shootout, but im not so sure. No long balls tonight Gentlemen, look for the colts to take there time and keep their D off the field. Peyton Manning is going to inch down that field, the colts want the ball in Mannings hands for at least 45 minutes tonight.

My prediction is Eagles vs. Steelers next February...and that's coming from a Bayou Boy. I'm basing this on off-season moves thus far and of course the draft.

GEAUX SAINTS!!! :p

Just looked at Page 1 and loled at this pre season Prediction.

That is funny..... Thank god it wasn't the Eagles or Steelers.

I am thinking:

Saints: 34
Colts: 31

Actually I am at a loss. I keep switching. I have no care of either but I want each one to win for different reasons. Hmmm

Either way there's still going to be a "Manning" associated withe Saints.

saints!!! Yes!!

Who Dat?!?!

Couldn't have scripted it any better

The onside kick was pivotal
The 2 point conversion denial being overturned was critical
The interception was magical

I agree on all your points. That was a really good game. That onside kick surprised me just as much as it surprised the Colts. I screamed during the interception... it was beautiful! :D

It was a well played game for both teams with some key plays that made the difference. You've got to give credit to Sean Payton for his coaching moves. Like Bellicheck did earlier in the season Coach Payton made bold moves to keep the Colt's offense off the field. The only difference is that the moves worked for Payton and so he get's called a genius while the moves didn't work for Bellicheck and his judgement gets questioned.

I though it was fitting that the Saints D got the pick to seal the game seeing as how they have made big defensive plays all season like that. 10 touchdown interceptions over the course of the the entire season is not too shabby.

I think some of the commentators said it best. The Saints first and only Superbowl win really can't be questioned by anyone as they went through three future Hall of Fame QB's to get there, Warner, Favre, and Manning. That's good stuff right there.

WHO DAT!! my whole family was jumping up and down throughout the second half, especially during the onside kick. i was flat out shocked at that play, and we were jumping up and down when peyton threw the pick! i can't believe the saints are super bowl champions still.

anyway, the media was all about peyton and the colts all week long, and we got ignored most of the time for peyton manning coordination ceremony, and the media was for the most part crowning the colts. it was so sweet to see that we won despite all of the media bashing us.

I'm happy for Saints players and fans, but some credit must be given to the Colts...especially their defense. If the other team can't score on the ONE YARD LINE given multiple chances, then the defense doing quite well. I was impressed.

I just wish the game was lost to Drew Brees, instead of an interception. Regardless, I'm shaking with excitement for next season! Awesome Superbowl though!

I was sorta disappointed at the Saints for not making that 1 yd line. However, they made up for it in fashion. BTW, Mardi Gras started out early this year, I have no reason why:rolleyes::p:D

They most certainly did...there's no doubt in my mind that the Saints will continue to be one of the best teams in the NFL, especially under Brees's leadership. I love Drew Brees and the Saints and how classy of a team they are, and I'll continue to cheer for New Orleans when I'm not cheering for the Colts

Enjoy the win!!!
