Apple Stores in the UK will not be selling iPhone 3G (at least for now). The only two places where you can get one are Carphone Warehouse and O2.

I was in the Apple store this morning and they told me they WILL have the iPhone 3G from the 11th.

For those that do receive their iPhones on the 11th or near after, they presumably will need to log-on with iTunes to enable it..or at least to sync music etc. This needs iTunes 7.7. Is this out yet? When it comes will it be Leopard only? These may be the stumbling blocks to getting a working iPhone on the 11th.

i think if apple made itunes 7.7 leopard only it would be the final nail in the coffin for the iphone following todays exploits with o2.

itunes 7.7 will work in tiger

Just spoke to my old boss at o2 in Nottingham.

DESPITE what they put on the website they've just had confirmation that you'll be able to upgrade in store on the Friday if you're an existing iPhone customer.

Policy has been changed because of the way it went this morning.

ok are you sure this is what they said, no disrespect to you but did the person you spoke to sound like they knew what they was sayin or were they just talkin out of their ass?!?!

I have now phoned 3 stores local to me and all 3 have confirmed that existing iPhone owners can now upgrade in-store on Friday due to the troubles with the online ordering system. Apparently a memo was issued this afternoon.

I imagine the upgrade screen at o2 will change to reflect this on Thursday.

Woo!!

We just want to keep you updated on the progress of your order. Your order has now been passed to our warehouse for processing and we'll let you know shortly if it's been confirmed and when you can expect to receive it.

You can easily track the progress of your order online by visiting www.o2.co.uk/trackyourorder

Thank you for choosing O2. We look forward to welcoming you as a customer.

Regards,

O2

Was this through the failover form? Or did you get through the proper order form? Or are you a new customer?

The 'jesus' part was to emphasise the sigh as the subject had been posted a million and one times

no need to get the heckles up over it

quits

I can assure you my heckles are not 'up'. But I did like the way you got your quick dig in, and then end with a conciliatory 'quits'.

No more quits, 'cos then it will be jinx.

can you ask hime whether they will have any white iphones?

What a shambolic affair. O2 have destroyed their relationship with their current iPhone customers within 1 day. My view of O2 was a good one until 2day. So annoyed by today that I'm glad I kept my original iPhone for now and will be sticking with it for the forseable future. I do want 3G but not this badly, plus I just found out bt openzone wifi is now working, which softens the no 3g blow. Also not driving ATM so won't pain me to not have GPS. I'll be happy with the 2.0 sw come Friday.

Sorry but just can't stand being messed about and taken for an arse. IMO O2 have shown just how much they care about their existing customers by letting new customers and current order online... AT THE SAME TIME..FROM THE SAME STOCK POOL..Of course they would sell out!

ok if we are allowed to upgrade instore then forget what I just said (apart from O2 are crappola) I'll be waiting in line on Friday...so fickle!!

At last, someone with sense....

I called O2 again and to be honest layed it on a little bit thick. I was annoyed that O2 had had my card details and I have still not received confirmation.

The call centre opo out me on hold for a good 5 mins,

"ok, this is what is happening", "All the orders done on the 'failsafe' form are being processed manually and we are hoping to have these orders complete over the next 48hours"

"You will hear from O2 once your order has been processed, if you don't here anything before Wednesday afternoon by all means call us back"

So, I am starting to see a little bit of light at the end of a very long tunnel. IF they fail to confirm my order I will visit the CPW on Friday - nothing lost

From O2 web site:

Mac system requirements
USB 2.0 port
Mac OS X v10.4.10 or later
iTunes v7.7 or later

Window system requirements
USB 2.0 port
Windows Vista; or Windows XP Home or professional with Service Pack 2 or later
iTunes v7.7 or later

I presume this is info they got from apple.

Leemo, you're a star and should have stayed with O2. I think that you would have risen through the ranks very rapidly!

This is the best news I've had all day!

Now, let's hope that they don't change their mind again!

This is good. But the problem I see with it is, us having our upgrades confirmed, and money taken, but then being told it won't be delivered on friday, but within 2 weeks. That would be a bugger, unless they will let you cancel, and upgrade in store instead (I am not an iPhone customer, just normal o2)

You can always cancel an order that hasn't been dispatched yet.. so there's no loss.

This is likely to be the case.

They've covered themselves.

Your order may be delayed if we have stock shortages or if your order requires further security validation.

Hence why I'm going in-store on Friday.

Thanks for that. I'm going to call them myself tonight to confirm, but if so, that's great news. Still shouldn't have happened in the first place, but it's a step in the right direction...

Couldn't agree more! This whole incident has made me very reticent to extend my contract by another 18 months - I am tempted to stick with my existing iPhone and re-evaluate things at the end of the contract (next May)

Why isn't this on their website?

apple never post anything new on their website until the day of a release of the product to the public. Also the chances of buying an iPhone from the apple store i would think would be slim but who knows what might happen!!

Good news about the chance that we now may be able to upgrade in store!

Please let us know if you get a different story

I just spoke to a very nice man from the Hampstead O2 store.

He confirmed what has already been said in this thread - that O2 have changed their policy to allow in store upgrades. I also asked about whether they will have white iPhones in stock, and he told me that as far as he's aware they will do. Fingers crossed on that front, then.

Also, they're opening at 8:02.
