I find this more original than the actual Android... at least they "try" to innovate.

Innovate where? The 800 takes cues from many other phones, and to me looks like an old iPod Nano with a big screen. The 700 looks like 200 other phones that were sliders.

If you view the back of these devices, the lifted that from the HTC handsets.

They moved the direction of the metal badge, but other models of HTC have done that as well. The HTC tablet looks a lot like that on the back.

Innovative? Not IMHO.

You can't gain eyeballs with an also-ran phone on an also-ran phone OS. There is nothing about this phone or WP in general that makes it a better deal than Android or iOS devices. No OS features, no superior hardware, no superior design.

The iPad was the first viable entrant into a market Apple essentially re-created single-handedly. It was completely novel. So novel that most people didn't know what to make of it at first.

These phones from Nokia are late entrants (on the order of years, not months) into a saturated market of similar devices, many of which are being sold by firmly entrenched players.

Hey, you stopped trolling, started making sense, and your comments are worth something. You are absolutely RIGHT (no sarcasm). Nokia are late entrants, and there is little they can do even make a dent in the market. But I'm glad they are there, because I want an alternative to someone telling me what I can and cannot do with my phone.

Somewhere in Cupertino...

...Jony Ive just vomited.

These look like throwbacks, the 800 like a bloated curved glass iPod Nano.
I don't think Nokia should try to appeal to different segments of the market - they should build a flagship Windows Phone 7 and put all their R&D into a single device instead of spreading their efforts across a handful of subpar devices.

Blah, ripoff, blah, borrowed, blah.

The Lumia 800 looks beautiful, as did the N9. I was torn between waiting for this phone or getting the iPhone 4S. I decided to go with the 4S mainly because of the few shortcomings of the Windows Phone OS, but also because there are rumors that the Nokia phones won't show up in the States until next year.

As those rumors turned out to be true, I'm glad I stuck with the 4S.

But in 2 years... who knows?

How is this Apple related?

Nokia today announced the launch of its first two smartphones to be based on Microsoft's Windows Phone platform, marking a milestone in the collaboration between the two companies that will see Nokia shift away from its Symbian operating system and the transitional MeeGo platform. The shift comes as Nokia tries to rekindle interest in its phones amid a rapid rise in the popularity of Apple's iOS and Google's Android platforms.

The high-end Lumia 800, available in black, cyan and magenta, features a 3.7-inch 800x480 AMOLED screen and a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon processor, along with 16 GB of storage and an 8-megapixel camera. The Lumia 710 offers the same 3.7-inch screen and 1.4 GHz processor found in the Lumia 800, but contains only 8 GB of storage and a 5-megapixel camera. The device is available in black and white, with changeable back covers available in an assortment of colors. Both handsets run the latest Windows Phone 7.5 Mango operating system.

The Lumia 800 will initially launch in a number of European countries next month, with availability set to expand to several more Asian countries and Russia by the end of the year. The Lumia 710 will debut alongside the Lumia 800 in that device's Asian launch countries and Russia later this year, with both handsets set to expand to additional markets beginning early next year.

Nokia's plans for the United States remain unclear, as the company's press release notes only that it will be bringing a "portfolio of products" to the U.S. early next year. The company is so far only promoting the Lumia 710 on its U.S. site.

How is this an Apple related article?

Yuck... I don't care for that blue color... at all. The same goes for any colored smartphone. Apple's got it right: two colors, black and white. Bright colors just make the phone look like a child's toy. The giant blocky UI of WP7 doesn't help either.

If it doesn't have anything you want, why bother posting non stop?

There are more than 6 billion people on this planet, all these people have a choice. So why is it bad for companies to give people a choice? This is how economy grows, this is how competition drives innovation.

3 players, each pushing its' own limits, therefore making other two to innovate as well. Why are you so against WP7 and Microsoft giving people options? Just because you think it doesn't have anything unique to your taste, doesn't mean other people don't find something unique for their taste.

Oh good - you used your favorite expression.

Newsflash - it will still sell because not everyone wants or needs extra features. Just like the Kindle sells well. Maybe not as many as the iPad - but the Kindle sells because it's cheaper and because it does what it does very well.

Not everyone wants or needs the best specs. And quite frankly - not everyone in the WORLD (try and remember - we're talking globabally here) can afford one.

You are ABSOLUTELY right. The nokia DID copy the iphone in that it has a screen, and pixels, and colors. Steve Jobs invented those. Steve jobs also invented the question mark and toilet paper.

One would think MS could get their crap together when it comes to games.

Yeah because we all know how the XBOX division sucks right?

Seriously it's all on the game developers to create for the specific platforms (xbox, ps3, windows phone, iOS, android, etc)

You were pointing out 1080p camera. And many phones had the front facing camera before the iPhone... so again - when do specs matter and when don't they?

It matters to me when it is missing a feature I want.

- It would be hard to go from my 64gb iPhone to a device with only 16GB
- It would be hard to go to a lower resolution video when I like shooting in 1080
- I video chat with my kids and family a lot. I would miss having this feature

These are my opinions and are the things that are important to ME
