yep. There is a fair usage policy but I use data a lot and have never been called on it or given charges. To my mind it basically is unlimited.

Edit: not always 3G though!

yep, as in, yes to my whole question? ill be able to get it even though i didnt previously have a contract? i was skeptical about getting an iphone cause of my current tarriff but hot damn that sounds good :)
and ah yeah, only 3g in certain areas etc :)
i live in quite an industrial/built up place so should be okay i hopee, always getting a 3g signal with my current phone on o2 :)

another switcher to the £20 30 day contract here! told the lady i'm waiting 6 months for the new iphone to roll out and get that on there 18 month contract

or maybe just buy the dam thing outright next time and stick to the Simplicity tariff and upgrade on my own dime;)

how to upgrade if you have a 02 simplicity from carphone warehouse

I purchased an IPhone from an Apple store last weekend and I am currently on a O2 Simplicity contract, and this would be ideal for me, but since I have taken the O2 contract from Carphone warehouse, everytime I call O2, they keep pushing me back to CW and CW does not know anything about this new deal. I have been trying to call for the last 3 or 4 days but no luck at all and am going back and forth in circles. All that I have managed is to upgrade my existing simplicity with unlimited 3G for the same price.

does any one have idea on how to get the Iphone simplicity tariff, whom should I call or what number should I call.

help please :)

If it's a 30 day (1 month contract) then your safe to call O2, on 2302 from your phone, or 0870 607 2302. DO NOT MENTION where you bought the phone from, it's irrelevant. Don't mention the dirty word: Carphone Warwhouse either. The dummies gets confused if you say anything which does not register in their robotic heads.

Go through all the options on the phone, until you get to retentions (in other words, you are leaving O2). Only retentions will be able to offer you the tariff, no other robot is likely to know about it, or can offer it.

You of course can only do this IF you are on a 30 day contract, any longer than that, you need to wait until your contract is up (final 30 days of the contract).

The tarrif you want is called: iphone 20. Its £20 per month, give or take a few pence because of VAT changes. You get 600 minutes, 1200 texts, any network, anytime. Plus, and including, unlimted wifi and internet (data).

Let us know how you get on.

Tip: phone the robots before 5pm, they seem to get into a pickle if too many people call, so can't handle questions/calls.

Sorry Nazuk, but you`re wrong. ;)

i was with CPW a couple of years ago, and had a nightmare cancelling the contract (cos they are pants to deal with), at the time I called O2 and they just pushed me back to CPW...basically, you are using the O2 network, but CPW buy the airtime off O2, and so your contract is with CPW, not O2.

Sorry danski69, but you are so wrong... My housemate is also with CPW, he purchased from actual CPW store, he switched yesterday, tariff shows change last night on his o2 website account, no problems, no hassle whatsoever. The O2 advisor confirmed everything over the telephone, I could hear on his speakerphone, cos' I was in the same room.

...Unless of course CPW offer two different contracts, CPW and O2. My housemate got his on launch day, I queud at O2, he queued at CPW.

Nice, I switched over.

Has anybody tried merging calls (conference calling)?? When I was on Online Simplicity 20 it did not work.

Now I'm on iPhone Simplicity 20 but I haven't tried call merging yet.

Visual Voicemail works and the APN for internet changes from mobile.o2.co.uk to idata.o2.co.uk

VV is not working for me - stopped last night when I switched over. Is there a setting to change to get it to work?

Tip 1: Yes, read the entire thread. It's only three pages.

Tip 2: mroogle it

Thanks for that. Re-start your iPhone may have taken less your time.

Have you changed to the iPhone Simplicity from a standard iPhone monthly contract?

If so then you don't have to change any settings.

So - it required a re-start and all good - thanks.

This is what I did when the 3GS was released and I'll be doing the same next year. Selling my current handset left me with a very small cost to upgrade to the new handset without starting a new contract.

This was/is only true of non iPhone contracts at CPW, all iPhone contracts on o2 are handled by o2.

THIS IS WHAT IPHONE NEEDS, a texter contract not stupid minutes, i dont use minutes i want texts

If anyone's interested in going for this tariff. Its MUCH quicker to phone upgrades, wait for them to admit that they are useless and ask to be put through to retentions. You'll get put straight through to a human (rather than waiting on hold for 45 mins).

All in all the process took 3 minutes and I was instantly transferred to the new contract.

I rang up friday to change over and was put through to retentions and got put on the new tariff. Today i've checked my tariff online and it just says "online simplicity 20".

No mention of the iphone bit. have I been put on the wrong tariff??

So Far, So Good!

Just to add my own experience,

20 mins on hold for retentions, but when I explained that my 18 month iPhone contract was due for renewal in January and that I wanted to look at my options and if I could have the iPhone Simplicity 20 contract, the CS man checked my records for about 15 seconds then said because I was in my last month, he could change me to iPhone Simplicity within 24 hours.

He told me that this gave me 600 mins talk and 500 texts, but when I asked him to confirm later what it gave me he said the same, but then "Oh, my mistake, it's 600 mins talk and 1200 texts".

And I did get him to confirm this was the iPhone Simplicity contract.

So, plain sailing so far and we'll see what's happened by this time tomorrow. Just need O2 to get their data network working across the UK again...

Bunch of muppets aren't they?

What is it with Mobile phone companies and their customer service experience, and lack of communication, and empathy towards the customer?

...actually, don't answer that one, we don't have time in my lifetime to explore :D

Have to say I've had previously very impressive experience of O2 CS - when I got my first iPhone, to cut a long story short, because of the incompetence of Carphone Warehouse my old number got PAC'd to the wrong account and my new iPhone account got cancelled after 24 hours. However, O2 bent over backwards to put things right, with a CS person phoning me nearly hourly with updates, even though I missed many of their calls because I was at Alton Towers for the day I didn't hear or couldn't reach my phone, if they couldn't get hold of me they just kept trying.

I know that's not everyone's experience, but I think it's only fair to praise as well as damn.

Anyway, just had this e-mail:
