Just my two cents, but in this market I don't think Apple would go 2 years between hardware updates. I could possibly get behind the belief that the next iPhone will come out in the fall, but I think it will come out this summer as it always does.

A lot of people use the recent Verizon launch as if it's some sort of proof or indication. Apple just makes the stuff, when/if/how/where the carriers handle it is a whole different ball game and Apple has no reason to give a damn about who just got the hardware. A lot of people who got on board with Verizon a couple months back did it knowing very well there is likely to be an update this summer.

In short, mo money mo money mo money.

For some reason, I believe the OP. It's a typical Apple thing to do. They'll announce the white iphone 4, and instead make a big deal about the newest iteration of iOS to smokescreen the fact there is no iPhone 5. They will make a big deal over the magical new notifications in iOS, and spend the majority of the talk lauding their record profits.

Oh, and one more thing. Cook will announce the improved facetime, and he will do so over 3G between an AT&T and Verizon white iPhones with Steve Jobs who wishes he could be there in person to make this revolutionary and landmark announcement.

Wow, I thought I was pushing the boundaries of reason for believing the OP and chiming in with my outlandish prediction :p

Hard to believe as it would seriously hurt the iPhone image, I won't wait until 2012 to use my upgrade, helllloooo Android..:(

this thread is fail.

iPhone 5 coming in June/July as it did for the iPhone 3G/3GS/4

those that are hoping it doesn't come are the ones that do not have the means of acquiring the new iPhone5 due to cost, etc.

iPhone5 will come with the dual core A5 chip. (based on ARM's dual cortex A9 chipset).

this is nothing new.

I love how everyone is such an expert. The only people who know for sure what Apple will or won't do are Apple, end of story. And where are these magical people who are "hoping" there's no new phone this year? Any other "facts" you care to share? Actually, please don't waste the kilobytes.

I refuse to believe that there won't be an iPhone 5 this year.
But iOS 5 coming out with iPhone 5 in September looks reasonable at this point.. hmm should i just get an iPhone 4 now? Decisions..

So no OP, guilty until proven innocent.

Apple runs the risk of 3GS users going to Android. I think if they don't release iPhone 5 this June, they should at least give a time frame of when. iOS 5 is probably not gonna cut it on an iPhone 3G or 3GS. If I were still using the 3GS, I would probably not upgrade to iPhone 4 now and locked in to a 2 year contract again.

Apple usually updates iPods around September. They could wait till then to unveil new iPhone. Plus there are the rumors of another iPad being released before the year is out. Apple likes throwing curve balls, so this would not surprise me at all.

Let's be realistic here... 3GS owners have already waited about two years. What's a few more months going to do? I HIGHLY doubt that they will switch to other devices. Apple 'MAY' release the iPhone 5 at a later date, and if they do it's most likely because they are working on a big update for iOS. Which we'll find out hopefully in June at the event. The 3GS is still a great device and I can't see why you wouldn't be happy owning one.

>Update: Japanese blog Macotakara reports that the fifth-generation iPhone will "probably" not ship until 2012 based on the current status of part production.
According to Chinese source, iPhone 5 will not probablly be shipped during 2011 because the parts manufacturing for iPhone 5 are not started.

>The site had previously offered relatively accurate information about the iPad 2. The site also reported earlier this month that the fifth-generation iPhone will adopt an aluminum back and a redesigned antenna.

>Update 2: Macotakara has clarified its original report to note that the fifth-generation iPhone is apparently not set to ship before the end of Apple's fiscal 2011, which occurs in late September 2011.

>Update 3: All Things Digital and Engadget are hearing similar claims that there will be no fifth-generation iPhone introduction at WWDC 2011.

I still have iPhone 3GS. I have been expecting iPhone 5 be released in June or July 2011. My 2 year contract is due to be expired on June 29, 2011, although I am eligible for an upgrade to iPhone 4 now.

Now the announcements above say that iPhone 5 will be released in September and shipped in early 2012. I am frustrated again.

Why would Apple be happy to postpone releasing and shipping to later dates? If Apple announces any release, they must be honest to tell truth in making their business good and success what they say and must not delay anything, but the releases of IOS and hardware must be on time to make their business good and success as what they would announce earlier.

Would Apple be happy to see people getting frustrated and angry and be happy to watch people to flock to PC Windows desktops and laptops, and other cell phones? If so, that's SO SAD!! :(

I don't know if my 2 year contract with AT&T to be expired in June 29th this year that would be continued or not because of iPhone 5 delaying to Sept or early 2012. I don't want iPhone 4 due to the antenna problem. Must I wait until then? If I am advised to go ahead to upgrade to iPhone 4, I don't want AT&T would require me to sign up for another 2 years which means I can't upgrade to iPhone 5 until Feb. 2013.

