If they aren't going to update the hardware I think they really need to drop the (official) price. By quite a lot.
Because watching a movie got slower than with a newer processor?

I think Apple should open up the ATV for the app store... developers would help make that a revolutionary feature, like it was with the iPhone...
you are completely disregarding that some people use ATV to stream local content. I do all the time and the things mentioned above would definitely help with that. I have ATV3 and it has serious buffering issues with ripped blu rays (I have a good number). more flash storage would certainly help there. I suspect 802.11ac should speed up local streaming too. not sure about gigabit ethernet - that might really be unnecessary. I don't use ethernet with my ATV anyway because it has (a completely retarded IMO) limitation that with ethernet connection active you can not stream over WiFi and I want to be able to stream from different sources.
BBC iPlayer, please...! (and LoveFilm would be nice to have too)

Will this software update allow you to watch TV I the UK?
The freeview channels Like BBC and ITV?
Surely this is fundamental to the product or am I missing something blatantly obvious?
Think of it as the iPod touch 4. Most people are assuming the Apple TV eventually has an SDK released for developers. If that is the case, then updated internals would give people a better feeling about purchasing one for future upgradeability. I'm not buying one for this very reason. I don't want an iPod touch 4, that Applle had been selling up to very recently, which is way far behind the latest release, and is left in the dust.

Really understand that Apple doesnt need to upgrade the Apple TV. There really is no competition that can compare to how easy and good it works. All it need is just some software upgrade, and I'm happy!
Speak for yourself. I have 200Mbps and the option to go to 1000Mbps![]()
External storage capability please! Really miss stored content like the first generation unit had.
Can I ask a question?
I have an old 250GB Apple TV and one of my main uses is the photo screensaver. Not slide shows, just the screensaver.
I've been thinking about the new Apple TV, but I heard it doesn't display all of the photos you have on the screensaver. Something like the same 50 over and over again. Is this true? Or does it work just as well as the original ATV?
I was going to wait for a new model that you could hopefully sync around 60GB of photos with... No new ATV next week has me thinking about the current model again...
Apple will not be debuting a new version of its Apple TV at next week's iPhone event, reports AllThingsD.
And here I was hoping Apple will release an apple TV 4 with:
A6 or A7 dual core
gigabit ethernet port
802.11ac
16GB inbuilt ssd for new app store
usb 3.0 port for external hdd
Is this a joke? You really think someone other then Apple can claim to know with 100% certainty what Apple will or will not do?

But it's booooring.

Welcome to Apple's way of doing things. You like what we tell you to like. Any dissenting voice will be met with ridicule from the drones.
Why not AppleTV as a Mac OS App so you can watch TV on your laptop?
I just bought a Roku 3 box, and I gotta tell you.... it's superior to the AppleTV in almost every way. Like other review sites have said; there's really no point in buying an AppleTV instead of a new Roku unless you're really needing the "Airplay" feature to project from an iOS device or Mac wirelessly, or you have tons of paid content trapped in iTunes that you want to play to the TV.
With the Roku, you can add your own "channels" (apps, really) just by clicking on them in the online store, or even from the Roku iOS app (which doubles as a remote control for the Roku if you like). You get excellent apps like a Plex client for free, Pandora, Slacker radio, and much more. Many of the channels are just "niche" items (like one that features nothing but a series of guitar lessons a guy creates, and one that only shows exercise videos) -- but they're really cool to have available, and AppleTV lacks them.
You also have a small selection of games you can download for it, including game show titles like Jeopardy and You Don't Know Jack ... and Angry Birds comes with it free.
The included Roku remote can stream the audio to a headphone jack built right into it, so you can listen to shows without disturbing anyone else in the house, and it's motion sensitive (like a Wii controller) for the game titles.
And right now, Roku has them for $10 off, making them cheaper than the AppleTV. So as much as I like Apple products -- I ditched the AppleTV and doubt I'd go back unless Apple really steps up their game with them.
I have friends that have Roku's and they suck.
