Existing iPhone customers can upgrade early to the new iPhone 3G for free*

To thank you for being an iPhone fan, we're offering you an early upgrade to iPhone 3G. You don't have to wait until the end of your existing contract, all you'll need to do is agree to a new 18-month minimum term contract.

*Best of all, the new iPhone 3G 8GB won't cost you a penny on our £45 and £75 Pay Monthly tariffs for iPhone. And it's just £99 on our £35 tariff and new £30 tariff. If you'd prefer the 16GB version, it's free on our £75 tariff. Then you'll pay just £59 with the £45 tariff and £159 on our £30 and £35 tariffs.

This special early upgrade offer is only available until 11th October 2008.

The O2 site is SO misleading !!! on one page it states that the offer is only available on line but then on the 'existing users' page it says that! No mention of where and when existing users can upgrade!!!!!

O2 = JOKE

i rang up my bank again and they said they cant cancel it from their end, only o2 can!

guess that means i'll have 3 iPhones...and will have to return two before 14days..

Theres a limit of 1 per customer, dont worry you will be re-embersed

If the existing users can only upgrade online then what the F*** are O2 doing letting new customers pre order now when they have more chance of getting one in store on friday!!!!

This is the BIGGEST farce in th ehistory of farces.....

Well i asked in an O2 store about how come an exisiting iPhone user can't upgrade in a store and he said it was to due Apple holding the a/c information and they will not release it.

Personally i think he only just knew what an iPhone was...but thought i would pass on the story.

For those seeking clarity:

Existing iPhone customers upgrade early to the iPhone 3G before 11th October 2008.

Only available online.
This is the only way those of us with an iPhone already are gonna get one. As for the reasoning for that.... no idea.

O2 may change their mind on that front if this issue isn't resolved quickly enough.

Did ANYONE manage to get an order through?

Pretty sure no one on here did - and that give me confidence, us all posting here will be amongst the most determined to get an order through so it looks as thought the site just couldn't hack it.

That is a BULL**** answer from them... passing the buck i think!

Apple dont hold the a/c info if they did tehn how would O2 be able to do anything like bill us!!!!!!

"We are currently making improvements to the site to provide customers with an even better shopping experience. "

Quite. No wonder telesales threw a hissy fit on hearing about the online system turning on today, realising a website shop load of angry iPhone buyers would be coming there way...

I've just place a order, but I thought I would fail the credit checks, but I didn't , woop!!! lol anyway it says ' order in Progress' could they still say i've failed the credit checks or is that it, because I do have my order number aswell... so ?

I think quite alot of new O2 customers got orders in though. Did they not? Through the proper O2 online store (which is also offline now), not the bodged together upgrade bit? Hmm. Joke!

How did you get it ordered?
O2 shop is under maintanence for me??

Yes, it looks like new customers have been able to order handsets without as many problems.

So almost 2 hours have gone by and nobody has been able to upgrade. I really need to get to work!! So frustrating as I was online at 7:59 and it should all have been over by 8:05. I bet as soon as I get in the car the site will work, all pre-orders will sell out and then it's a 2 week wait for a new iPhone.

o2 suck big time.

I agree that it says that on one page but O2 have dropped the ball when it comes to consistency....

...This sort of thing NEEDS to be made clear on every single page that refers to the iPhone... they only open themselves up to criticism if they dont.

They haven't been consistent so i will criticise.

Should be fine. Are you a new customer then? No upgrade orders are going through!

I'm hoping they will not take £59 from my account based on the first online form I completed. Submitting this form simply directed me to the failsafe blank order form page.

Yeah they are doing the credit check now, you have neither passed or failed yet.

The second email they send says the order has gone to the warehouse. One would hope the warehouse staff are not deciding on credit worthiness ;)

I'm at the same ponit - just waiting for confirmation of delivery on Friday now

Yeah, that's what I meant. Johnny-come-latelys getting "that iPhone thing" cos it's cheap are filling their boots - loyal early adopters sat twiddling our thumbs.

The minute I heard upgrade was online only my heart sank.
