I may pick up a 8gig Nano. My 2G 2gig Nano (aka, running Ipod) is getting long in the tooth.

I was hoping for (but not expecting) an update to the the Macbook Air. Is it too much to ask for an Air with a Core i7 640UM and Geforce GT 320M?

Yes, that is too much to ask for! :p

But seriously, if the Air had those specs I would actually consider buying one.

Interesting to read all of the complainers on this site.

1) If you want something that takes pictures/video and play games buy and Touch not a Nano. Why have overlapping technologies that will just confuse a majority of consumers?

2) Yes, the iPod Touch is less capable than the iPhone 4.. Keep in mind the iPhone 4 32GB is over $700 unsubsidized (in Canada) while the iPod touch 32GB is $299.

3) Who wants to play games on their Apple TV? Dont' we have things like xbox/playstation for these things? Apple's market here is everyday consumers who want an easy way to rent movies/content from the iTunes store with little hassle and low cost.

Apple is clearly doing something right if you look at their stock. Quit complaining and realize you don't have to buy Apple to solve all of your desires. You could for example buy an iPhone 4 for your apps/phone and buy a different vendors product for your TV/Gaming.

The iPod touch now outsells the nano. Video, games, etc. are now the province of the touch alone with the shuffle and nano focused only on music. How big a device or screen does one need for music alone? So the choices are more clear, music alone (with the classic still available for carrying around larger music libraries) or microcomputer/communications device?

The iPad fits an even different niche. Very good product differentiation and makes room for the 7 inch iPad likely coming with iOS 4.2.

Even cooler: it docks into the band, which contains a BT transmitter for stereo BT headphones. Or it snaps out for stand-alone use with headphones.

On a serious note, I remember when everyone was complaining that iPods didn't have radio. No one has said anything about the FM radio in the nano.

Maybe there'll be an iFixit style 'mod' for removing the clip and using the same fixing points to mount it on a strap.

OR just design a strap that using the original clip as a secure mount.

Or or or ....

The new Nano is the new hot sex. So they took out video, whatever. I'd bet the chief use of the Nano has been at gyms, in which case this is perfect.

That is the shuffle's market, now you have two devices with essentially the same market.

itunes 10

why would they have the button placement like that in iTunes? Wouldn't it be different than every other program on the OS? I like the shuffle, iTouch, and Apple TV refresh. I'm glad they care what people think. Like everyone else said, i really don't understand the iPod nano's market anymore. I get that it has more storage than the shuffle but that's the only thing going for it. Anyway, i wish i had a newer iTouch that could run AirPlay. I've been wanting something like that for along time.

For most of the complainers, it was never about FM radio. They couldn't have cared less, but if Apple leaves it out then OMG FAIL!!!! But as soon as Apple includes it, oh well, find some other feature they can whine about.

You still buying? I've also been waiting 3 years for this.. I've finally come to the sad reality that the iPod Touch will always be slightly behind the iPhone. (go figure lol)

So.. I could wait another two years, and maybe it will get a camera that the current iPhone 4 has, along with flash... But by then... That would already be behind the iPhone. It would be an endless cycle of waiting.. haha

As long as the iPod Touch is always thinner than iPhone its camera will always be behind it. To get more MP and higher quality in low light you need more space which the iPod Touch doesn't have. I wish it could take higher res photos but still is there anything else out on the market that can compare to the iPod Touch now?

-Awesome display
-720P video recording
-Apps
-Web browsing
-Video chat (Which also by the way, means iPT also gets a microphone finally)
-Music
-Video (Even NetFlix now)

Seriously, no other music player on the market can touch the iPod with a 20ft pole.

Man, I have not seen this presented yet in this way. So let's talk market segments:

Shuffle = Work Out Person, Homeless

Nano = My First MP3 Player, look a touch screen just like Mommy's!

iPod Touch = The Nintendo DS for Apple Fanlets + iTunes :D

iPhone = It's a computer away from my computer for adults, hence $$$$ + a phone

iPad = It's also my computer away from my computer but mainly to take to work and look cool.

