Pretty funny.

Back on topic, does anybody see a Tablet coming?

I hope so but I do not know. There has been two patents filed by Apple one with Jonathan Ive and believe some others that I posted before and this one
http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ng_puts_apple_closer_to_touchscreen_macs.html

So the designers are sure as hell itching to do it. And we sure as hell want it. But Mr. Jobs is the big man on campus until he finally lets go and leaves or drops dead. Which ever comes first.

Would it be more to your liking if I used words like ur, bff, lol, and lmao? When was the last time you read a book? Sad...

I know that quote wasn't for me, but the letter you wrote made my eyes loop 3 times.

Those words (lol, lmao, etc) when used well and with moderation don't do any harm.
A book? Well, this isn't a library nor a romance movie script, it's a forum. So act like you're in one.

Ars Technica cites “grapevine” sources claiming that Macbook and iMac updates may not be launched via a big press event. This seems very plausible to Mac Predictions. After all, when Apple launched the first Intel Macbooks, which introduced a brand new enclosure, glossy screens and a built-in iSight camera, this was done with minimal fanfare and a simple press release in May 2006. It’s quite plausible that the new Macbook Pro will get a similar low-key launch, with Phil Shiller taking a few press enquires by telephone, and not much more. Dare we trot out that old Mac Rumors forum classic “new Macbook Pros on Tuesday”?

I agree, I believe the new Macs will not be launched at a big press event. How many other companies release computers at press events? But the point I wanted to make is that I can't remember the last time a Mac was launched at an actual Apple press event. Sure, the MacBook Air was released at Macworld but when's the last time Apple held their own event for Macs? I believe that the MacBook Air was only released at Macworld because people expect to be "wowed" at Macworld but when it comes to business as usual, I don't believe the new Macs will require an event. Plus, with the economy as it is, who want's to see a $1,000+ product make news headlines (unless you're like us and want to buy now)?

totally off tracks :D
Last time was, beside mwsf wich IS a Mac event, was in August 2007 for the Imacs.
Besides, usually, when Apple announces new computers, they have a special event

For the economic crisis...?
It won't affect that much when buying a laptop for many people.
economic crises don't equal end of the world (except for a few people:D)

Didn't they have an event called "something fun" or something like that and announce some iPod speaker dock and something else really insignificant?

Yes, but the last insignifcant event was called "Let's Rock" and was about the Nano returning to its old shape.

Also some new colors, but no Flower Power or Blue Dalmation this time around.

No it won't if anything they will flourish with out him. Granted he brought them back but now Apple can walk on their own two feet and at this point they would be better with out him. Apple has so much potential over the past two years it has become clear as day that they need to chuck him. Thanks for bringing back Apple Steve but don't let the door hit you on the way out.

No. Apple will be focusing on two expandable software platforms to the near future: The iPhone OS and the Mac OS X. A tablet would need something different.

Also, why introduce multitouch as a great thing this year, when you have a tablet around the corner. Last but not least tablets lack good input methods. Virtual keyboards (iPhone style) are quite sub-optimal for text input and pens have rather recently been ridiculed by teh Steve, if I recall correctly. To to put it more bluntly: Text input sucks on tablets. And Apple seems to know that and I think it reflects in recent designs. They made a conscious (and probably right) choice for the iPhone, for the sake of screen size and portability, but otherwise went for just multitouch touchpads on the notebooks.

I think the problem with text input is a major obstacle for Apple. More so than for Microsoft, by the way.

I think, Microsoft's handwriting recognition and speech recognition is way ahead (!) of Apple's. Especially Vista compared to Leopard. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple needed to do some catching up at some point. Not near-term but rather mid- or long-term. And that could be really, really costly.

I believe a forum is a place where you can openly discuss your ideas, which I did. The fact that you can't concentrate for the 2 minutes it takes to read what I wrote is, again, just sad. I'm not going to dumb down my comments for people like you. If you don't have the attention span to read my comments, then I have no desire to read your response, so it all works out.

