Nokia's plans for the United States remain unclear, as the company's press release notes only that it will be bringing a "portfolio of products" to the U.S. early next year. The company is so far only promoting the Lumia 710 on its U.S. site.

Nokia waits at least ONE QUARTER to even discuss bringing the phones to the US while Apple manages to get the iPhone to at least some European countries at the same time.

And one wonders why they are failing! (It was the same with the N95, N96, etc...6-12 months later they manage to get them to the US.)

While Nokia is a good partner for Microsoft, I find it hard to believe that Windows mobile is going to take off or be popular. Sure, people will have it, but it will be because they bought a random cell that happen to have it.

No lines to buy that product.

Um, maybe because IT'S NOT A MAC (or iOS) RUMOR! This site obviously draws a large Android/Windows fanboi/Apple hater contingent. I'm sure many of you LOVE reading about the latest and greatest from Microsoft. But, really, there is NO possible argument for why this has any relevance to the purported purpose of this site (other than, as some have noted, generating click-thru revenue and page hits).

It's disgusting.

What's "disgusting" is how much you seem to be taking it so personally. If you dislike it that much just move onto another thread so we can't see you whining.

Ever stop and think that maybe their core market for this phone is NOT the US. The US is NOT their biggest marketplace.

Was it not mentioned in Steve's jobs book that ALL apple products are built in China in factories whose conditions are so bad people commit suicide to be noticed. And Apple did the right thing!! They installed nets! Problem solved.

And of course, Jobs was never about money, that's why he chose China! No cost savings there, just enriches everyone's lives!

Plus the small fact Jobs IS a salesman! It was his main role at Apple, why the hell else did he get up on stage in front of thousands of journalests and use words such as 'gorgeous' 'revolutionary' his infamous reality field helped suck in a lot of people and generate sales!

Nice to see Nokia back in the game, it's been way too long since their last good phone.

Question for Steve Balmer: where is the keyboard on this thing? After all, the original iPhone was a failure because of that... Wasn't it?

Jobs and Ballmer: sure, both salesmen. Why not.

Except they are about as different as night and day.

One of them revolutionized the industry several times over with his ideas. The other is just confused.

Just because the phone doesn't have the latest specs and doesn't wow the MACRUMORS fanbase doesn't mean there isn't a huge market for the phone. If it's priced right - it will sell.

As others have said - many people in North American (and even Europe) fail to consider the Asian markets where Nokia is HUGE.

Yes, but every one knows it is a Nokia... What is the fun in that?

Surprisingly I know a good amount of WP users and they all love the OS.

hahaha, yeah lets leave Bill Gates out of it and the fact he and Microsoft revolutionised the entire planet with computers in practically ever single industry.....

Are you feeling hurt that MS and Nokia have made a device capable of stealing iPhone sales? I do hope so.

I only came here to read the obsessive apple fanboyism;

Fail in 3.. 2.. 1.

I smell another iPhone killer, ROFL.

I'm sorry but that GUI just looks confusing.

I wonder how much Nokia paid for this story.

Those phones look like cheap toys. Fail.

When Dell comes out with a new crappy laptop, does that make news on this site?

P.S. Nokia Fail

And my personal favourite, courtesy of Macrumors favourite objective member...

*drum roll*

WP7 is already half-dead.

There are more hilarious comments in this thread, naturally.

for the sake of your readers and supporters, remove this.

this isn't a general technology blog....we don't log into macrumors to hear about nokia and microsoft joint ventures...

very disappointing....and sadly reflective of the dwindling quality of the posts on the main page

Well at least they aren't doing pieces about heating thermostats like the other sites

The Chinese market is fast becoming Apple's playground.

Define fast. Define Apple's playground.

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/08/technology/08iht-phone08.html

That pretty much states that right now Nokia's biggest competition is from LOWER PRICED phones - not smartphones.

Additionally - look at this spread:

http://www.onlinemarketing-trends.com/2011/05/mobile-os-marketshare-in-asia-may-2011.html

So again - define fast. How "fast" is Apple going to take over in Asian Markets?

I just recently switched to the Windows Phone after using every iPhone since release up to and including the iPhone 4...It's a breath of fresh air in my opinion, very original, tightly integrated, and well thought out.

I actually switched from the iPhone to the Droid Bionic first...for exactly 40 days before absolutely hating Android, and now I have the HTC Trophy.

The fact that I went from a more established OS, dual core processor, 4G LTE, 1080p recording, front facing camera etc to the HTC Trophy and have never regretted leaving iOS or Android says a lot.

WP def has it's quirks but considering the whole platform is only a year old, I'm really excited about where it's heading.

WP7 is already half-dead. The OS has had a year of public exposure and barely anyone cares about it. Changing the name on the hardware will make little, if any difference. It is late to a saturated market and offers nothing substantially more attractive than anyone else. It's just an adequate alternative.

By your definition, the Macintosh is a failed product as well. How many years has Apple been working away on Mac, with marketshare numbers below the double digits? Did they ever catch up to Windows?

I never heard you about that, though.

Or does your logic only apply on all that is not Apple?

I can see why in general apple fans are disliked.

You guys are sucked in to the RDF and have no clue your gliding in it.
7back when apple only supported 720p- 1080p was a stupid/unnecessary option for mobile phones.

now apple supports it and you cant live without 1080p.

And any phone that comes out for some reason is a copy of the iphone.

Snots

Well apple failed miserably at mac OS. 1984- 2011 and only have market share lingering between 10-15%?
Epic failure according to your view.

Get of the RDF

Dude really? You actually like Windows Phone 7 over android and IOS 5? Even Ice cream sandwich is better than anything microsoft can come up with. Windows 8 is way over rated. I play with it everyday.

You are in a minority. But to each their own. Its all about the apps and IOS has the apps..
