I just downloaded iBooks revamped for ios7 and it's an UG.

It's so ugly ugly ugly! Apple stuff used to be beautiful! This just isn't.

Have you tried highlighting in iBooks? Awful! I hate highlighting now and I used to do it because it was so beautiful it encouraged me to highlight just for the sake of it.

Bye bye Apple. Nice knowing you.
For the first time in years I'm considering jumping ship.

First off, it's not THAT old, only 4 years. No, I buy used Macs from Mac of All Trades because I can't afford new ones. But as long a I can update this to the latest software, I'll hang on to it for a few more years. When I can't. I'll get something newer. I had my G4 Digital Audio for eight years. I upgraded the CPU, hard drives, graphics card, etc. When it wasn't doing the trick anymore I got a newer one. Then I got this iMac. It does everything I need it to do, for the most part.

I don't care what people use, but when they start saying things like Snow Leopard is better than Mountain Lion or Mavericks, I don't take them very seriously. I've used all those versions.

And because at some point new applications won't run on it. Then you will have the whining going on...

And Apple is going to stop supporting it. And the newer OSs are always faster and have more features. I switched to Mountain Lion just to have gesture support, and got a Magic Trackpad. But it was better than Lion, which was way better than Snow Leopard.

Why live in the past? I have a fairly new iPhone 5. Why would I want to keep it on an old OS? I could have gotten a iPhone 4 or some such crap. I enjoy software and OS updates, and have since my first Mac in 1994.

I had a co woker once that swore she was never going to use OS X, so she stayed on OS 9 on her PowerMac 7600. Guess who started whining that she couldn't access certain websites because of her old browser, and that she couldn't use Eudora (!) anymore for email, etc, etc.

She worked in the graphics field, but of course support for PPC went by the wayside. How was that working for her? Not too well I'm afraid. You are shooting yourself in the foot. Maybe not now, but by next year your chooses for software will start getting limited.

I think iOS 7 is really good. I like the new look, and the new features. I disliked a lot of iOS 6. It was kludgy, and had disparate UI elements, like that out of place dark blue alert that would pop up. It looked like a mishmash of elements designed by a bunch of different people crammed together. The design was poor IMO. I'm also really tired of the Aqua look. Those shiny 3D button and icons. How long has it been now? 13 years? It's old and tired and has been copied, ad nauseum. Look at Android? They couldn't even come up with their own look. So it's important for Apple to go in a new direction.

I'm also glad they ditched the skeuomorphism. That stuff was very childish.

Use what ever you like, but don't blame Apple for not standing still. This was the same thing when they went from System 7 to OS 8, and people hated the new look. And then from OS 9 to OS X, etc. And look how OS X has changed. No more pin stripes and candy colors. Then they ditched the brushed metal look. It keeps evolving as it should. They hadn't updated the look of iOS in a very long time.

That is great. System 7 and System 8 stood for a quite well and Apple did give option for people back then. You can like the new OS for whatever the reason and Apple can make whatever the improvements or changes they want to make, BUT until you perfect your OS, you'd better allow people to downgrade. I am totally fine with iOS 6 and its old looking and iOS 6 is totally useable for most people.

Your agruement really does not tell me anything why shouldn't Apple give option for downgrade. Your agurment merely just tellping people they SHOULD upgrade.

No, I have it on an iPhone 4, an iPhone 4S, and an iPad Air.

And if you think it is only good for trash, then send it to me - my daughter would love an upgrade from her iPhone 3G.

Rather than just say you have it working, why not help us get our equipment working ?

----------

sounds like it's time for you to upgrade

I did upgrade to ios7.

Are you suggesting Apple wrote ios7 to force everyone to upgrade to the latest iPhone? (ipad, ipod touch)

I finally switched to iOS 7 this past week. I don't really care for it and wish my phone was back like it was. The phone is faster but I don't care for the color combination and brightness of the icons and the messages text. I also don't like the Music app and how there is album art when sorting by Artist, I want my simple list back.

The one plus I will say is I can now stream iTunes video purchases on the iPad without downloading the entire file.

There have been tons of complian on MR, and possibly other forums about iOS 7.

It's has been over 2 months since it was launched and there is plenty of information and material out there for you to make a decision whether you would like iOS 7 or not, hell you could have gone to an Apple store and played around with an iOS 7 device first, to make sure you like it or not.

So I am just curious, why did you download iOS 7??

I was at the authorized apple service centre yesterday to get my mac book pro sorted... There before me was this old guy who was having issues with his iPhone data on his new phone... Turned out he didn't know how to switch it on from settings... So he was quite technologically unaware... After he got his problems sorted he spent the next 15 minutes asking whether it is advisable for him to upgrade to iOS 7... All the features and benefits etc. says there was this upgrade notification and whether it was necessary to do it... He also spent another 10 minutes asking whether his wife's old iPhone 4 would be able I handle it as it was a very old phone... He also asked if they had a 4 with iOS 7 which he could play with for a while to decide...

So you see... There are people who have some brains in this world... And seeing that old guy with so much common sense even though he might not be so technically sound made me laugh at these whiners even more... ##

And that devalues the idea of being able to downgrade how exactly again?

