Again, not true. There were lots of posts that read along the lines of "Hopefully this gets fixed before GM" followed by "this still exists in GM, WTF?!" With plenty of people agreeing.

Yes, but they're right that roughly the same people defending Apple's method of updating were the ones saying "it's still a beta!" (even in GM), then "you can't judge until you try!" after it was released.

What iDevice are you running? I just ran my battery on my iPad 2 below 20% yesterday and didn't have that problem.

4S. It isn't consistently like that. Like I said, the battery life has been better since doing a Reset all settings and Reset network settings. But it seems to hang sometimes, like the service stopped or something.

It only does this when using the music app for a bit. The music app starts to get very slow to respond (until it eventually crashes). Once it crashed, the battery percentage updated. But then it died unexpectedly.

Whatever, I may need to get an iPod or something for the gym now because the above problem is only a small part... the music app is so crippled it's useless for me. I enjoyed many years of a single device doing everything for me, but it seems I can no longer enjoy that experience.

I can't (and won't) argue that fact. Again, I just don't like inaccurate generalizations. It's akin to saying "all {insert nationality or race} always do {insert stereotype}" and I have a real problem with that.

Have you updated to 7.0.2 yet? I've almost forgotten the music app woes. I personally like the look of it although the loss of some functions (album vs song sort in artist) and the fact it crashed on me every 5-10 songs when I was starring every song was frustrating.

I have updated, and it's no different at all. The music app truly is that bad. I suppose it's okay if you have the ideal setup of complete albums, not too many artists, and the 4 inch screen to show a little more. Still, white backlight border to album art photos isn't ideal.

I don't really want to buy or carry another device for music, but it's barely usable at times. It's sad when my iPhone was so good at it before.

Oh, and for those of you experiencing battery issues, here's a good article reminding us of some good tips;

11 Tips to Keep iOS 7 From Destroying Your Battery Life

Some good tips there but they are the more obvious (in my opinion). Because iOS 7 has flaws and bugs that eat a ton of battery (many people reporting around quarter to half), which needs other things not mentioned. For me, "Reset all Settings" and "Reset Network Settings" made a huge difference and brought me back to iOS 6 battery life, pretty much.

Anyways, don't want to get too far off topic here.

Are you kidding me???? It's the exact same functionality as before! Open the camera app and switch to video!

I do not agree with you ! The camera app is much much better than before :D

You are glutton for punishment if you upgrade to a major release instead of restore.

That being said, I know many of you can't stand to lose messages or game saves that aren't in Game Center.

Settings.app > General > Reset > Reset All Settings must be done without exception. If anything petition to have the OS suggest this to the user.

Nobody forced you to upgrade. They didn't tell you that you MUST accept the new system.

So, what is life in "I'm entitled to everything"land like, anyway? Disappointing?

:p
people really shouldnt call every single example of having an opinion "being entitled".
If you buy something with your own money you ARE entitled to do with it as you will. Witness the silly youtube videos of people smashing, drowning and dropping iphone 5C's and 5S's. Regretable to some, but their money right?
AFAIK you can always restore your iphone from a backup image.
You did backup before you updated right? Even if you don't plan on reverting to your previous IOS version, it is a good idea in case something like a power failure or glitch happens while updating.
This is what I advise all my friends, family and the corporate users I administer.

I feel that Apple withdrew signing of 6.1.3/6.1.4 far too aggressively.

I feel that Apple should have been much stricter about the devices it upgraded to iOS 7. iPhone 4, iPad 2* and iPod Touch 4th do not perform to their standards.

I am VERY pleased with iOS 7 on my iPhone 5 and so is my wife. Pretty much ecstatic actually.

My Thai sister-in-law called me virtually in tears because her iPad 3 was so unfamiliar and Thai translations in apps were broken. I would have downgraded her to 6.1.4 five days into the update if possible.

*Several iPad 2's we use as customer interface workhorses have been a thorn in my side this week.

Absolutely no desire to return to 6. We have 4 iPhones and 3 IPads in our family and everyone loves 7. Every friend I've spoken with like 7 as well.

Could be a very small "movement"

The ability to read and learn more about the software you are installing before you blindly go for it is key. You say there was no warning. The keynote was back in June and Apple's website has had images and videos of it available to view since then.

However, exactly how the new iOS will impact your device isn't something you can simply read up on. Apple should allow a few more days for new X.0 releases on signing the old one.

Wow, I didn't realize that pressing on a clearly labeled button is exactly the same as swiping in some direction! Maybe I was totally missing all the other exactly same things in the world too, like all those things that are actually different! Whoa!

On top of that, when swiping, you have to make sure you don't click the shutter button, or the buttons to the sides!

Well it's been a couple of days since I first posted and I've read all sorts of comments. So let's start from the beginning. As someone who waited on line overnight for the iphone 4, who purchased one for my gf, who purchased an ipad, who purchased an iphone 5.... I was surprised and appalled that when I downloaded ios7 and discovered that one could not revert to ios6 just a couple of days after release. In my case, my gf with the iphone 4 that I had purchased for her birthday was upset because her phone was excruciatingly slow, almost crippled. And the battery life, which wasn't that great to start with, is now so bad that she has to be on perpetual charger. Yes, we disabled this, disabled that, but the drain was very fast.

