No, they are not. I'd say they pretty related to each other. With one finger there isn't much difference between mouse and tablet input. The key is that you can make quick gestures and manipulate objects with more than one finger (hence "multitouch"). Both multitouch touchpads and tablet allow this. Besides that, that tablet has only one major advantage (that I can see): You can make notes and draw on it with a stylus. But with this comes a great drawback for typed text input.multi-touch trackpad on a notebook and a tablet are two completely different things.
Other manufacturers do this. Do you see Apple taking the same route? You can add a keyboard onto the tablet
Apple has all sorts of interests and research and patenting going on. Many of them have never seen the light of day. Some get developed with great progress... and still never end up on store shelves. You know how Steve and his employees talk about how proud they are of some unreleased products. I've heard this first-hand a few days ago. And I'd bet that a tablet was among those things in the last few years.Apple has a huge interest in tablets. Like I said they have filed patents and they have been working on tweaking OSX to work with the tablet.
I don't think so. They don't need some totally new product. They don't need a tablet. Nobody uses tablets anyway (OK, I have learned to be more precise in this thread: Very few people use tablets anyway). Granted, I haven't tried OS X' text recognition since 10.5.2 came out. I will check it out tomorrow. But I see little indication, even little hope for a tablet. The OS isn't ready. Neither are customers. Name the last time Apple really came up with a "game changer" in Mac portables...Apple needs a new product seriously everybody knows this and Apple knows this.
They have to release something new at Macworld. They just have to!
It bothers me that some people treat this like a game and say, "It's just a rumour, pay it no mind!"
To people who are looking to purchase a new computer, this is not a game.
haha thank you. I'm tired of ppl. saying they will come out when they come out. I need a new computer b/c i have to type this on my ipod touch. I need to know when i can stop using this to surf the web all the time like i do...my eyes eventually hurtIt bothers me that some people treat this like a game and say, "It's just a rumour, pay it no mind!"

And yes I know, if I really need it, I should go buy it. But guess what, I don't need it, I just really really want it.
Unfortunately Apple has us all by the gonads and they know it. They can do whatever they want and we have no option but to oblige because there really is no relative competition.
Again, you don't "need" a new computer. You will not die if you do not have one. Obviously, you are not living in poverty with your ipod touch. What do you want people to say? The only true statement that can be made is "they will come out when they come out." Anything else is rumor. Would you rather someone tell you they're definitely coming out tomorrow every day and then be disappointed every day when they don't come out? Either go buy a computer right now, or wait. You have the same options as everyone else. You might think you need to know when you can stop using your ipod touch to surf the web, but you're just not going to. Simple as that. I don't know why all these people keep acting like it's their god given right to know when the new computers are coming out.

If I were Steve, I'd keep us all in suspense just like this. It's like playing with a bunch of cats. Sheesh folks! The new macbooks will arrive when they're ready. Until then, most of us will survive with whatever computer technology we have available to us.![]()
why do you come on these forums
you have the attitude everybody here hate![]()
But, that's the truth. It is just a rumor. Apple has no obligation to tell you when they are going to release new products. You have to make a decision yourself. If you can wait, then wait. If you can't, then get the current generation or get a PC and don't worry about it anymore. It sucks, but that's just the way it is. After all, it is just a computer. Your decision whether to buy now or later isn't life or death. I am looking to buy a new computer, but I'm not going to buy the current technology when I know something new is going to come out "sometime" soon.
Drink some relaxing tea.

Macs are not "unique" status any more.Hmmm, I thought that the point of the Apple "1984" ad and "Think Differently" and the other stuff was to avoid being one of the mindless drones.
Guess not, anymore....
Also, ya gotta love all those "professionals" with their aluminium Apple Pros.... Nice Ivy League status symbols - daddy has lots of money.
But, at least they have taste. I don't see a single tacky white plastic Apple book in the room![]()
I'll agree that someone who doesn't know anything about technology might not know that they are MB, MBP and MBA boxes but I'm pretty sure he could at least recognize product from Apple if he is in the business. And the fact that the boxes are being held and not sent out immediately may tell you something. The point I was trying to make was that Psiachris doesn't have a track record of posting BS so there's no reason to call BS on him
Macs are not "unique" status any more.
Time changed fast.
Regardless of whether or not they are unique, they are still the best in my eyes. I have been a Mac user since before they were "cool" (try 1st gen iBook G4, my first mac when I was 14). That 1.25 Ghz G4 and 756MB RAM was the STUFF!
I will always use a Mac, given Apple continues to innovate.

Why is this relevant?
Mr. High and Mighty,
You really think you're superior to me or any other "newbie" on this forum just because you've been here longer? Give me a break.
Because many of us have been around the business long enough to believe "in using the right tool for the job".
I have Linux systems, Solaris systems, AIX systems, Windows XP/Vista/2K/2k3/2K8 systems, NetApp, EMC, and even a pair of Apple Xserve RAID systems.
No religion, keep the religion at home...

Anyways. I just received an email back from my local Apple "RETAILER" (not apple store) and the owner has reason to believe there will be new MacBooks on the 14th, but also says this is speculation.
I forsee a silent introduction, not an event.
