Having finally decided to make the switch, I remember waiting for the iMacs to reach the 168 day average... 100 days later, this is killing me!
My bias thus firmly established, here is my opinion on why there
will be new iMacs at the WWDC:
Consider the events of recent months: The mac Pro recieves an octo-core update, the macBook receives an update, the release date for the iPhone is revealed, the macBook Pro is updated.
Now, let's think about that last one. If the "
Only pro machines are relevant to the WWDC" argument holds water, then
why didn't apple wait a week to let Steve announce it himself? Surely the "industry-first LED screen" alone is enough to warrant a special mention during his keynote?
Furthermore, hasn't the most popular rumour to date been that Steve would announce the release date/availability of the iPhone at the WWDC? And yet, a little over a week out, an ad shows up announcing it for him.
We already know that Leopard won't be released either, and so whilst it will be good to finally see the "secret features", do we really believe that this is all Steve will walk onto the stage with? 3 hours on 10 features (IIRC)?
So, we find ourselves heading into the WWDC with only the iMacs, mac minis and iPods waiting for an update.
The current theory on the iPod is that there won't be an update to it until after the iPhone come out, so as to avoid the chance of it caniballizing sales. The current (hopefully false!) rumour on the mac mini is that it's about to be canned.
Furthermore, we have an extensive delay that seems to confirm the persistent rumours of a substantial redesign that suggests that the update of the iMac might be more impressive than a speed bump and LED screen for the MacBook Pro and maybe - just maybe - something worthy of a Stevenote.
Plus, if he doesn't, I'll damn well send
19,000 pounds of oranges to his office...
