Have to say I've had previously very impressive experience of O2 CS - when I got my first iPhone, to cut a long story short, because of the incompetence of Carphone Warehouse my old number got PAC'd to the wrong account and my new iPhone account got cancelled after 24 hours. However, O2 bent over backwards to put things right, with a CS person phoning me nearly hourly with updates, even though I missed many of their calls because I was at Alton Towers for the day I didn't hear or couldn't reach my phone, if they couldn't get hold of me they just kept trying.

I know that's not everyone's experience, but I think it's only fair to praise as well as damn......edited

Yes I know they can be little angels, and I am always first to praise any company that gets it right, and always at least tries.

But my concern is, like many people - why do mobile phones companies fail to get it right most of the time? They seems to be in a category that usually, on the whole describes bad customer service.

Why can't they be like supermarkets? You exchange, refund, or even clothes stores.... where, it's usually no questions asked.

And yes I know they are there to make money, but why the attitude - again, most of the time?

I suspect you ask 100 people which category is the worst for customer service, experience, empathy etc... and although I have no hard facts nor proof, i'm fairly sure mobile phone companies are likely to be at the bottom of the pile.

To me they just have this attitude where they just want to pick a fight.

...of course, the cynic in me thinks that O2 are being extra nice and cuddly to their iPhone customers because there is now more competition in the market place, and customers can now walk with their GBP £

Contradictory, yes. But why could they not be nice all the time, and I don't just mean O2 of course.

Answers on a postcard please, and no refunds, or exchanges are permitted, and you have 14 days to decide whether this phone is suitable, and we are gonna make it hard for you when you try and return anytime after that. If you want a repair, you can stuff it without a phone, because we have none available, and we don't care, because you can't go anywhere else, and you still have to pay for your contract. So there. Ha ha.

Only when it comes to the final month of your contract we are going to be nice to you, and love you so much, we might send you a box of chocolates for christmas. We might even call you 'sir' or 'madam', on the phone, we will even ask you: anything else we can help you with?

After you have renewed your contract, we are going to be complete and utter b@s2ards , and so the cycle continues.....

....breathe.......think of beach...calm down...relax...I feel so much better, getting this off my chest.

It's official - macrumors provides therapy, spread the word!

If it's a 30 day (1 month contract) then your safe to call O2, on 2302 from your phone, or 0870 607 2302. DO NOT MENTION where you bought the phone from, it's irrelevant. Don't mention the dirty word: Carphone Warwhouse either. The dummies gets confused if you say anything which does not register in their robotic heads.

Go through all the options on the phone, until you get to retentions (in other words, you are leaving O2). Only retentions will be able to offer you the tariff, no other robot is likely to know about it, or can offer it.

You of course can only do this IF you are on a 30 day contract, any longer than that, you need to wait until your contract is up (final 30 days of the contract).

The tarrif you want is called: iphone 20. Its £20 per month, give or take a few pence because of VAT changes. You get 600 minutes, 1200 texts, any network, anytime. Plus, and including, unlimted wifi and internet (data).

Let us know how you get on.

Tip: phone the robots before 5pm, they seem to get into a pickle if too many people call, so can't handle questions/calls.

Thanks for the tip. As I was travelling, could just call them today and they pretty much said what others have said below my post. Since it is from CPW, they are unable to upgrade me, though the nice lady in retentions did tell me to go ahead and get the PAC code from CPW and transfer over to O2 where they will be able to offer the IPhone simplicity contract without any issues. Just requested CPW for the PAC Code and hopefully should be able to move over before the new year.

Will update once I have successfully moved over to the IPhone Simplicity tariff

Thanks

I believe everything you say, so please don't mis-understand me. However, what I don't understand is, that my housemate, and many others got their phone at CPW, and millions got theirs at O2, even on the same day, and possibly the same time.

Yet, some are being told, forget it you HAVE TO go to CPW, and only they can deal with you, yet others, eg: my housemate who is also a CPW customer, got his done and dusted no questions asked?

Just doesn't make sense.

I think you have the right idea for asking for the PAC code, hopefully either CPW will come to it's senses and offer you the same tariff or hopefully you'll be able to transfer onto the O2 Iphone 20 Simplicity tariff.

Anyway, you see what I mean about mobile phones companies and their own laws of the land/rules, and the confusion this causes not only to customers, but even to them - their own staff!! Best of luck, keep us posted.

Mine says: O2 simplicity 20 for iPhone

Both online, and the iphone O2 App.

Check the data and wifi both unlimited is included.

Mine says Online simplicity 20 with unlimited web bolt on. I've asked o2 to look into this but so far no response to my email. I'm not that bothered about VV too much but since the change over my data has decided to stop working. :(

With regards to the data, you are aware that thousands, but not everyone, is affected with the problems O2 has been having over the weekend and into Monday?

Whether this has completely been fixed or not is unclear. Check the iphone forums on the o2 website.

I wasn't one of those experiencing problems over the weekend/monday.

it was working ok over the weekend. just seems to have stopped this morning.

On the phone to o2 as i write!! system problems again!!

nothing is ever easy is it??

I had no data service on my iphone for the whole of yesterday. Gave me something like 'Error with PDP authetication'.

It's working fine now.

I think it was a glitch in o2's data services - happens every now and then. If you look at the gloriously scurrilous tech rag theregister.co.uk*, you'll probably find a long list of o2 data network breakdowns.

