As long as you have a licenced installation on disc or USB then it is quite easy. Back up your files and boot from your install medium.
Having to wipe the drive or have two installations side by side isn't really the same as supporting downgrades though, is it?

Its at least allowing you to do it. Unlike Apple on their mobile devices. Which still proves my original point right.

You're confusing "allowing installation" with "supporting downgrade".

Whatever. Either way, it doesn't bother Microsoft but it seems to bother Apple. No matter how you word it, the situation is no different.

Actually... You're comparing a phone os with a computer os. Apple doesn't stop you from installing old computer os's.

Can windows phone users switch freely between different versions of windows phone?

Did any of the people complaining read this??

Basically says that you "agree" on whatever Apple says, don't like it, don't hit agree.

And hitting Agree should automatically preclude you from rolling back to a previous OS version why, exactly?

Apple still sign iOS 4 because it's as high you can go on the iPhone 3G and there are still people using it. If they'd stop signing iOS 4, it would be impossible to restore an iPhone 3G. They're strict, but they're not gonna kill the iPhone 3G :)

That's not how it works. Apple don't stop signing a firmware for every single device. They can choose which devices are able to install it and which ones are not. They allow the iPhone 3G to install iOS 4 because like you said, it's the latest version available for that device. However, devices like the iPhone 4 are not able to install iOS 4 anymore because there is a later version of iOS that works on that device (iOS 7). The point I was making was, for some reason Apple still allow the iPhone 3GS to install iOS 4 even though theres a later version of iOS for that device (iOS 6).

Yes. A factory reset on Windows Phones also takes you back to the OS the phone came with before any updates or upgrades.

Like I said, did you read the license agreement?? I think not.

Yes, hitting "agree" puts you under Apple control regarding the iDevice and iOS, let me put it in simple words...

1. General.
(a) You are not the owner of the software, Apple is.
(b) Your are limited to the options that Apple gives you.

Note: Also, on the second photo says that if you have recently bought an iOS device and you do not agree to the terms of the license, you can return you iDevice.

Are you allergic to understanding not everyone are interested, experienced and so on? You're like my cousin who can't understand why people would ever hire carpenters...

Woeful analogy.

You hire a carpenter when you require woodwork/carpentry done in your home.

Next. In fact, don't ... just go on the ignore list instead. So reply if you wish, I won't read it and you're wasting your own time.

There was no warning of such a drastic change. Like most unsuspecting consumers, I got a message on my equipment about an upgrade and I upgraded. Luckily I have warned others who have no idea that the product that they purchased is about to be altered in a huge way

This is patently false. The changes were known months before the final release.

Nothing in (b) says you should not be able to roll back, nor does it make the general claim that "Your are limited to the options that Apple gives you"

Try harder.

And you ask for the possibility to downgrade when you require a downgrade. Doh.

Putting him on ignore does not make it a woeful analogy in the slightest.

How can someone with a site that looks like that complain one bit about design. 1995 anyone? Awful.

Dr Stallman's computer was probably discontinued about 2005.

If you email him today, he appreciates you keeping your line width within 70 chars
to prevent line wrap at his end :D
^^true^^

Anyways let's see you do better with entirely free software right down to the BIOS in your computer!

What other device allows firmware downgrade anyway?
Windows doesn't, you have to do a fresh install.
My Garmin GPS won't allow it, neither will my router or BIOS loader,
my Sony PSP, or Playstation.

Do app developers have to make previous versions of their apps available too?
because you didn't like an update?

It's so sad... I used to be so excited about apple products. I remember the anticipation waiting on line at nite for the iphone 4. Now I see how blindly many of you are led like sheep, or like communists who parrot the party line released by Pravda. Apple says no access to io6, Apple must be right. The poor soul who downloaded the Io7 and is miserable about it is treated like a troll or called to blame because they trusted the upgrade without doing enough research... And you defend this corporation blindly without question. And this makes me firm in my resolve that what has happened here is very, very wrong, and that the consumer must be protected from this arrogant corporation .... And it would be so very simple for apple to allow a week or two window for those who want to revert....

They did.

On the contrary, most devices allow f/w downgrade: BIOS chips, routers, even Windows, they all can be "flashed back" to a previous f/w or s/w.

The exception of course being Apple and Sony devices.

"Windows does, you can do a fresh install."

There, fixed.

App developers don't have to but you are free to keep older app versions and roll back to them as required.

These moaners are clever enough to surf net, find sites and sign on to the forums, where they can moan about anything and everything under the sun - but claim ignorance over not know anything about iOS 7 UI...... Hard to believe.....

I guess they crave for some attention in virtual world, perhaps which they are lacking in real world???

OH SNAP!!!

(but so true)

Damn, you would make such a BAD lawyer...

"...The iOS Software Update, if any, may not necessarily include all existing software features or new features that Apple releases for newer or other models of iOS Devices.

The terms of this License will govern any iOS Software Updates provided by Apple that replace and/or supplement the Original iOS Sofware product...
"

From that, how can you not understand that Apple dictates what software is available.

And again, from (a) Apple is the owner of the software, if they don't want you to use iOS 6, guess what, they can do it, since every iOS in the world is property of Apple, not yours.

Umm, the previous version of the software is still available on my PC in the form of an IPSW file. Where in the EULA does it warn you that Apple will not sign this particular IPSW file for a software restore of my own device?

i love ios 7. looks much better than 6.

Apparently, a lot of people are getting sick from ios7.

After upgrading Apple devices to the latest operating system, iOS 7, users have reported feeling physically ill because of navigation animations.

A number of users have taken to Apple forums to complain about the new OS update, saying that zoom and motion effects have resulted in nausea, headaches, hurting eyes, dizziness and motion sickness.

One user associated animations with car sickness, and others -- after using their Apple mobile devices for no more than a few minutes and feeling sick as a result -- chose to downgrade their operating systems.

I tyried to disagree, it just keeps throwing me to recovery mode and asks to connect to iTunes, hmmm there is a choice!

They did.

No they did not! How long they might have had a beta available for testing is very different than the time period between when the message appeared on the phone/ipad and the closing of the window to revert back. Most consumers know little or nothing about testing beta versions, nor should they . Ios7 was released on Thursday Sept 18 and the window to revert was taken down somewhere less than two days later - although correct me if I am off here because I am having difficulty reading the io7 calendar :)

I agree with the OP in terms of slightly extending the rollback window.

Couldn't they have at least waited 1 week before removing the IOS 6 software, so people could have some hands-on time? Or until they release the next revision 7.1??

You can watch as many Youtube preview videos as you want, but that vastly different from using it hands-on in the real world.

IMHO, 2 days seems arbitrarily short, especially for such a major release
