I think you will care when they take you to court.

Given that the phonecalls people are having with o2, including this one, seem to indicate their customer service is lying/misleading (purposefully or not), I think them taking people to court over such a matter would backfire on them.

At the very least, a quick word with some of the national papers about UK consumers being once again mucked around could publicly humiliate o2, especially if you 'spin' your wording right (or the papers do). Hell, throw in something about being gipped by immigrants and you'll make the Daily Mail's front page. ;-)

If you think O2 cocked up here, voice your displeasure here.

I am really amazed at the number of people in the poll who are okay with the way that O2 has handled this. O2 should bloody well let us upgrade in store as their Web-only implementation was a disaster that only punishes existing customers.

FWIW, O2 told me there have been "millions and millions" of customers trying to upgrade online from the original iPhone today. Out of curiosity, how many iPhones have been sold in the UK, and how many of those people are O2 customers?

Millions and millions?

When I refuted what he was saying, he asked if I was calling him a liar.

I simply replied that what he was saying was untrue, that they must be telling a lot of people these untruths today to cover their cockups, and that an ombudsman would agree with me.

What i find so funny about all this (and again , not directed at the poor people trying to get on the web site) is that on the one hand O2 complains about the number of people hacking the 1st gen, and then on the other they make the release of the 2nd gen such a c**k up!

Over the next few weeks we'll hear about more countries that will sell the iphone as a PAYG and unlocked (Optus is already advertising it) and we'll get them that way. O2 would have lost the sales and people will use whatever SIM they want, so O2 will lose our on the revenue on that as well. They cant complain about it but make it ridiculously difficult to order a contract or upgrade and delay the PAYG after saying it would be out in july!

As the radiohead song says "you do it to yourself, O2"!

SCREEEEAAAAMMMMM !!!!!

How annoying, this has been the most frustrating experience of my life!!

Been trying to order an upgrade from iPhone 1 since 8:10 this morning, I have 7 upgrade codes, managed to choose my phone and tariff 3 times and still not a successful order.

Whoever was responsible for this utter fiasco deserves the boot.

Grrrrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!!!!

Bri

Obviously you have never tried to get tickets to a big event, NO CHANCE.

i have been trying all day to upgrade and the webpages just timed out. tried again and now out of stock. how pissed am i. i got al the way through the order screen to where you put in all your payment details and then there was an error.

It doesn't matter if the fall back form is manual or not.

They should give us comfirmation and the site should work as it is meant to.

I have e-mailed O2 chief executive to complain and I advise everyone else here to do the same and maybe you will get somewhere.

His email is:

matthew.key@o2.com

The more we let him know we are unhappy the more likely we will get some kind of response by Friday.

It now appears that even the fallback page is gone! thank god some of us filled in out details on there!

When I go to the upgrades.o2.co.uk page I get the following.

i got the same! i have been trying since 8am...got close a few times but the system crashed! honestly this is shocking!

I have been following all the cr*ppy rumors about this phone intently since the release of the last one and was really looking forward to upgrading on Friday. I know its just a phone and life goes on etc but still at this moment i am P*ssed and feel somewhat cheated!

Right...just got off the phone to O2.

There is no anticipated time at which they will get back to us as to whether we have got one - it could be later today(doubtful) it could be Friday.

i doubt it will even be friday, and as o2 are very dedicated to customer service im sure they are going to just have 1 staff member going though the thousands and forms sent and this 1 member probably doesn't even know how to use a computer!!! Gahhh!!!! think im off 2 slit my wrists with the credit card here!!! :D

@Kerching

Thank for that. My imac was in danger of going out the window (along with MBP and Iphone), it now has a temporary reprieve of sentence.

Well O2 just secured it for me.

As far as i am concerned they can take their 3G iphone and stick it up their ass sideways. To be honest what was the point of asking us all to register our interest 4 weeks ago. They knew then who wanted one, so why not just start the process back then, send a text to batches of people interested and get them to phone in with a code. Then none of this melt down crap.

So for me, i am going to stay iphone 1 and just update the software. This whole process including the original iphone launch has just put me off Apple. Could they be any more like Microsoft if they tried, i think not.

God i feel bitter now,

E-mail Matthew Key and complain with a contact number and O2 may get back to you.

I put the e-mail above but its:

matthew.key@o2.com

I previously had problems with my iPhone and e-mailed Steve Jobs and got a call from corporate relations in the US so an e-mail to the CEO can only help!

emailed. I phoned O2 and was told unless I had an order number the order didn't go through. She checked my account too.

So O2 screw up and to make you feel better you want to destroy your own property…

People are seriously in need of some perspective.

Not sure if this is good or bad..

I filled in the 'other' online form and got this message

Thank you for your order. We are processing this and will contact you if there are any complications with the details you have provided.

Anyone else ??

Yup, I had this one too, no email or text message yet. I went into the Darlington store this lunchtime and was told that existing iPhone customers can get an upgrade instore from 8am on the 11th BUT there was no guarantee how many they will have in stock and no way to be sure of getting one.

This is nothing to do with Apple this O2's balls up ! Why they got us to sign up as you say is beyond me too. They created a situation where it really was an on your marks, set go, with everyone (old and new customers) hitting the same site at once.

It was a total disgrace. As to whether we can upgrade in store is still a mystery I have been told 2 different things today already one lady say you can get it direct from Apple if you want.

If today was bad what is the activation day going to be like !

David

Carphone Warehouse told me that I COULD upgrade in their store on Friday.

Who knows what to believe!?

It depends on what happens when you get the thing. Can you transfer number on iTunes? Do you register what tariff you want on iTunes?

If today was bad what is the activation day going to be like !

I imagine all the in-store computers will go down about 8:05 and we'll be hanging around waiting, if my previous experience with O2 is anything to go by (my last attempt to get a phone from O2, about 4 years ago.. and that was an ordinary saturday!).

At least in-store if you have a phone it's allocated to you so it's just a matter of waiting around until you can activate it and get the contracts sorted.

And to make it worse some idiot has listed one on ebay already :(

makes me sick

David

o2 customer services just told me, in all seriousness that you cant actually upgrade online. To which I pointed out that you can and was told again that you can't at all.

I'm confused surely not everyone who works for o2 is mental?

If you look at the carphonewarehouse site it says you can upgrade instore now - I guess pre-ordering as such.

From carphone warehouse:

I managed to order a 16gb and did get an order number, both on the final page of the transaction and in the Track my Order page.

My order is in progress, but I have not had email confirmation.
So you want to be checking on the website not in your mail box.

Paul

oooooooh

Bathing in the bad karma here ...

You all wanted an iPhone, so did lots of others. Lots of people got one on order, lots didn't. Its a bit like getting tickets for Glasto (not this year's Glasto obviously). But there's one difference, when event tickets sell out, they're gone, but now O2's out of iphones, it'll get some more.

And come on, you didn't really NEED it on Friday. Or if it really was that important to get one on Friday, then you need to get a life...

So O2 screw up and to make you feel better you want to destroy your own property…

What I meant was that if I had to continue to use the O2 site to no avail, my entire office would have gone out the window.