* - Private Eye for the UK tech sector. And just as funny and indispensable §.

Strange, I got my iPhone from CPW but after collecting it I haven't spoken to them since, I've always dealt directly with O2; got my PAC number from O2 last week and my mobile no. is switching over to a Vodafone 30 Day sim only tomorrow.

O2 tried to make me stay, but after explaining that the signal was usually crap in my house the guy stopped trying. Roll on tomorrow! :)

Thanks for your upgrade order. We're currently processing your request
and will update you shortly on its progress.

Your order number is: xx-xxxxxxxxx

Order Details
-------------------------------------------------
consumer:Bundle O2 iPhone simplicity 20
consumer: Delivery: DeliveryFree Next Day Delivery

24 hours later and all gone through smoothly - My O2 on iPhone and O2 website now show my tariff as "O2 simplicity 20 for iPhone" (no mention of any bolt-ons).

Hooray! Even got out of my contract 1 month early.

Easiest process in the world was that! Call 202, press 2, press 2 again, get straight through to chap called Alex. Ask him if I can go on the iPhone simplicity tariff. He says 'no problem.' Everything as is with iphone except 1200 texts now, and because I did a deal with a client some time ago who works for O2, my friends and family discount ports over so I am now only paying £14 per month! And.... the change comes into force immediately so I will be getting a £15 refund on Jans bill.

I'm trying to upgrade online but the Iphone Simplicity tariff isn't showing anywhere and the online simplicity 20 is being priced up at £42.58 per month?!?!?

Guess I'll just do it by phone tomorrow.

Cheers for the heads up

Tip 1: read the thread, even if you skimmed through it without reading more than one page, you'll get your answer.

Tip 2: if you are that lazy, phone O2

Happy Christmas, from Scrooge :-(

Hi Scrooge. Wasn't asking for help or guidance just reporting what the website was displaying for me when I logged on.

Get back to your guarding your one lump of coal and maybe think of another way to keep warm rather than posting unnecessary comments?

oh, I've read it all - twice. There's just a bunch of posts about the network being down, people moaning that they couldn't do it online so they called 02 and posts from you being a grumpy arse.

I'm grateful for the info, you don't need to waste you time replying to this one.

Why not, need something to cheer you up love.

Anyway, you finally got it, it's called picking up the phone, you see, it was easy.

I tried ringing o2 customer service and they then transferred me to staff accounts who refused to change me to the o2 iphone simplicity tariff. They claimed this is not offered for staff accounts.

Did you deal with o2 customer service or staff accounts customer service?

Bunch of muppets aren't they?

What is it with Mobile phone companies and their customer service experience, and lack of communication, and empathy towards the customer?

...actually, don't answer that one, we don't have time in my lifetime to explore :D

are you on your period or something?

I've always had great customer service with O2. They are far better than other networks.

I called them on 13th Dec and was surprised on how easy the process was. I was switched over within 5 minutes on the phone and the new plan was active on my account within an hour.

So nazuk..if you like to moan..go get laid

Just because you've had great customer service from O2 doesn't mean other people have not been treated poorly.

While my recent experience swopping to the Simplicity tariff was faultless, my 9 month dispute trying to get O2 to sort out a contract that was fraudulently taken out using my details was anything but easy. It's not very nice having debt collection agencies chasing you for for a large sum of money while the only answer I seemed to get from O2's customer service was "We can't discuss that with you". I only managed to get it cleared up by doing a little research and bypassing the normal communication channels and going direct to the O2 Complaints Review Service and the O2 Fraud Department.

So while is is nice to know you've only had great service from O2 just remember there's another side to the coin which isn't so shiny.

Period? How stupid you are.... blokes don't get period's last time I checked.

Anyway, you are bound to get great customer service prior or during your contract expiration - you are after all talking to retentions, and their job is to keep you. Like I said, if you read my comments, they are nice as pie to you the final month, or the final days of your contract, then the cycle begins of being awkward, unhelpful, etc.

Period.... hmmm. /nothing happening down there.

I just phoned them about this and I should now be on O2 Simplicity 20 for iPhone. The entire call lasted for less than ten minutes and everyone I spoke to knew exactly what I was talking about. No problems so far - we'll see how it goes when the bill arrives.

Thanks for the Heads-up! ;)

Rung them this morning on 202. CS denied any knowledge of this package. So I requested to be transferred to get my PAC code. Very nic chap in retentions enquired why I wanted to leave. When I told him, he laughed and said that he could transfer me within 24hrs. I asked him to confirm the package - 600 mins, 1200 sms, free wi-fi and web, visual voice mail. Everything that has been mentioned here.

So, mixed CS from o2. Initial contact rubbish, very good when leaving.

So I've just got to wait to see if the transfer is as painless!

This is just going round in circles. After doing everything what the retentions team have mentioned to me, now they are saying they cannot offer as I am new customer with O2. After getting the PAC code, transferring my number over to a normal Simplicity plan with O2 direct, now the retentions are saying that this offer is only available to existing O2 customers who have been with them for 12 months on simplicity deal or an existing Iphone user.

I will try and call a couple of days later again, but so far my efforts to get onto this tarff has been unsuccessful. I now have the normal simplicity with unlimited internet bolt on