I was thinking about this, and I'm wondering if after all the insanity revolving the iPhone 4 that was found in a bar and outed by Gizmodo, that this might be some sort of dis-information by Apple?

If not, the iPhone 5 better be off the charts good if it's delayed, otherwise a lot of people will not be waiting around for it. Meaning it better have a 4" screen, some other enticing hardware surprises, and iOS5 better be totally re-vamped, along with an actual notification system and widgets.

It's going to be a very interesting release indeed. Expectations are so high now, everyone expects Apple to blow their socks off and really show the competition. If they come out with a 3.5" screen again and a mildly updated OS it will be a blood bath.

I'd really like them to knock one out of the park with the next iPhone. As you say 4" screen, updated internals, kickin' OS and a nice newly designed shell.

You know, alot of people have their upgrade eligible in the summer due to the iPhone, how many of them would wait another year to get an iPhone 5? If its delayed a month or two its no big deal, but how many will pay $200-$300 for a phone that's over a year old?

Why wait. I plan to sell my full price IP4 and get another subsidized IP4. I will pay full price for the IP5 when it finally arrives, and sell my second IP4 to cover some of the cost.

Empty words. If you are already a IPhone user you will wait. Why would you jump to Android which will lock you in for 2 years.

This would piss a lot of 3GS users off especially since this is their year for an upgrade since it was released two years ago, if Apple did this, I am sure there would be a lot of backlashing.

If Apple does not come out with a new iPhone this year, I am sure there will be a lot of people who exit the iPhone world, and I do not see Apple doing that because they need to keep up with all the other MFG's who are making new phones all the time.

Besides that, I know a a guy who's sisters boyfriend's cousin knows a a girl who said the world will end in 12-21-2012.

This..

There is a good chance its dis-information being thrown around to confuse competitors and lower the expectations of the general public.

No empty words.

I am one of them, and I know 3 others, which would give WP7 or Android a chance, if iP5 is delayed.

WHOAH!!! A whole 3 people that would leave?!?!?! OMG!!!

Please, while Apple might lose a few users, they'll most likely come running back. The smartphone market is very fluid at this point with users jumping back and forth between devices. But a majority of them are heavily invested in iOS and will most likely stay or come back due to that. Apple knows this.

Who says Apple is delaying? The fact that everyone assumes Apple will keep up the yearly pattern does not mean that Apple's plan all along was to continue that schedule. Perhaps Apple had always planned to move the iPhone release to the fall. Perhaps they planned to skip a year. Who knows? Certainly nobody in this forum (thats telling).

I'm sorry, but all of this doom and gloom is nonsense and Apple will do just fine and believe it or not, life will go on. We may see a iPhone release this summer, we may not. Either way it won't bother me in the slightest. If you have an iPhone 3G or 3Gs....wait to see if they announce one. If not, get an iPhone 4...it's a perfectly good iOS device.

Actually, the fluidity of the market is the reason to release the ip5 on the yearly schedule. Since so many people are eager to buy each year, not releasing a new iphone this year and waiting until next is kissing hundreds of millions of dollars or revenue by for no good reason. They could literally take the current iphone 4 and slap the A5 processor in it, no other changes, and sell them like hotcakes all over again. The only reason not to is if there are component shortages that would force them to compromise on their ipad 2 sales, for instance.

I don't understand why people seem to completely overlook/not consider the fact that maybe Apple will still release the iPhone 5 (or whatever it's called) around the same time as usual (end of June/first half of July), but not release iOS 5 until later in the year? Why isn't that a likely scenario? The iPad 1 was released first part of last year with the iOS 4 update not coming out for it until Fall. The iPad 2 was just released with iOS 4, but it's apparent that iOS 5 will more than likely be the OS coded specifically to take advantage of the new, much more powerful dual core CPU/GPU (there's not a lot of "real world" discernible difference in speed in stock applications between the iPad 1 and 2) in the iPad 2. I could see them very easily releasing the iPhone 5 in June/July with a new "point release" of iOS 4, and previewing iOS 5 at the same time, showing off how the new features will run on the new, speedier hardware (it's pretty apparent that the iPhone will get the same dual core CPU/GPU combo that the iPad just received).

GOOD! now my iphone 4 won't be outdated until 2012. but seriously iphone 4 is good enough that they don't need a iphone 5 until next year.
It has the best display, camara, & apps of all cellphones..you can't ask for anything more.

Most people think they "hit one out of the park" with the iPhone 4.

I agree. I'm in the minority but I don't want a 4" screen. A phone should be a certain size and every 4" screen phone I've ever held is too big.

IMO they will beef up the processor, add RAM, and make a white version. iPhone 4s.
