Was it not mentioned in Steve's jobs book that ALL apple products are built in China in factories whose conditions are so bad people commit suicide to be noticed. And Apple did the right thing!! They installed nets! Problem solved.

And of course, Jobs was never about money, that's why he chose China! No cost savings there, just enriches everyone's lives!

The suicide rate in those factories was lower than that of a typical Chinese village. Thus, statistically, it saved lives. That's good, not bad.

And Jobs tried multiple time building factories in the U.S., both for the Mac and NeXT. How many people bought the products made in those U.S. factories? Compared to today... a rounding error. How enriching!

Dude really? You actually like Windows Phone 7 over android and IOS 5? Even Ice cream sandwich is better than anything microsoft can come up with. Windows 8 is way over rated. I play with it everyday.

You are in a minority. But to each their own. Its all about the apps and IOS has the apps..

See with Windows Phone, it's not about the Apps at the core of the phone, and thats the point and what I like about it. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, SMS, IMs, checkins, etc...are all tightly woven into the OS. Search has bar code scanning built in, search has listening (like shazam) built in. To me, thats like 7 apps built right into the OS.

Sign me up I'm sick of going in and out of apps for the day to day core uses of a smartphone.

Still there... that is the whole point behind the Metro UI.
The partial text is to show that there is more to view. I like that approach instead of having arrows or dots telling me there's more to see.

The home screen never had the partial text.

I only came here to read the obsessive apple fanboyism;

Theres more hilarious comments in this thread, naturally.

And if the "fanboys" turned out to be correct?

Hell, they have a pretty good track record so far. Betting on Apple and against their competitors is a pretty safe bet these days, especially when the competitor is MS, in a segment where Apple has a star product.

As it stands at this point, there's a more than even chance this entire MS-Nokia WP7 enterprise is going to tank. All the "fanboys" doubts about it are not entirely misplaced.

WP7 has largely been ignored by consumers for a year now. What's going to change? Especially in light of a) iPhone-mania that seems to be unending, the world over, and b) the rapid proliferation of Android that already saturates the non-iphone segment of the market.

The problem isn't that these WP7 devices in and of themselves are bad. The problem is that consumers have already walked away from the platform (months ago, in fact.) Why should they give it *another* look when they have the Holy Grail (iPhone) of smartphones available (and in huge demand) and an ocean of Android devices to choose from? If MS is banking on appealing to those customers who are unhappy with Android's fragmentation, instability and lack of timely updates, Apple already has them covered.

This wouldn't really be an issue if the WP7 platform was brand new and untested. But that's the thing: it isn't. It's already part of the past and Nokia is trying to resurrect it by a) slapping their name on the phones and b) apparently increasing production. But to what result? Simply more of what consumers already don't want?

WP7 is already half-dead. The OS has had a year of public exposure and barely anyone cares about it. Changing the name on the hardware will make little, if any difference. It is late to a saturated market and offers nothing substantially more attractive than anyone else. It's just an adequate alternative.

Look for MS and Nokia (if the latter is still around) to do a "reset" of the platform or can it altogether within a year. MS zuned it, and this time they're taking an entire partner company down with them.

Mac OS market share: approx. 10%.

I havent seen the reality distortion field this intense since steve jobs....

boy will be boys, er, fanboys will be fanboys.

Thats the problem- Your conditioned to believe apps are ultimate.
I've had all iphones up until iphone 4, used every flagship android phone until the sensation.

Switched to the samsung focus and I noticed that I don't need apps. WP7 is tightly integrated to the point where apps are really secondary and my main focus is on being connected which is the main point of a mobile device.

Some apps are esential for what they bring to the table I agree. But 95% of the apps in the market are clones of something that your phone already handles well.

To do apps
calendar apps
messaging apps

Heck I bet you have 5 different apps that serve the same purpose.

I just can't jump on board with Windows Phone 7, does such a poor job of working with any software that is outside of MS.

Until they open up to Google search, Gmail, Google Docs and iCloud services, I'm not interested.

But if they brought MeeGo to the US, I'd be all over that device ASAP.

Correct about what? The only things you have ever presented are subjective opinions siding 100% of the time with Apple.

As a fanboy, youre free to say whatever you like, but when it comes to you trying to come off as a journalist, please spare the macrumors community of your biased drivel, I among others find it incredibly offensive to see such false comments made.

You are actually whats wrong with apple's fanbase since the ipod global success, constantly perpetuating the stereotype of mac users of having a very narrow train of thought.

That post you quoted was about Nokia and WP7, you're factoid is about a desktop OS.

Mac OS market share: approx. 10%.

Apple's penalty for "losing" the PC war in the 1990s is that they're now the most profitable PC maker in the world. Mac sales growth has outpaced the industry for well around 30 consecutive quarters now, if not more (even during a recession.) Apple owns the $1000+ category. And they are set to have another record quarter (already well into double-digit share in the US) selling expensive gear that runs an unlicensed, closed-platform OS, usually with a $1000 entry-fee. In fact, they are fresh off a record Mac quarter, as I'm sure you've noticed.

The numbers are just percentages, until you understand what they actually mean.

IMO he's one of many people that puts the word 'Cult' in the phrase 'Cult of Mac'.

The analogy stands. The point being made is that by applying the same standards across the board - Apple's OS "failed"

Now I don't think anyone believes it. But yet fantatics seem to change the rules to justify whatever stat they want.

Let me fix this for you.

The numbers are just percentages until I can manipulate them to prove my point no matter how convoluted I am.

No, it doesn't because the number would be relevant if Apple sold the OS to other vendors, that is not the case as they make money from the hardware, unlike MS and Google.

Whats wrong with bing? Built in office apps are superior to google docs. Skydrive gives 25gb for free and it automatically syncs photos and documents read/write access from the device.

The 99% fear/dislike change. They get stuck in their ways and never advance.

+ apple locks you in with their core services and is ok?

Holy **** the RDF is stronger in this thread.

So far.

Anything apple does- lock you in their eco-system etc is good.
But god forbid microsoft or any otehr company do it. It is evil.

720p was essential and 1080p was not but now that apple supports it- YOU CANT LIVE WITHOUT IT.

That's funny. Apple never seems to play well with anyone else, outside of iTunes on Windows. Are they going to open up iCloud to let MS interface with it? I'm sure that's coming. Apple locks you into their "ecosystem" to force you to stay. Somehow, that's a positive, but anyone else trying to lock you up is a negative.

T Apple locks you into their "ecosystem" to force you to stay. Somehow, that's a positive, but anyone else trying to lock you up is a negative.

Do you really need to wonder why?

Apple's ecosystem is fully fleshed out and refined, having put User Experience front and centre. That's why it's so successful, that's why iOS does so well, that's why it's a model for others, that's why iDevices take top spots in consumer satisfaction year after year. And so, naturally, consumers want to continue with Apple's "lock-in."

The iPhone 4S doesn't sell 4 million units in two days by accident.

It's vertical integration done right. Everyone knows this.

These aren't big mysteries.