And, in using my iphone 5 and ipad, I am having difficulty seeing the thin lines that are throughout the new ios . Yes, I made all the tweaks, font size, etc, but I am still having issues even after the changes. And I am also having battery issues with the ipad . And I hate the icons and find the calendar unusable, amongst other things

All that I wanted to be able to do is to revert to the io6... And I would be happy, my gf would be happy... We would still be content Apple customers, albeit hopeful that future tweaks would remedy some issues.

BUT Apple, just two days? After release, eliminated our ability to revert. And so we are, like many, many Apple customers, stuck with no recourse but to seek alternative products.

What I had hoped is that if enough people like yourselves supported a longer open window, then Apple would provide some recourse, as happened with the Google maps fiasco. I did not post this to get attention, I am not some troll... I am the guy that waited with you in line with excitement and anticipation to get the latest Apple product

While I do take responsibility for not researching the upgrade prior to acceptance, what you need to understand is that while many of you on this board follow the ios7 developments closely, most consumers don,t. Despite the fact that I loved Apple products, I was very busy with work and, based on my previous trust in Apple upgrades and fixes in the past, just accepted the recommended ios7 I had no idea it was decreed by apple to be a "no turning back" decision. And now that I realize that they took the freedom of choice away from me, I am totally alienated like many others and want to let others know that this Corporation could care less about its customers and that we should pursue other products

I believe it is in all of your interests to support a longer period to revert back to a previous ios. Even if you are thrilled with the new io, what if you downloaded it and the discovered that it created problems that you had not anticipated? And what if you discovered that you could not do anything to go back?

You are the ones who are the core of the Apple support... You are the ones that can effect change, they will listen to you, if anyone.

So please, stand up for the consumer and urge Apple to allow users to revert to a previous ios.

If I could change the title of this thread, it would be " let Apple know that not allowing a longer windows revert to a previous ios is hurting the consumer and alienating many previous Apple enthusiasts"

There are many, many consumers and Apple fans who feel the same:

If u were such a devoted apple fan you would have heard iOS 7 being talked about before it came out. My mom who is 65 years old and has an iPhone and an iPad called me and asked what this big update is about. In no way was she going to upgrade if it made changes in any way! I told her not to upgrade. She doesn't read macrumors to know that it was gonna change her phone. She read the update when the notice popped up and double checked with me. Apple didn't force you...all you had to do is read the terms or checkout macrumors.

You had plenty of time to be on here and complain about it after the fact. I understand it sucks, but that's life. U gonna complain when your car dealer paints your car yellow after you click approve on?

At the end of the day, u will be back!

On top of that, when swiping, you have to make sure you don't click the shutter button, or the buttons to the sides!

Actually I think in iOS 7 none of the photo is behind controls or anything like that (at least not in the regular photo mode).

I'm "kinda" in the same boat as you, wishing I could go back to iOS6. It's not that I don't like the update (It has its good and bad parts, in my opinion). I've been having major technical headaches with it trying to get it to sync my music (iTunes 11.1 crashing on 3 separate PCs, iOS7 rebooting every couple of days, slow iOS7 performance on iPhone 4S).

I know a lot of my friends/family with iPhone 4 and 4S have been complaining about the slow performance of iOS7 (though in my case my 4S is a refurbished phone because my volume button fell off a few months ago, that probably isn't helping matters...)

In short, I wish that if there was a legitimate technical reason then Apple would let you revert back to iOS6.

iOS 7 is an operating system, not a UI.

If developers take advantage of new features in iOS 7,
and customers purchased those Apps, then downgraded, breaking the Apps,
there would be far more tears than are being shed in this thread.

iOS 7 is not sold to the customer. The customer purchases a phone
that comes with a licence to use the software provided,

and the customer agrees to a license before it is operable.
That is why an over the air upgrade will never be fully automatic.

If the user does the download, agrees to the terms,
doesn't do the research such as watching a free keynote
..doesn't like the colours or whatever...
well...

Only in square mode, I believe. Normal mode puts it behind the controls for sure on my 4S. I'm assuming the 4" screen phones don't suffer this.

XArtx, your points have all been rebutted all over this thread. The keynote sure didn't mention the problems many are having, and there is no defendable reason to not leave the window open for 1-2 weeks to resolve errors. Even just as a courtesy to those who experience problems with their devices.

To the OP:

You should have copied your last ios6 update file to your desktop before upgrading to ios7. I found the last update on my iPhone5 it was 6.1.4 so I found the restore.ipsw file and saved it. That way if and when I do decide to upgrade to ios7 and I don't like it I can revert back to 6.1.4 with this file.

I don't plan to update anytime soon...I went to the store to play with it first hand and there is just too much white and the text is hard to read in messages and other areas, making adjustments didn't help much. I am happy with ios6, I have 40 gigs of music and everything just works perfectly w/ itunes, I like the colors, everything is easy to see and read. Unless I read of some updates apple does to ios7 to enhance read-ability and giving us a darker theme to choose from I'm keeping ios6. I have a black iphone 5 and w/ a white/pastel theme it would be too much of a change to get use to. Just my opinion.

Did the keynote say that performance and battery issues will happen if he upgrades? I think not.

And I don't think the OP is going to read every Beta how the new iOS is performing.

----------

Did Apple website state iOS7 will not be lag free on iPads?

Not everyone is having these issues you know. If he's having problems, he can always try to trouble shoot on his own or take it in to an Apple store to see if they can determine why it's acting the way it is.

Umm, the only problem is your 6.1.4 ipsw is useless now as Apple won't sign it for a restore. The window was merely 2 days long after iOS7 went public.
