I must now admit that the Saints ARE for real. I'd like to see Saints vs. Vikings in NFC Championship game.

That would be an interesting one. I didn't hold much hope for the Saints being a great team, but they have shown they are for real. Let's see how they handle their second half of the season opponents.

In the AFC, I am not shocked by the Colts but their players are more familiar to most people and it's hard to see them having much trouble. Let's see if Denver can be a challenge to the Colts later on. But it's safe to say the Saints are not a complete anomaly as their lead in their division mid season isn't bad.

Just saw on ESPN that the Chiefs released Larry Johnson.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Given good blocking and a fresh start, Larry Johnson might still be the power-running Pro Bowler who had back-to-back 1,700-yard seasons for Kansas City.

Are you listening, Seattle? What do you think, Indianapolis? Chicago? Houston?

Or he might be a declining malcontent who'll only cost money and cause trouble.

To that, every coach and general manager in the NFL is listening. The Chiefs released Johnson on Monday, the day he was due back from his second suspension in the past 12 months.

Any team with a faltering running game is bound to be tempted by Johnson, despite his baggage and his age (he turns 30 on Nov. 19).

I see that Denver is not invincible.

I thought they would go without a loss longer than Indy. They looked so tough early in the season and now they lose to a questionable Pittsburgh? Maybe the Steelers are coming into their game and can be the challenge Indy needs to face, or it could be the improved Patriots.

Still, way too early to tell for anybody.

I suspect half of the division leaders now will not even make the playoffs or lead the division at season's end.

I think the dark horse in football here are the Cardinals. They have not started off as the ones to watch, but coming from behind, out of the shadows, they have shown they are resilient in the late season while others are licking their wounds. I am also going to keep an eye on the Houson Texans.

wow almost 2 months and only a 1 mention of the 6-2 bengals??!?! they beat the champs, granted, who were without polamalu and the stats of mendenhall. they beat the ravens x2. both time having benson rush over 100 yards. seriously i was surprised they did it the first time and dumbfounded when they did it again. oh and they destroyed the so called "monsters of the midway".
they play the steelers again this week for undisputed 1st place. did i mention they have the #2 rush defense? this all from a team that was 4-11-1 last year.

While I don't think the Bears have buyers remorse, I'm sure they are not happy with the production they are getting out of Cutler. I think the relative success of the Broncos this season could be messing with his head. I mean they were supposed to be in a world of hurt after he left, but it looks like they are by far the superior team at this point, both offensively and defensively. What an interesting season it's been so far.

the biggest thing hurting the bears right now: lack of direction. the coaching just isnt up there. they have the talent. Cutler is and can be a good player, but i dont think he has the coaching to help him and the rest of the team succeed. our defense has been crap all year too, which hasn't helped things at all either.

The 49ers win, so I hope the Cardinals lose so their lead in the NFC West is smaller.

This year's Cardinals don't look like a team defending an NFC crown at this point in the season. They already lost three games at mid-season.

darn, it looks like the cardinals are going to win and extend their nfc west lead over the 49ers, and have that division lead with a hapless 6-3 meaning the 49ers are not awake yet

there is still plenty of time in this season to stop the cardinals, or so we say in san francisco

the saints seem to rule the nfc and if they win one more game, they could eventually get the wild card, even if they never win after that again

Does Bob Costas really have a reason to be at the games other than to pitch shows. What does he do, what does NBC pay him for.

Great game, great win for the Colts.

I turned to another channel since, with the Patriots large lead, I thought Manning was just having a rare off day.

So the Pats are 6-3 and the Colts are undefeated? 6-3 would be fine for the 49ers or Lions, but for the Patriots with Brady, it's pretty sad.
