Can anyone clarify?

Will I be able to buy an iPhone 16GB Black model on Friday morning in an O2 store?

I:
  • am an existing O2 pay monthly customer eligable for upgrade (past my minimum term)
  • need to transfer my existing phone number (I don't need a PAC code, right?)
  • want it on Friday

Best option - get first tube in on Friday, queue and pray?

Yes, if you get there early enough.

As long as you're not an iPhone customer you should be fine - it's just those of us who already have iPhones (and are therefore getting an early upgrade) who are forced to use the bloody crappy upgrade site!

Don't deliver to work addresses

Annoyingly, the online store doesn't deliver to work addresses, only home addresses (and they don't promise any times on delivery, just 9-5 which is useless for those of us with jobs to pay for our Apple addictions), so actually it's better for me to pick it up from an O2 shop anyway.

So much for first come first served!

yer! nearly all of us are going to be existing iPhone customers and we are the ones who have been trying to get an order though for the last few hours now... and yet we are probs going to be the ones who will get it last!!!

very good point lol!

i keep getting swept up with the hype and nearly buying an 8GB online when i really want a 16GB and inevitably would be pissed off i settled for an 8GB.

sit back, wait and be sensible is best option for me :D

:) Maybe I should set up an iphone frustration therapy service.

Should be OK, the pac code only needed if switching network.

Email confirmation has just come through. Can also track online with My O2 ... 4hrs and 20 minutes in, I think I may have just ordered my 3G iPhone ....

This is crazy! What did they actually change? It seems just as bad as before!

They should get it sorted and then launch it again. It is very unfair that it is easier for new customers to order than existing customers. Where is the loyalty in that?

O2 have just taken the upgrade system offline for maintenance again!

Its still up for me.

Ya know, if I hadent just got a phone thats got all the features the iPhone does plus more (Skype! For free! Plus free data for £5 a month! Not to forget unlimited free MSN, video recording, MMS, Bluetooth that actually does something) for £40 on pay as you go, I would be whining about O2 making people wait for the Pay & Go iPhone 3G... But im not, as have the better phone right here...

Also, I just went in to the store and got it, no activation crap or trying to get through to numbers over and over again like you lot are.

Can we confirm that if you are an existing iphone customer you cannot upgrade in store?

how did you find out this? Can it be delivered to a different address than what's on your card?

There is no loyalty. They are already getting our money and we are all locked into 18 month contracts anyway so what does it matter to them if we can't upgrade? They would rather sort out the new customers who will bring in new money than the ones that they are already getting money from.

So I've gone round in circles with txt codes, filling out forms that then bring up an error.

Then...it asks me to ring a number! Hurrah!

I ring it, and it tells me "sorry, due to high call volume we cannot answer your all"

and hangs up on me.

My thoughts exactly!!!! I was awake as soon as the text arrived (before the store and upgrade were even online), and have still had absolutely no luck. In the mean time, others (mostly new customers) have swanned off with all the 16GB.

When it comes down to it, O2 may well fold and let everyone just turn up at certain if not all O2 shops, to get a 3G iPhone if you want. If getting one early on Firday is your priority, going to a store seems to be necessary currently. For some, but maybe not most, going to a shop isn't going to be too much of a hassle, and could be quite fun... Who wants to wait till late afternoon on Friday wondering whether the courirer is coming that day, or sometime in the next 2 weeks...
To be honest, if current iPhone users came into stores en masse, demanding an instore upgrade, i'm sure the staff would have to relent.

The furthest I have got in the upgrade is to select the phone and contract but it stopped working when I was trying to chose the contract!

This is insulting - its been almost 5 hours and no one can upgrade!

DONE IT!

Finally, after 4.5 hours.

The online system seems to be working ok, it's still a bit slow and makes your heart race when the spinny circle comes up, but:

16Gb iPhone, CONFIRMED, with an order number. Payment for new iPhone being charged to my o2 account.

I am so relieved.

So are the 16gb iPhones still available if you manage to click through on the upgrades page?

i think everybody just need to chillout.... it's not the end of the world not being able to order online.... i'm sure O2 stores and CPW will still have 16gbs' on Friday, you'll just have to do it the old fashioned way and queue :D
