Nokia Unveils First 'Lumia' Phones Based on Windows Phone 7.5

It really is too bad that they did not continue with Meego. From the looks of the N9, it had the potential to be great. At least they have this design though

Nokia is going down, sadly. I have somewhere 1 (yes, one) share I bought as a resident to play around with stocks and to learn it. Didn't get me anywhere and now my hopes that this will be the one 0.00001% to get someone a majority is now out of the window as well (no pun intended).

You can't have sales people run companies. It leads to mediocre products. Its just about making a quick buck for them. I believe in building great products that generate profit so that we can build more great products.

Was it not mentioned in Steve's jobs book that ALL apple products are built in China in factories whose conditions are so bad people commit suicide to be noticed. And Apple did the right thing!! They installed nets! Problem solved.

And of course, Jobs was never about money, that's why he chose China! No cost savings there, just enriches everyone's lives!
 
Given that Windows 7 phones are not catching on with consumers, I'm thinking this weak introduction may be a huge failure. I'm surprised Nokia didn't hold out and try and beat everyone with specs and design to really come out swinging. It seems as if they just slapped some hardware and software together and said "let's go"!

Average does not work anymore... you have to excel if you want to be noticed. This seems average at best.
 
I still struggle to see why Nokia didn't just team up with Android in anyway. Windows mobile will fail, sorry but it's just not going to reach the popularity of Android.
 
Cyan and Magenta? Didn't anyone learn anything from the doodoo brown, olive drab and five year old princess pink disaster of the Zune? Then we get to the ultimate kiss of death which is Windows Phone.
 
I think the 800 looks real nice! People, it's ok to like this and the iPhone, it's not like you're cheating on your wife to actually like something else.:D

Apple phones are designed in Cupertino, but built in China, so I don't see the difference in a Apple fan's eye.

If you are going to dig on a company, perhaps you would want to look into the back story a bit. The phones are not built in Finland by Nokia as you hint, but neither are they built in Korea.

Compal Electronics was hired to manufacture these phones, a company out of Tiwan with a main manufacturing plant in china.

It's funny. I remember all the people defending iTunes only offering 720p video here. Now that Apple offers 1080p somewhere, 1080p is suddenly essential. Funny how that works.

Trouble is, companies are limited in what they can do without Apple getting all litigious on their arses!

Hopefully, this launch will proceed without recourse to lawyers. :rolleyes:
 
Just because the phone doesn't have the latest specs and doesn't wow the MACRUMORS fanbase doesn't mean there isn't a huge market for the phone. If it's priced right - it will sell.

As others have said - many people in North American (and even Europe) fail to consider the Asian markets where Nokia is HUGE.

Were the old iMacs and iBooks disasters? Think hard.

And since going with white and black means they're "copying" Apple, what exactly would make you happy?

That's because when your whole world is Apple - nothing matters unless Apple provides it apparently. It's the whole reality distortion field at its best.

Nice looking phones... for a girl.

the phone may be good, but based on previous phone experience, the OS will end up being abandoned by Microsoft. Expect one or maybe two OS updates and then no more.

Same thing has happened with my WinMo 6.5 phone. When I got it, it was 6.1. Only after users started to complaint, T-Mobile got the 6.5 upgrade, which was about 4 subversions before the latest version at that time, and was loaded with bugs.

Um, maybe because IT'S NOT A MAC (or iOS) RUMOR! This site obviously draws a large Android/Windows fanboi/Apple hater contingent. I'm sure many of you LOVE reading about the latest and greatest from Microsoft. But, really, there is NO possible argument for why this has any relevance to the purported purpose of this site (other than, as some have noted, generating click-thru revenue and page hits).

It's disgusting.

That's how pretty much everything Apple does works. MMS, Cut and Paste, Android notification, reminders, etc.......
