I agree. I'm in the minority but I don't want a 4" screen. A phone should be a certain size and every 4" screen phone I've ever held is too big.

IMO they will beef up the processor, add RAM, and make a white version. iPhone 4s.

Agreed. I hear everyone saying how the next iPhone absolutely needs a 4" screen, and I feel like I'm the only one who's happy with the current screen size. 3.7" might be nice, but I don't want the iPhone to become any bigger because of a huge screen.

I read somewhere that apple could always move the home button off of the screen and just extend the screen without having the whole phone have to be bigger. That would be good.

until the day comes noone knows with certainty.
but the winds are blowing that way..

Hence why i'm just buying the iPhone 4 on Verizon now. I'm eligible for an upgrade and I don't feel like waiting until next year. I will also be locked into unlimited data :D. And i'll be in perfect position to upgrade to the iPhone 6. Hopefully I won't be missing out on too much when the iPhone 5, 4HD, 4G or whatever you want to call it comes out.

Unless the new iPhone "X" doesn't have a 7" screen, dual core cpu's, 1TB storage, HD screen & multimedia slots everywhere, then forget it - I'm not buying it.

:p

I can see Apple delay the next iPhone launch especially with carriers (here in the US at least) are now in a 3g to LTE transition period. The real question is in 12 months period of time, what are the LTE networks here in the US are like?

I think Apple has 2 choices here, A) Make another 3g network iPhone, and then a LTE iPhone after that one, or B) launch the LTE iPhone at the time that LTE networks and customers are ready.

The problem with A, is that Apple will basically need to R&D 2 phones (with each has a GSM and CDMA version), that could mean Apple will need to spend a lot of time and resources on both phones, and if they do this in a crunch timeline to meet market's demand, that could means both phones may need to develop parallelly, which I don't believe Apple would do such R&D practice. If they develop one phone at a time, by the time the LTE iPhone is ready for market, it could be too late, others are likely to have a leg start, and I don't know if Apple willing to take such risk.

The problem with B, is that there could be a time gap between the current iPhone 4 and the LTE iPhone (we are in this time gap now maybe?), Apple could potentially lost some customers because people do like to upgrade their phones and got lock into contracts by the carriers.

I think the key for Apple to continue success in mobile phone business is launch the LTE iPhone at the right time that we see a customer go from 3g to LTE, and the carriers LTE network can handle LTE iPhone data demand. I honestly think that neither AT&T nor Verizon's LTE networks are ready for this yet at this moment.

So, depends on how confident does Apple has on the current iPhone 4, if Apple can extend the iPhone 4 life spam for a few more months, 1/2 year or 3/4 year even. That could align them nicely to an iPhone 4G (yes, I said it) launch. And iOS 5 could be the way that Apple’s plan to prolong iPhone 4's life spam.

Just my personal opinion...

Empty words. If you are already a IPhone user you will wait. Why would you jump to Android which will lock you in for 2 years.
Indeed, why jump to a better OS with a larger screen and LTE capability? Nobody would be stupid enough to do that!

If the iPhone 5 comes out in September and isn't LTE, then I'm getting an Android phone. I'm not getting stuck with 3G until it's almost 2014. If they release in June/July as usual without LTE, then they better bring something worthwhile to the table. I've got a lot of apps, but they can sit tight for two years. Or maybe I'll consider an iPad 3 next spring.

I'm not going to buy an iPhone this year if it's sporting last year's tech. That's why I didn't upgrade to the iPhone 4 in the first place.

What about the iphone 4 was last year's tech at the time? It had the fastest SoC in a phone at the time, it had the densest screen (and arguably one of the highest quality), it was the thinnest, had one of the best (if not the best) cameras on a phone, etc.

Actually, of all the '4G' technologies, it's clearly the fastest. Nothing overrated about it.

My guess is that he means the bandwidth possible through LTE is greater than even useful for a mobile device at this point in time.

Create a bandwidth, someone will find a use for it.

It's not just bandwidth (upload/download) but latency will be low as well.

The entire experience of using the internet and internet-connected services is going to change.

A lot.

Then don't buy it!!! Apple is not going to miss your money!!!! Somebody else will love the fact that they will get the iphone that you could have made them wait on when they sell out!!! It is not about last years tech!!! It is about user experince and that is what keeps people coming back to buy a iphone!!!

Yeah. That's why it's laughable that 3.5G masquerades as 4G.

Yeh, like AT&T, who will probably charge you an extra $15 a month to have it, plus slap the 2 GB per month limit on you too.

Now that verizon has the iPhone, they have to be competitive.

Being on the bleeding edge of new tech isn't always fun. It's expensive and in the end you just wind up disappointed as the stuff that comes out just after the newest thing always seems to get it better. This is a philosophy that I feel Apple has followed, hence the Edge -> 3G wait. I feel Apple will do the same thing here.

As much as the OP sounded a bit far fetched, the recent news in the past 48 hours does lend a little credence to his words. I for one bought my two iPhone 4s from VZW three weeks ago and couldn't be happier.

And if the 5 does come out and it's miles ahead (eventhough I don't feel it will be) I will buy it. With an upgrade or at full retail. It's only money and we make more. I have to have my gadgets.

Actually, it is all of the above. Latency is important when the top speed is constant. The speeds that people are enjoying now is temporary. More 4g phones will eventually lower those speeds due to congestion. Also, 4g will only be enjoyed in big markets. This maybe a good thing, because they would expand the 3g to be everywhere else? If 4g speed is around 10 or more during peak hours with millions of users, then that would be great. Doubt it, though. LTE is overrated, unless they can get the speed of 50 or more.

OP ... I also have heard the iPhone 5 will be delayed past this summer ... I am hoping Christmas would be probable
