im so happy i got a chance to preorder early, i just called and they told me its on its way and should arrive between 12 - 5pm tomorrow :D

Back OT, I counted 468 O2 stores on that list.

OK, so that means:

approx 750 CPW stores
468 O2 stores
Say an average of 24 phones per store (going by a very pessimistic assessment of "a few dozen").

That's about 29-30,000 iPhones for the UK as a whole at a minimum, maybe about 10,000-12,000 of which will be 16Gb if the "40% stock will be 16Gb" rumours are true.

I still can't see there being 30K people lined up at 8.02am tomorrow waiting to buy, given that at the last launch there were a few hundred at each Apple store and either no lines or a couple of blokes and a dachshund named Colin at O2 stores/CPW. I reckon anyone getting there sometime tomorrow morning will probably get what they want.

Especially if the non-upgrade owners go to Apple stores.

Incidentally, I just spoke to my local Apple store (Kingston), who could neither confirm nor deny that they were getting ANY in. Apparently there will be an announcement on the main UK apple page later.

I agree with aIFR - the good thing about O2/CPW is they have a lot of distribution points (12 stores within a 1 mile radius of me). So I doubt you will see big queues, provided they all have at least 25 iPhones in stock.

OK...so the site says I have one on order.... and that it is in progress AND they have taken my money from my account BUT they saying one of my options is to go to an O2 store if I don't hear anything by 6pm!!!!!

Huh?! Will they automatically refund to my card until stock arrives as I am pretty sure they can't process payment without stock!?

The most frustrating thing is not knowing if I have been successful or not. If I haven't been I can live with that and sort something. But just hanging in limbo and get annoyed if they have taken payment for something they don't know when they can supply.

anyone know about O2 customers billed through CPW? Last year they had a separate bit of info about upgrading but this year none. I feel i should go to a CPW as i'm billed by them, but then again O2 are open an hour earlier i think so not sure whether to attempt to get one there or just get into the queue at CPW and wait!

99.9% sure that you can upgrade through either store - but this has been discussed in other threadsm so I would do a search.

Personally, if I was you, I would be inclined to try O2 as its stocks should be higher.

Looks like I may as well head back to my original plan to go to Notting Hill Gate and take my chances there. That means I have 58 mins from opening time to being in work, including a 15 min walk...

See you there ;)

I'm also considering trying the Apple store in Regent Street. I'm an existing O2 customer (not iPhone), and I've been told this:

I can go to the Apple Store, and start a new contract with O2.
Cancel my existing Simplicity (1 month rolling contract) contract.
Get a pay-as-you-go SIM card.
Get a PAC code for my existing Simplicity contract.
Transfer my number to the PAYG SIM.
Get a PAC code for my PAYG SIM.
Transfer my number to the iPhone contract.

Simple eh? :confused::eek:

Well done again O2  Although I'm not an existing iPhone customer I can see it's charming that they're basically now telling you not to bother getting the new one

Exactly, O2 is trying to make you feel better for not getting an update by talking up the one thing they have no control over (read the one thing they cant f**k up), which is the Apple 2.0 software.

Well done O2. "End of the summer!" Absolute morons. How about the new to iphone users? They (O2) have pretty much shown they cant do anything right and it goes from one f**k up to another.

I believe (hope) you're right. If O2 can't have me upgrade directly through them, then they shouldn't be smsing me every three days with crap about iPhones - CPW should instead.

Need something to be cleared up. When you buy in an O2 or CPW store, do you have to take out a contract there and then? Is it possible to just buy the handset (as a 16 year old) and then either unlock it or use it on O2 PAYG?

O2 extra statement

I've just received a text from O2 to got to a page with the original statement, but this is on the bottom of the page......full of the usual O2 BS!

Sorry if this has been covered already.

If you are one of those customers who tried to use our Online shop on Monday, you might like to read on.

I am sorry that you had a frustrating experience in trying to order iPhone 3G. This note summarises why it happened and what happens now.

From the start, we felt it was important that people should be able to register that they were interested and be kept up to date with each part of the launch. As well as giving people the information they needed to get a new iPhone, it would give us an idea of how many iPhones we would need from Apple.

An amazing 200,000 people registered on the site. Apple can only supply us with a small proportion of that number to start with, but with weekly deliveries, we're confident that everyone who wants an iPhone will be able to get one by the end of the summer. Until then, we realise that some people will be disappointed.

The people who'd registered on our site had the chance to order an iPhone before anyone else. We let them know that they could do this by going online on 7 July and we made it clear that it would be on a first come, first served basis to keep things fair, as stock was limited.

Naturally, we made sure we looked after people already on O2 as well as new customers. And in fact the orders that we received were split 50-50 between new and existing O2 customers.

What went wrong?

Because we were so open about where and when you could pre-order your iPhone, the online shop was always going to be busy. We tried to prepare for this by increasing the online shop's capacity to 250 times its normal rate and testing it over and over again before the launch.

It wasn't enough. I'm really sorry if you couldn't get your order in. We weren't prepared for the speed and volume of people. I'm not sure any website could have been.

What happens now?

If you ordered online and your order went through, we'll text you by 6pm tonight, just to confirm. You'll get your iPhone 3G delivered on Friday 11 July unless you live in one of these remote postcodes. If you haven't had a text by then, I'm afraid your order wasn't successful. Your options if you still want an iPhone will be to either go into a O2 store tomorrow and I would recommend you read the key points at the top of this page or alternatively, check the website in the future for stock availability.

Once again, I'm sorry if you had problems with the online shop on Monday. We're working very closely with Apple to get as much stock as we can for the UK, as quickly as possible.

Thank you

Cheryl Black

At this stage, the only way you would be able to get an iPhone from either of these stores is through a contract. As discussed, you have to do this in-store.

As far as I know, they are currently only selling them with a contract. So you'll need an 18+ family member there to either co-sign or take out a contract for you.

Sadly, your figures are out - because the number of units supplied from Apple to O2/CW, the average number of phones per store is a fair bit lower than 24... and that's before you take into account people that ordered online.

But isnt there 2 sets of stock, one for online orders (already gone) and one for the stores?
