looks like there's some pretty big discounts on amazon here in the UK, £100 off the base 21 inch, and over £100 off the higher spec 21 inch.
Also, only 2 left in stock for the 21, and 5 left in stock for the 27.

clutching at straws, but its something :)

There has been 2 left in stock on the base model for over 1.5 days meaning that no one in the uk has bought an iMac of amazon for that period. I bet resellers are really wishing apple released a new iMac more than us.

spoke too soon, just 1 left now!
you can tell you're desperate for an update when you're excited to see it say 'out of stock' on amazon...

If theirs going to be a refresh next week what are the signs that we should look out for come Monday ?

iMacs on sale?

Haha okii, I was thinking that their could be some sort of thing that happens when new hardware is released that tells everyone that their is definitely someone big coming up. Apart from an announcement.

There really isn't anything that tells you something definitely, but leaks and rumors are good signs.

I'd just buy a 2011 iMac and be over with it if there is nothing released with Mountain Lion. Why wait for around for a modest update if you really need a new machine. I upgraded to the 2011 for the 27" display and TB and that isn't going to change. USB 3 will be a unimportant update once Intel starts pushing Thunderbolt on the PC side and it becomes the new affordable standard.

There is always the chance that there won't be a 2012 iMac released like the Mac Pro.

I think the biggest reason people are waiting is due to the fact that May 2011 technology is pretty damn old and it's really stupid to pay full price for the iMac at this point. I doubt the actual specs in the new iMac are as crucial.

Don't do it.
this is a mistake.
period.
if the imac2011 cost 30% percent less I Can understand it.
also if you plan to change imac every 2 years or so, then you are right there isn't a big difference.
but if you plan to stay with that machine at least 5 years, you will regret this decision in the 4-5 years period.

It's hard to so heavily invest in somthing if you know their may be a update within a few weeks/months for the same price with better processors and other.

So let's try to quantify this then - what is it you think you will be able to do with the next (when there is one) iMac that you can't presently do with the 2011 version?

Personally I still expect to be able to perform all the tasks I currently do and more besides if I still have my current 2011 iMac in five years time.

Play new games in 2014 at native resolution and high settings.

Transfer data to/from my USB3 terabyte external without it being an overnight process.

Boot up and launch apps from an SSD without donating multiple appendanges to Apple's shareholders.

And, if the rumors are true, cut the frequency of my glare headaches by 75%.

What that guy said :)

Go check yourself: placing an order over a BTO high end 21.5" and choosing in-store pickup shows 2 Aug as availability date...this means no more hope for a spec bump?

It's because BTO are shipping directly from factories in China, they're not available at the stores.

Lost any hope for this spec bump. Sure, something bigger is going on in the backstage...

Tbh I'm all for this month , can't see retina iMac this year. With the retina MacBook pro release and also with rumours of an iPad mini and a new iPhone in the next quarter it wouldn't make sense for apple to overshadow these products with another retina mac this year. I think spec bump this month and retina iMac maybe second quarter of next year. Just speculation and food for thought . :)

And leaks an rumors have been close to none unfortunately. But this is not something new for the computers. Both laptops/Mac pro/iMacs have very few leaks before a release... And often have the leaks been false. iPads and phones have a lot more firm leaks - guess its because it's a younger business with smaller gadgets and more hype.

Stocks and availability is a more reliable source for the computers. Except currently it's been an out of date and low stock computer way longer than usual. So a new iMac can come out anything from tomorrow till never. I course never is unlikely...but a span of 3 months from tomorrow is likely, sadly :(

A non retina iMac doesn't mean they can't come out in October. We could just as well see an October spec bump. Mac mini had a looong wait a couple of years ago. A lot of people even speculated is was dead (like iMac and desktops now - which is BS! ;desktops won't be gone until a solution better for everyone replaces it) - once a new Mac mini finally came out, it wasn't even a big update, just a spec bump.... Then after that suddenly appke did a great redesign without any particular delay. So it's not as predictable as one would think.

What really gets me is the cost of the Thunder Bolt display - it's insane.

I know it's a high quality screen but for £899...! That is stupid. If it were £499, I'd get a laptop and a display, it's a no-brainer.

If they're going to neglect the iMac, at least they could make a decent priced monitor

I'm waiting till the 25th, if there's no new iMac I'm sorry to say that I will have to bite the bullet and get an old 27". It pisses me off and sours the experience but it's a tool for work and I need a new one.
There are plenty of non-Apple displays out there that are awesome. This is the least of my concerns if opting for MB + external display.

Yeah, but are there any 27" 2560x1440 LED IPS displays that are significantly cheaper than the Thunderbolt Display (and I'm asking seriously)? I know that there are tons of 27" 1920x1080 displays for dirt cheap, but that relatively low resolution wouldn't interest me.

Also, the TB display's built-in hub would be a pretty major selling point for me...especially if it gets upgraded to support USB 3.

FWIW I just checked Newegg and the cheapest 27" LED IPS 2560x1440 display is an HP ZR2740w for $680. The next cheapest LED IPS display is a Samsung S27B970D for $1200. There are other 27" 2560x1440 displays that are cheaper than the Samsung, but they either aren't IPS or don't have LED backlights.

Heck, even for the price of the cheapest HP, I'd spend an extra $170 and get a refurb Thunderbolt Display. Based on my (admittedly limited) research, it seems to me that the TB Display is actually a pretty damned good deal.
