I find pathetic how some people are bashing the OP because he has a different opinion and wasn't as blown away as some other people. Don't expect everyone to praise and idolize a product just bc it has an Apple behind it.

Completely agree. As someone mentioned before, having an iPhone 4 and 4S, I wasn't floored by the screen of the new iPad. It's way, way, way better than the iPad 2's, but that's to be expected. And that's the thing, I already knew what to expect and I LOVE it. Maybe some people's expectations were a little high.

The OP seems to just take issue with the yellow hue, which should go away after a week or two. My iPad doesn't have any yellow to it, thankfully.

If it's still yellow in 14 days, I'd start considering getting a replacement. It should be fine in that time, though, OP.

if your not blown away by the screen then you're just being unrealistic about what the retina display was going to be.

You aren't the only one who isn't blown away...

Here's comparing it to my excellent dell latitude with its WLED 1920x1080 (15.6") screen.

The blurriness on the laptop screen is due to focus.

Photo is lacking any serious detail since I took it with my Nexus S instead of a proper camera.

The screen in the back is the laptop (left of the photo), while the new ipad is on the right.

The truth is;

The blueish tint people seem to love is actually worse for image quality.

True calibrated displays ARE warm.

My iPhone 4S was warm and at first it was weird (my iPhone 4 was cold) but I know that warm is better. Bring up a picture of like a persons face.. the 'warm' iPad will display a much more accurate representation of the actual skin tone than the 'blue' iPhone 4s.

Either return it and hope for a cool screen (which any true videophile will tell you is blasphemous) or keep the warm screen and see what a (closely) calibrated screen SHOULD look like.

----------

Example;

The post ABOVE my first... the iPad looks better IMHO.

True color spectrum doesn't support a true white, theres no such thing. it should be off-white.

I woke up early to grab my new ipad. This is my first one. After powering it up, I have to say that I wasn't blown away by the display. I have 2 iPhone 4S, and I think both have better displays. The new iPad display looks kinda dingy to me. I had to turn the brightness all the way up before it looked decent. Compared to one of my 4S phones, it's much warmer. Are all iPads warmer in color temp then the 4S? I thought that since all screens were samsung this time there would be no variations.

Then you're blind.

This thing can beat high expectations... Thread starter isn't trying...

1. Take a picture with a dlsr camera.

2. Open photo and pinch to zoom.

Blown...away...

Nope it's you that is blinded by Apple-hype. I'd LOVE to put an Apple 2 and Apple 3 display in front of you at normal reading distances and hide the backs in a blind comparison test to see if you can REALLY tell the difference. I've already done this and most people got it WRONG.

Huh? That's a camera MP resolution thing, not DISPLAY resolution.

I'm sitting here with an iPad 1 (same display as 2) and iPad 3 and it's CLEARLY evident which is the iPad 3.. the clarity is INSTANTLY noticeable..

Also, as far as Camera MP.... you realize a higher resolution allows you to see more detail on the picture right??

Go play a blue ray on a SDTV and an HDTV and try and use your theory of independent resolution source not looking better on a higher res display. Both monitors will show the same output but it will look VASTLY better on the higher res display. "rollseyes"

Certainly you need a high quality picture, but this iPad displays it with immaculate detail. Try it side by side with an iPad 1 like I just did before replying again.

It's an apples and oranges comparison. You can't compare a picture taken on an iPad 2 with one taken on an iPad 3 and say the later looks better becuaes of the DISPLAY. Well, the main reason it looks better is because of the resolution of the CAMERA, not the display. This thread is about the DISPLAY. You would have to transfer the picture taken from the iPad 3 to the iPad 2, then compare the SAME picture. That's my point.

I hope you're not an ISF calibrator.
If you are, I feel sorry for those who've had their TV's calibrated by you.

White is not supposed to look sandy.
White should look white.
There should be no yellow hue/tint.

Whatever. I don't really do pictures on my iPad. In everyday use (web browsing, movies, texting, apps, etc), I've been sitting all day comparing the same things on both iPad 2 and iPad 3 and I serious cannot really tell the difference from about 12 inches away. My wife cannot either nor several friends. I'm not sure what everyone is seeing here. It sometimes looks marginally better, bt not $800 better nor "I'm blown away" better. You guys ar just fanboys. It's really not that noticeable.

Why. We all know the new iPad has cutting edge technology and HW. :p

The most interesting -- though perhaps unsurprising -- discovery is that Apple has apparently reused cameras from prior products for both the front and rear cameras on the new iPad. The rear camera, pictured above, appears to be the same 5 megapixel CMOS Image Sensor that was used in the iPhone 4.

So you don't really use the iPad for the screen resolution, duh, of course you'll be fine with iPad 2. Read reviews before dropping money on something next time.

He's not blind, and to be honest that's a pretty ignorant rude statement. He's just used to cool displays so the iPad3 looks off to him. Pretty normal really.

Run roh!!!

I never commented on Apple hype. Nice try, though.

Also, my new ipad is replacing my iPad 2. Good suggestion, though. So I placed them both in front of my wife and she said its "not even a close comparison."

I can definitely say that I much prefer the display on my iPad now than my iPhone. Both are gorgeous but the iPad is definitely as good or better.

I don't notice an overly yellowish tint at all on mine. I suppose you need to switch yours out

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS WHITE. YOU REALIZE THIS, RIGHT?? YOU CANT MAKE PURE WHITE WITH RBG SPECTRUM.

Displays are SUPPOSED TO BE warm.

....????

If you take a 12.1 MP DSL-R Picture and display it on both an iPad 2 & iPad 3 it WILL look much better on an iPad 3. That's not a debate it's a fact.

has nothing to do with either iPad's camera, unless your taking a photo that's EQUAL to or BELOW iPad 1 resolution it will ALWAYS look better on a higher resolution screen,

If you repeat it enough times, you'll start to believe it.
It's called subjective conditioning.