You got most dead on (I laughed at the iPhone one cause that's exactly how I view my iPhone). I'd modify the nano to: workout person/iPod for car or motorcycle with capacity to carry my whole iTunes collection without having to just pick a few songs.

What the hell is wrong with some of you people?
20 positives and 40 negatives
This has to be one of the very best Apple events ever.
The new products are jaw dropingly amazing.
But all I read is whining and moaning about what each does not do for YOU!
Sometimes I am amazed at how bloody negative people can be...and this thread just demonstrates how bad that phenomenon is.
Well you can bet that regardless of the bitching here Apple will sell the hell out of these beautiful products to consumers that do appreciate the incredible, technology, design and sexiness of each of them.
OK..so now you can all flame me for being an Apple Fanboy...but I'm off to the store to download iTunes 10 and get my order in for an Apple TV and new Nano.
Simply brilliant stuff....Apple at their absolute best. Bravo Steve et al :D

Amen

Exactly. People think putting everything into all products is the key. That's not true. Why should they put a super high camera in the Touch, when it sells great without one at all?

A great product isn't a product that does everything, but does a few things very well. My car doesn't take good pictures either and it cost a lot more than a camera.

Hmmm, the touch was modeled after the Iphone 3g/3gs in Ios and appearance. I wonder why the New Ipod Touch didnt get the same look as Iphone 4?Hmmmm

so is the R&D of the iPod Touch (via the iPhone) I think the point was that this is an iPhone minus several expensive parts, plus nothing, and costing "more."

say it's subsidized all day, but the prices are wrong.

No, you are wrong. The $99 iPhone requires a 2 year contract. Apple gets a kickback for the contract.

The iPhone without contract pricing is the one to compare to the iPod touch. That brings the iPhone cost to $600 or so. The iPhone is not cheaper than the iPod Touch.

When Steve said - HDR on iPhone and iPad i was like WTF?
we will get an iPad with camera , yes?

You've got a very good point. I'm not complaining; I think this is by far the best media event in a while. Very happy with everything.

Apps would have helped me justify my purchase to my wife! Haha, I have every console and an Asus G73 for PC gaming. So I wasn't really interested in the games. I only wanted to play around with a few apps on my HDTV.

I guess I'll pick up the nano and wait for a watch add on. I have an iPhone 4 and 3G iPad so a touch would be overkill. I'm starting to feel like a freak with all these gadgets.

On a more serious note.... does anyone think the new iTunes logo is much uglier than the old one?????

The nano is cool, but no video? Really??

The screen looks to be the size of a postage stamp, so that kinda makes sense, but it's kind of a step backward.

I was hoping for an iPod classic update too, although I'm still rocking my 5th gen 'video' iPod.

The new AppleTV looks pretty neat though. Kinda looks like the Western Digital Mini:

Steve fails. Nano is pathetic. No point to a touch screen on a device that small. It can't even play video! Seriously. Apple TV fails too. What a giant leap backwards! He is totally off the mark in saying people don't want a computer for their TV. I've been saying this for a very long time, and here is what I think Apple TV needs to succeed...

Apple needs to create a one stop box for consumers to have in their living rooms (kind of what like the xbox hoped to be, but failed because its marketed only to gamers). At the moment we have a bunch of different boxes and remotes in our living rooms. What I want is a box that can do everything.

1) Download apps, and not just crappy iOS apps either. I'm talking full blown games to rival PS3 and 360.
2) Stream stuff wirelessly from my Mac iTunes libraries
3) Stream stuff wirelessly from the net
4) Play my blu-ray movies (yes blu-ray optical drive included please)
5) Full 1080p res

Minimizing functions (doing a few key things well) may work for things like the iPad where aesthetics and ergonomics are paramount, but for the Apple TV, well Steve needs to toss that logic. Less is NOT more with the Apple TV. People want it to do as much as it possibly can. At the moment there is no decent online store for TV apps, I dont want a PS3 AND an Apple TV. I just want an Apple Box!

That is the shuffle's market, now you have two devices with essentially the same market.

That's just not true, did you see all the other things the new nano offers? 16gb, clock, fitness application, FM radio.. Do you really think a camera is what set the shuffle and nano apart? I bet most people who had a camera on their nana played with it for about a week and moved on.