And that devalues the idea of being able to downgrade how exactly again?

If there is a ton of information available both negative and positive about iOS 7 and you know you cannot roll back to the older version and yet you decide to upgrade without checking - then I guess it does devalue the idea.. don't you think?

By proving that you should do your homework before taking any step... Which is just common sense... But, you are right... Common sense is so rare nowadays that it should be declared a super power...

The problem with your views is that you seem to be putting the blame on either Apple or the user, without acknowledging that the other party is still equally to blame. This is not a binary situation. Sure, users who do not inform themselves and simply rush into it and then regret their choice are at their own fault. They have to accept the consequences of their actions. However, that does not absolve Apple from its responsibility to provide options. If the software is known to have and cause issues, then Apple should at least warn people about this or offer a way to go back. By not doing so, it knowingly or even deliberately delivers a product that does not perform according to reasonable expectations. Saying that everyone who updates to iOS 7 and then complains is only themselves to blame is merely one part of the story.

We have to remember that Apple actively encourages people to upgrade. Either through direct notifications or indirectly by providing software updates only for iOS 7.

Yup, talking about proper ways of upgrading or anything else related to upgrading still takes away absolutely nothing from the value of being able to downgrade. The two are separate concepts, yet that seems to go completely over the heads of some.

Apple has warned that they will not sign iOS 6 when they launched iOS 7..... There has been plenty of warning about it....

The issue here is about knowing the fact that you won't be able to roll back, which means you would check many many times to be sure, that you do want to upgrade, as after that there will be no means to go back. Apple hasn't hidden the fact that they won't let you roll back, they have always said they wouldnt'.

Yes, Apple actively encourages people to upgrade, because it is in their interests. It is in the users interest to make sure that they upgrade only if they want to, as there is no going back after....

I do feel sorry for people who upgraded immediately without enough information on iOS 7 out there, and then having not liked it, they couldn't roll back. I think they were short changed and Apple should have left a longer window of opportunity for people to roll back. For their sake I hope they begin to like it, as time goes on...

But this particular user who we were discussing about has had plenty of opportunity to read upon iOS 7 and there has been enough bytes on the internet to gauge that some people are seriously dissatisfied with this iOS 7. He/she would have also known that if they didn't like it, they couldn't go back.

That is why I am curious, why did they download iOS 7....

So a company tells you we won't let you downgrade, if you upgrade with us. Correct?

People tell you its not a good upgrade, and if you are not happy with it and how it performs and looks, please don't upgrade. You have chance to read up on it and also you have a chance to play with it at your local store.

Now after reading and doing all this, you know you don't like iOS 7 and you know that you won't be able to downgrade.

Then why would you upgrade?

You have missed my point, as you are obviously arguing in favour of Apple again. The point is that by releasing software with flaws and preventing downgrades or factory resets, Apple is diminishing the user experience for some of its customers and is therefore part of the problem. It is besides the point that these users could have ventured into the web and read plenty of reviews, because Apple is equally responsible for the problem. Apple has not made this clear at all, this concept of signing firmware is probably unknown to most iOS users, in a time where many other electronic appliances can be restored to factory settings. This idea of virtually hardwired software is something Apple only introduced after the first versions of iOS.

Do not forget that especially Apple appeals to less-tech-savvy users who often do not know better. You are imposing a standard of prudency on customers that would fit more with Android users.

What goes over some people's head is that this is Apple's platform and these are their rules... Don't like their rules...? Go to another platform... If enough people shift and it pinches Apple they might change their rules... Since, a tiny vocal minority isn't going to make a difference to them they aren't changing...

You can't go into Saudi Arabia and say that you love to drink so I should be permitted... If you go to Saudi you either live by their rules or don't go there at all... You can't go to China and say I am used to a democracy so I want the same here... If you go to China you either live by their rules or don't go there at all...

OR

You get yourself into a high influential position to change their rules as you please... This simple thing goes above the heads of some...

I think I am catching onto their trick... When you ask them to choose another platform they argue that they weren't warned... When you tell them about the warning they talk about choice... When you tell them the choice is in several available platforms they come down to rights... It is just a round and round and meant to annoy us...

Voting with your wallet is not as easy as you imagine it. Smartphones, especially iPhones, are expensive and often tied to a two-year contract. In such a situation you cannot just go back, your phone needs to work for the good part of those two years. Similarly, you may have invested money on the ecosystem (e.g. apps). This is money you will never get back. Switching platforms is only an attractive solution at a given time, namely when you are affluent or when your contract ends. Until that time it is perfectly legitimate to expect that your device performs just as good as when you bought it, at least in terms of software. By letting those customers down, Apple risks scaring away otherwise loyal customers. That is something worth caring about.

I think if most of you guys were allowed to go back to 6.1.3 you would be disappointed! Performance wise maybe not but I believe apple will fix the issue for iPhone 4! They did fix it for iPhone 3GS with 6.1.3, before that the 3GS had real performance issues and the last updated saved it.

You would miss the fresh face of iOS 7, it looks really great and clean IMO
