I see, well my contract is ending in January, so I'll definitely enquire about this. Unfortunately o2's emailing service seems to be down. I'll probably go to an o2 store.

Same... Do we have to wait (in my case) till the 16th so it's the one month notice or could I phone up and and get moved over?

Well that's exactly the same as me, my contract ends on the 16th Jan. I'm sure o2 said that we can upgrade a month in advance, but I would definitely contact o2 first just to confirm.

Technically, we aren't leaving, so it's not 30 days notice, its just change of plan. Hmmmm

30 days in advance, you can change...

For example, my contract for iPhone 3G ends on 11th January 2010. However, with the 30 days notice thing, you phone in on 11th December, a few days time for me, and...

...you can get to retentions by asking the 'normal' customer agent you want a PAC code, once through to retentions, you tell them you prefer to stay if they can offer you a better deal than what you are on, eg: the simplicity tariff.

Although you won't move onto the new tariff until your contract expiry date of: 11th January (my example), you can organise the change of tariff 30 days in advance.

They will start you on it immediately from next billing. My contract was due to be up in January but rang them and asked if it could be done immediately as thinking of moving and so from 10th December I am on the new tariff at £20.00 a month, without having to tie in and also with increased minutes. Had to hang on the phone for ages to get through, so I think quite a few are trying it.

not true... my contract was up on 11th january 2010 too, i called o2 a few days ago to get transferred to iphone simplicity 20 and they have done it already. if you call too early they can still set it up anyway to automatically move to the simplicity tariff

Ok, I stand corrected, they are not doing what they are usually supposed/or expected to do then. At least it works, that's the main thing.

I just called o2 CS, my contract is up on the 11th of Jan so upgradable from the 11 of Dec, I advised I wanted to update to the simplicty for iphone 20 deal, the CS rep told me as I was early she needed authorisation from her boss, 2 minutes later she said it went through and would take 24 hours, but after about an hour I was upgraded, all myO2 accounts are showing the new tarrif.

cheers.

I called 02 today and was told I can't be updated till my upgrade date which is on Saturday because the system wouldn't allow it???:rolleyes:
now I will be charged the full £35 on my next bill which is on Thursday and will be refunded next time, seems a lot of rubbish if other people can be moved to the new tariff straight away

I have just switched from the £35 a month tarrif to the £20 iphone simplicity. Intrigued by comments that people are getting many more texts than I was offered (600 mins and 500 texts) How are folk getting the extra texts?

FWIW I phoned vodafone and orange to look for one of their sim only deals and they tried to improve on their standard deals but none came close to the O2 one.

I didnt phone 3 or T-mobile as I have been there before and they just dont work where I am !

I like that it is a rolling monthly so if a new iphone is launched next year I can jump on that without having to wait.

Why can't we get deals like this over here in the US? We're stuck with AT&T and T-Mobile!

Actually, for a change we are not envious of our American friends.

You usually get the tech gear first, the best deals, black friday (not just Apple, everywhere) etc

But it's nice to have such a great iPhone tariff all to ourselves :D

Did you go to retentions? If not, dial 2302 from your phone, then option 2, 2, 1, and finally 4

Make sure it's retentions.

Ask to speak to a manager if no luck.

Sorted!

3 iPhones in the family (2 on contracts with minimum term expiring on 11.01.10, and one PAYG handset using Simplicity since December last year) all transferred to the new Simplicity 20 iPhone Tariff, each with 600 minutes, 1200 texts, free internet and wi-fi etc!

Fantastic value for money. Well done O2!

Thank you all for bringing this new deal to my attention. It really does pay to keep abreast of things in MacRumors. :)

Prior to gettng my 3gs I moved onto the simplicity contract fora few months with my 2g.

All that was missing was the visual voicemail and access to the cloud hotspots.

It really was painless. No new sim and it was on a 30 day rolling contract. All very good.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

Well I phoned 02 yesterday and today to be told there systems are still down and they are unable to change my account. My bill is due tomorrow so looks like I'll be charged the £35 this month. What a shambles !!

I tried to change my Simplicity tariff to the iPhone Simplicity tariff and the rep I spoke to said it couldn't be done - it's only for people who are coming out of 18 or 24 month iPhone contracts.

They have done it for several people in this thread.

I suggest that you try again (and again if necessary) until you get a Customer Services rep who knows their stuff.

Good luck. :)

my contract ends on the 16th jan and called o2 to switch. Apparently I can switch on the 17th dec, so can't wait!

I just tired this - the person who answered answered with the word "All our systems are down please call back."

Quick conversation - the upshot being that all systems have been down for a couple of days (hard to believe!)...

Anyone else been successful today?