Let's just hope Steve Jobs lets go a silent but deadly and releases the new stuff on the 14th anyway.

multi-touch trackpad on a notebook and a tablet are two completely different things.

You can add a keyboard onto the tablet it is not like you would need to use the touch tablet.

Wasn't Steve's pen statement geared towards handhelds like the iphone and ipod touch not towards full sized tablets?

Apple has a huge interest in tablets. Like I said they have filed patents and they have been working on tweaking OSX to work with the tablet.

Apple needs a new product seriously everybody knows this and Apple knows this. I believe that new product will be a Tablet. They have to release something new at Macworld. They just have to!

with all this secrecy on apple's part, it reminds me of the distribution methods seen in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I've been holding off for a MacBook for a looooooooooong time!

That last time I bought a desktop computer was well... 1995! Back in the old days of Windows 3.1. As soon as Windows 95 was released, I started buiding my own desktop computers. It sort of become a hobby of mine and I spent thousands of dollars on it every two or so years... with each computer costing around $800ish to build. I must have built over 100 PCs in the last 10 years. I never look at a Mac because Mac software are so expensive compared to windows software. Therefore, I stayed away from Apple as much as possible. I didn't even give Apple a thought until I finally decide to get an iPod Photo back in 2005.

Being a long time user of Windows, I didn't really mind the crashes... the worst being windows ME.. YUCK! But XP served me quite well: no crashes whatsoever! Moving to Vista, the ONLY problem I encountered was not a lot of my hardware are incompatible with the new Windows platform. The other turn off was that the 32 bit version only takes advantage of about 3 gigs of RAM. That's sad. Anyway, I don't see any problem as a normal user of Windows Vista. Perhaps it was my spending pattern. I don't get the latest and greatest and I NEVER get a revision 1. I didn't get Windows Vista until SP1 came out.

I currently own 2 desktops what I built myself, 3 laptops, and a tablet PC. PC user all the way as you can see.

Anyway, I decided recently that I'd give Apple a try. I got my cash and everything and was going to get a MacBook AND an iMac. Hearing that the Aluminum one will be available for the MacBook, I decided to wait it out. I could've gotten one with the iPod Touch promotion, but I decided that if there's a price drop and an aluminum case, I'll just wait it out. I'm out of patience waiting for this thing to arrive and I'm not going to settle for the current MB without the promotion... UGH... when is Apple going to satisfy me?

PS: My last experience with a Mac was back in the Macintosh days when I was in a classroom that uses only Macs. Is Apple going to push me back to continuing to use my money on PCs? If I don't see one next week... I'll just... stop dreaming of a MacBook and spend my money on upgrading my current many PC laptops and desktops. I'm looking at getting more RAM for my HP TX2500z tablet PC. Apple... I can't hold it anymore. Please release a new MB before I spend my MB money on upgrading my many PCs.

PPS: Don't be a windows PC hater!

Oh how I am tempted to go and buy a refurb MBA or MBP. Don't do it Vic, don't do it!

I will chant for you ;):
Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it! Do not do it!

Just hang in there. You can wait it out. :)

with all this secrecy on apple's part, it reminds me of the distribution methods seen in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I just want a roadmap. Please apple, this waiting is killing me. I can't handle it anymore. I'm not asking for an exact date, all I ask is for a quarter or even half-year time period. I don't want to buy a macbook only to have them updated 15 days later.

And yes I know, if I really need it, I should go buy it. But guess what, I don't need it, I just really really want it.

Unfortunately Apple has us all by the gonads and they know it. They can do whatever they want and we have no option but to oblige because there really is no relative competition.

If I were Steve, I'd keep us all in suspense just like this. It's like playing with a bunch of cats. Sheesh folks! The new macbooks will arrive when they're ready. Until then, most of us will survive with whatever computer technology we have available to us. :D
