I still cannot access the web upgrade option - but I have managed to get through to the o2 call centre and have been assured that I can visit a store on Friday and upgrade that way. When I asked about stock levels the operator said that he did not know, and would not wish to speculate, so he seems genuine enough!

it seems stupid for o2 to not allow existing iPhone customers to upgrade in store as all you are going to have to do is activate though iTunes, like the original iPhone release. It shouldn't really require any additional work instore for staff as surly all they are gonig to have to do is make the transaction and then you do all the choosing at home?!?!!?

come on o2 sort your life out!!

I Got it to send me another code but won't go through to next stage yet! It goes back to the rubbish basic form!

It appears you can get more than one upgrade code - It must be a security measure to make sure your not pretending to upgrade or something!

Yep – if it crashes just request another code, I think.

They should have put it that if it crashes you can just reuse the code, but as they haven't, you have to keep requesting new ones to get past that screen. I've had 12 13 codes so far. :p

I'm not sure the basic form is anything worth bothering with, but with three or four of my codes I've got to a fancy basket screen, but I've never managed to get past it without it crashing.

As an existing iPhone customer or just an O2 customer?

I'm guessing it's to keep the in-store stock just for new customers - which I can understand, but find very frustrating for me as I've just wasted my whole morning trying to order!

I got onto the select phone and package section - using internet explorer and not firefox (may make a difference!).

I selected the phone but its not letting me add the contract!

I want to kick o2!

Not working for me either, have attempted multiple times, just get the error screen if anything at all. Going into town to the o2 store to see if they know anything; they probably don't!

Shambolic!

I guess that failover page was supposed to kick in if the servers were starting to get overloaded. All it did was to take your details down manually rather than through a fancy front-end. Then someone would sit down later and input the orders on to their system.

If it worked obviously!

As to upgrading in-store, I think someone who works in an O2 shop has posted that their information received today states you can't do this.

They should be taking this offline until they can cope with the demand. It's no use having a page up there and a computer sending out upgrade codes if the server fails under the demand every time it is rebooted.

That failover page does not give any confirmation.

I entered all my details and got nothing so I am trying using the upgrade code.

Keep trying until you get that method to work!

o2 shops won't be able to help you! just refresh!

Well Manchester Arndale o2 store says yes it can be upgraded in store. Apple Store Manchester says no upgrades according to current information.

What a mess!

What's to stop existing o2 iphone customers buying the 2.0 from CPW and activiating it on itunes with their existing numbers? I may have missed the obvious in all the excitement!

Chill guys

It's only a phone. A popular phone yes, but you can't really slag off the O2 for creating a website that falls over when demand is high. The same thing happens on every website.

Even if they got their predictions for demand wrong, you really don't NEED the phone on Friday. Last iDay, I had to wait till the Tuesday afterwards to get mine, even though it was purchased instore on iday (it was a gift). You'll be able to order on line (or walk into the shop if you are not upgrading), hassle free once all the fuss has died down.

Guys!!

Just to put it in perspective, my dad was leaving to go to Paris when I recieved the text message about the iPhone......he is now there!

O2 owe us big time!

Sorry but we cannot upgrade you online at this time. Please call 0800 131 3136 for further assistance.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

very good point lol!

i keep getting swept up with the hype and nearly buying an 8GB online when i really want a 16GB and inevitably would be pissed off i settled for an 8GB.

sit back, wait and be sensible is best option for me :D

Can anyone clarify?

Will I be able to buy an iPhone 16GB Black model on Friday morning in an O2 store?

I:
  • am an existing O2 pay monthly customer eligable for upgrade (past my minimum term)
  • need to transfer my existing phone number (I don't need a PAC code, right?)
  • want it on Friday

Best option - get first tube in on Friday, queue and pray?
