this is just stupid, everytime i enter my mobile number on the upgrades page and it then txt's me with a new upgrade code, when i then click to create package it just goes back to the first page again!!!!

well at least we can all fill our phones up with endless different upgrade codes!!!

why can't we do this on the :apple:store that never seems to have many problems!

I think that O2 owe us all one hell of a big apology at some point soon.

calm down. Everyone wants an iPhone on the 11th. No-one has a right to a phone on that day, nor before. As a bonus, they have created a mechanism to phase in the rush before you the expected day- but have underestimated the rush - so it is filtering slowly. Some people have ordered, and randomly, some have not. It is disappointing for some, but that's life. Maybe wait until the stores are open, when everyone else was expecting to go and get their phone.

So are the 16gb iPhones still available if you manage to click through on the upgrades page?

Yes. There are still a few too many steps in the process imho, but you enter the text code, select the 18gb phone, select your contract... then you enter account number and date of birth. Then it asks you for payment (card, or charge to bill) then a summary, then confirm order.

Each of these steps is a new screen with spinny circle in between.

Very nerve wracking!

Have printed my receipt and order number. May just have to frame it!

i think everybody just need to chillout.... it's not the end of the world not being able to order online.... i'm sure O2 stores and CPW will still have 16gbs' on Friday, you'll just have to do it the old fashioned way and queue :D

If you are an existing iPhone customer then the only way to upgrade is online.

Ya know, if I hadent just got a phone thats got all the features the iPhone does plus more (Skype! For free! Plus free data for £5 a month! Not to forget unlimited free MSN, video recording, MMS, Bluetooth that actually does something) for £40 on pay as you go, I would be whining about O2 making people wait for the Pay & Go iPhone 3G... But im not, as have the better phone right here...

Also, I just went in to the store and got it, no activation crap or trying to get through to numbers over and over again like you lot are.

thanks for that useful insight...... very on topic!!

I'm still pissed at no White!!

Maybe if they don't fix this soon we should all sign a petition and send it in to o2 and send apple a copy with all of our receipts from previous apple purchases!

That might get them going

Here is a question - How do O2 know the people they send the phones to wont unlock them?

there currently is no way to unlock an iPhone 3g (because nobody has seen/touched/experimented with one yet)..... i reckon it'll be a few months before anyone can unlock one.

Yes, but it does say that your order may be delayed if there isn't enough stock. So perhaps the 16GB is sold out, they have updated the new customers page but not the existing customers' page yet, and you'll end up waiting.

After you enter your upgrade code and it goes to the spinny circle thingy, how do you know if it's crashed again? Does it tell you or just sit on the spinny circle forever?

DONE IT!

Finally, after 4.5 hours.

The online system seems to be working ok, it's still a bit slow and makes your heart race when the spinny circle comes up, but:

16Gb iPhone, CONFIRMED, with an order number. Payment for new iPhone being charged to my o2 account.

I am so relieved.

So are the 16gb iPhones still available if you manage to click through on the upgrades page?

Also, do you get to specify Black or White 16Gb?? Still struggling to get past clicking on tariff and phone options....

Mate, right now I'm just pleased to have got through the process with a confirmation number and a shred of sanity leftover!

By the time you've organised that petition of yours the White 16GB would have long been released. ;)

What a storm about nothing…

It will eventually show a page with very little content, then it crashed. You might not want to wait that long. Chances are it's crashed.

There's nothing quite like self-justification when you make a decision that you are not sure about.

You know that you really wanted the iPhone.

If you are totally honest with yourself, you know that you still want it. :)

The web server is crashing because of high demand and every so often it is being reset, either automatically or manually. O2 should be taking the server offline completely and taking steps to add more capacity, via more servers or beefier hardware.

Every time you see the "Please enter your mobile number" screen you have a very short time to make it through all of the steps before the server fails again.
