Is it just me...

Or is Apple Newstravaganzas getting old and boring?
I am not impressed.
At all.
Zzzzzzz (snork)

Will you be able to stream any content from your MacBook to the AppleTV? If I have say an mkv, will my Macbook be able to stream the content to the AppleTV?

Doubt it. A good test is if iTunes can play it it will probably work.

Basically, if you have a library of videos on a RAID somewhere this device is not meant for you. It is meant for people who want netflix on their TV and be able to rent things off the iTunes store.

On a more serious note.... does anyone think the new iTunes logo is much uglier than the old one?????

well, considering the old iTunes icon was one of the ugliest EVER... no, no i don't.

putting a CD on the icon for an MP3 player... was pretty freaking stupid to begin with.

IMO, today's announcements were really lame.... perhaps as I grow older, I also grow tired of this "better than ever", "the most beautiful ever" lame efforts for selling us more of the same.... anyway.

Still waiting for the iLife & iWork updates.

Considering the original motto was "Rip. Mix. Burn." it wasn't that stupid. :p iTunes started as a way to play CDs and make mix CDs. I think it is more stupid that iTunes does way more than play music yet is called iTunes. They're kind of sol there since everyone would get confused if they changed the name.

Was that irony?

I may pick up a 8gig Nano. My 2G 2gig Nano (aka, running Ipod) is getting long in the tooth.

I was hoping for (but not expecting) an update to the the Macbook Air. Is it too much to ask for an Air with a Core i7 640UM and Geforce GT 320M?

A core i7 combined with the 320m chip is not possible. You can thank intel for that. Either they bring the new core processors with intel integrated gfx (which suck ;) ) or they bring the 320m with old core 2 duos, or they wait for bulldozer :D (which I think they are doing).

Come on... get competitive with Red Box! !!!
There's value in not having to drive to a Red Box to rent and then drive to a Red Box again to return. Bluray is $1.99 at Red Box. The time I would save by not having to go anywhere (two times for pickup and return) is worth $3 to me. But, for some people, the price point will be a deal breaker. That's cool. It's not meant to be for everyone.

Poor babies

Is this where all the spoiled brats will express their "disappointment" that their unrealistic fantasies were not fulfilled by Steve?

Wow, Apple breaks their own interface guidelines with the vertical close/min/mac buttons. (and of course will disallow apps that break their guildelines).

Social networking in iTunes? Pass.

Sadly, I'll eventually have to upgrade iTunes for basic functionality with some future hardware/iOS upgrade.

If I wanted a touch, the new one would be nice (don't really have a use for one). Shame about the low-res camera, but I imagine that's all that could fit in the thin case.

The shuffle and nano are so close in size, I wonder why they didn't drop the shuffle altogether. I don't suppose video was a big draw for the nano, so probably not a big deal it was dropped.

Actually, unlike some comments, I DO want my computer hooked up to my TV (and it is). The new Apple TV doesn't interest me (not that the older one did either). Seems to be made for people who prefer to consume only.

Everyone saying Apple should have done this or that, remember that when it comes to movies and TV they have to partner with the content producers, and some of them are not being cooperative. Pricing is a compromise between what Apple would like to do and what their partners allow them to do contractually. Some of your complaints should be directed at the networks, not Apple.

And Boing Boing had Xeni on hand to play with the new toys and she said this that I found interesting:

Xeni spent time with the new gear after the announcement, and called in with her findings. Firstly, an Apple spokesperson said that the new Nano and Apple TV don't use iOS, the operating system used on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. The lightweight tech gets custom software that still (in the Nano's case) incorporates multitouch.

So if this is accurate, Apple TV is NOT using iOS (nor is the Nano).

Hit the green traffic light in any iTunes version and tell me what orientation they are in. ;)

Talk about late to the party. Of course, it started a while ago. Haven't you been a member a while?

New Apple TV FAILS

1) Arrogance and stubborness = New :apple:tv
2) New :apple:tv = FAIL for most consumers
3) FAIL for most consumers means other products will be purchased to meet their needs

Boxee Box looks a better option if you have content on a NAS.

When is Boxee box shipping? Not until November, if it ships at all. Until it actually exists, it's not a better option. Apple TV will beat it by a month at least.

new tv was a FAIL. new ipod line is sexy but overall unimpressive other than the 64GB touch. the classic LIVES. :)

Love the constant negative attitudes, Apple could release a cure for cancer and people would bitch.

I agree. Come on guys, look at the competition compared to Apple. They are still years behind.

Thank You Apple for fixing the Bluetooth on my iPhone 4!

As I said before, this event can be summarized as follows:

1 - nice new iPods, especially the Touch and the Shuffle - the Classic is in the backburner, while the Nano seems like a downgrade because of videos;

2 - nice news about the iOS updates, especially for iPad;

3 - iTunes 10 is IRRELEVANT if it's all about social networking - I don't want more of that, thanks - for a major update like this Apple should have offered a LOT more, including interface tweaks and improved sorting/data management options;

4 - HORRIBLE ATV announcement, and absolutely useless for anyone (the majority) living outside the US. And NO, I don't want to keep my Mac awake just to stream content...a minimum of storage is always nice to have. This means my REAL Apple TV will continue to serve me well, probably with the ATV Flash add-on in the near future.

APPLE IS DEAD.
