First off, on naming:

It doesn't matter, let's get that out of the way. Second, look on the back of your iPhone 4, it just says iPhone! I think Apple will go the way of the everything else, and while they will have generational designations, there won't be anything else labeled. For example, you know your MacBook is 5th Gen, but Apple just calls it a MacBook, and it just says "MacBook". The future iPhones I think will be labeled much the same way.

Secondly, I agree with an above poster who mentioned iPhone beating android with 600MHz chip. My several year old PocketPC 2003 cellphone had a 667MHz CPU, it didn't have as much RAM, granted, but was basically faster than the original iPhone. The original iPhone still sold like CRAZY, it didn't have 3G, it's screen resolution and quality was average, and when the first few bazillion sold there WASN'T the massive app eco-system. The software is good and it's just a "cool" phone. To be honest, the majority of those consumers aren't really gonna compare specs.

There will be a new iPhone this summer:

1. If Verizon customers do not like they can go far.

2. Verizon customers are invited to wait for the next model.

3. It may or may not have the same appearance as the iPhone 4, simply because the 3G and 3G looked the same, this is not a model. 2G and 3G look totally different, lrn2statistics.

For some reason, I believe the OP. It's a typical Apple thing to do. They'll announce the white iphone 4, and instead make a big deal about the newest iteration of iOS to smokescreen the fact there is no iPhone 5. They will make a big deal over the magical new notifications in iOS, and spend the majority of the talk lauding their record profits.

Oh, and one more thing. Cook will announce the improved facetime, and he will do so over 3G between an AT&T and Verizon white iPhones with Steve Jobs who wishes he could be there in person to make this revolutionary and landmark announcement.

Give this man a dollar, he nailed it.

I give you both a face palm, you're stupid if you believe this.
Apple cannot allow their competition to gain anymore of the market. I understand it's frustrating for people who have bought the iPhone 4 and are in a contract, but honestly, don't be stupid about it.

The iPhone 4 is lacking many features necessary to make it a stable phone, and iOS upgrades will only slow it down. Look at the iPhone 3G with iOS 4.0 for example.
The iPhone 4 is definitely very powerful and will probably last longer than the iPhone 3G did. But iOS 5 will make use of the new hardware, by the time iOS 6 comes out the iPhone 4 will become the new iPhone 3G.

There will be an iPhone 5 this summer, and it will most probably have Dual Core processors along with the iPad 2. This feature alone blows the iPhone 4 out of the park, and it's normal since all the competitors are releasing Dual Core phones as well.

By stable, I mean in the sense that Apple would not have to upgrade it for over a year.

How can you possibly go by Apple's past record to try and say that this years iPhone will be a minor upgrade?

The order went...

iPhone - New
iPhone 3G - Major upgrade from the original iphone
iphone 3Gs - Update to 3G
iPhone 4 - Major upgrade from the iPhone 3Gs

If we are going by apples past record, i would expect a large update this year, with a minor update to 4G in 2012.

There will also be another new iphone this year because believe it or not, the USA is not the only country in the world and just because another carrier got the iPhone there, doesn't mean the whole rest of the world will miss out just to make sure the small percentage of Verizon iPhone owners don't cry and regret not waiting a few months.

Just my thoughts...

the 3g was a major upgrade over the 2g? it only added 3g and a new case. Nothing big from a performance pov

Most of you guys are wanting the iPhone 5 only to keep up with specs. Specs don't matter. iOS is still years ahead in smoothness and functionality. The iPhone camera is the best on the market despite it being 5mp. FaceTime is ahead of any other face2face software.

What do you guys want? 2010 iPhone 4 will be better than the next 2 years of android and windows phones. I have an EVO, trust me android is still years behind.

Apple should maximize profits and hold steady for another year with the iPhone 4. Then in 2012 hit hard with a new design, LTE, better camera, etc...

Maximizing profits means releasing a new iPhone. The mobile world is a high turnover market. If you don't have a new product every year, you start to look stale and people go elsewhere.

this thread is fail.

iPhone 5 coming in June/July as it did for the iPhone 3G/3GS/4

those that are hoping it doesn't come are the ones that do not have the means of acquiring the new iPhone5 due to cost, etc.

iPhone5 will come with the dual core A5 chip. (based on ARM's dual cortex A9 chipset).

this is nothing new.

I'm just going to post my next-generation iPhone predictions here so they are somewhere and I can come back and look at this post in June (;))

Code:
[B]iPhone 4S[/B]
CPU - Apple A5[I] (ARM Cortex-A9 clocked at 1.2GHz)[/I]
GPU - Apple A5 [I](POWERVR SGX 543)[/I]
Capacity - 16 GB or 64 GB flash drive
Memory - 512 MB [I](clocked at 1066MHz)[/I]
Display - 3.7" 960-by-640 Anti-reflective LED IPS Display
Camera - 0.3 MP Front / 8 MP Rear [I](dual LED flash)[/I]
Input - NFC chip

Basically the iPhone 4S may still look like the iPhone 4. There may be a conservative cleaning up of the iPhone 4 design including: antenna design matching iPhone 4 for Verizon. Removal of backside regulatory icons. Removal of the two bottom screws. Sleep/Wake button moved to top center. Screen size increased to 3.7-inches while keeping Retina moniker. As the bottom screws are removed the microphone and speaker ports become slightly wider.

Id mostly agree with this list, but rename it the 4GS and add HSPA+ radios for AT&T.

Now thats an interesting thought... AT&T could get the iPhone4 with HSPA+ this sumer and a better antenna... Then, the iPhone 5 could come out next year. That would actually make sense in a way.

Spot on... I guess I told you so should be in order :)

Don't you feel special. Remember, this isn't an actual Apple document so until it happens, I'm not going to believe it. We'll find out June 6th. Until then, try not to gloat so much.

My gut feeling is we will see an Iphone4s
maybe just a dual core this year.

Or nothing this year and the 5 next.

We all try to predict what Apple will do. But as we know they do as they see fit.

You know, alot of people have their upgrade eligible in the summer due to the iPhone, how many of them would wait another year to get an iPhone 5? If its delayed a month or two its no big deal, but how many will pay $200-$300 for a phone that's over a year old?

sorry, but can all you's americans remember that there are other countries on earth, not just america. please stop referring to the iphone as the "AT&T iPhone" and the "Verizon iPhone"...GSM & CDMA would be better :)

Verizon is the only CDMA iPhone carrier. the GSM iphone has AT&T in america. O2, Orange & Vodafone in just the UK. So stop thinking that just because AT&T's 4G network is rolling out, that Apple will release a 4G iPhone. AGAIN the world doesn't revolve around you americans. If Apple released a 4G iPhone that only america could use...what does the rest of the world do? stick with <iPhone 4? For example, here n the UK...4G isn't happening any time soon. It's still 3G here. I don't know when we'll get 4G. Apple can release a 4G iPhone all they want but they'll lose lots of $.

You guys over there dont matter anyway :D

If they don't release a new phone, they will at the very least ensure that iOS5 is optimized to run brilliantly on the existing hardware and has a lot of redefining features. If they do that, I still think they could get away with it despite better hardware on the market.

A lot of Android phones have great RAW specs, but a quick google search will show you that the software crashing and just being generally problematic is not uncommon. It just doesn't run as smoothly as iOS does.
