AAARGH!!! A Koala is NOT a bear!!!

It's not called a Koala bear, it's just called a Koala!! It is not related to bears in anyway, it's a marsupial.

The type of power you get by typing in all caps?!

Just kidding, I agree, I want a dual core more than anything.

A video iPod sounds rad, so does new Powerbooks, but I think dual core with PCIexpress would be all that and a bag of chips.

has anyone heard this?

BBC 6 Music reports Apple video iPod to be unveiled in London next week

Wednesday, October 05, 2005 - 12:50 PM EST

BBC 6 Music broadcasts the latest news and music news every hour. The current online audio report (total run time: 5:00 min.) states, "Apple is set to unveil a new video iPod at the BBC Television Centre in London on October the 12th. The company is expected to reveal details of the new MP3 and video player as well as video bundles to be available from the company's iTunes stores." The Apple portion of the report starts at 4:06.

Go to: http://www.bbc.co.uk/6music/ and click "Listen to the latest music news" in the "Music News" section or try the direct link to the report here.

This is bad news for the powerbooks

The only reason that I think macintel could be coming out during this event is because theoretically apple could have been working on the intel PM/PB since OSX first came out. And they had a working prototype for the release of the intel switch.

I just cant believe that apple is hopeing to make it through the holiday season on just basicially an update to the mini and the AVpod. While this is certainly doable, the hardwear is completly missing. I could have bought a PB 9 months ago and it would still be upto date!

I read that the video iPod segment was pulled. Maybe the segment ticked off Apple.

That's OK, I just hope you know it's true and will tell the rest of your mates whenever they call the sleepy little buggers "Koala Bears." Slap them silly, then explain the whole marsupial thing.

Where Is An Invitation??? Anyone Seen One They Can Post?

We keep talking about the invitation. Has anyone seen one? I would personally like to see what they look like as I am sure many others would too. So, can somebody find one and post a link to it or a pic here on the thread? If you do that, YOU ROCK!

Heck No! Unless...

Like several of you, the curtain thing doesn't mean much to me.

But the invitation, the stage, the build up Apple has clearly intended does mean a lot.

So...

Think Secret is often right but they may have swallowed some bad bait on this one. Apple's cachet of cool is too valuable to be spent on updated PowerBooks and PowerMacs which, as neat as it might be for us, just doesn't mean a thing to the rest of the world.

Not a *thing*.

Don't let your love for Apple blind you to the fact that, in the rest of the world a features upgrade on a CPU doesn't even warrant a mention, let alone a special press conference.

Apple has intentionally focused the eyes of the world on that day. So its got to be either an entirely new product or strategy. If not, the press will walk away shaking their heads like they did after the Google/Sun non-announcement.

There are only two ways that it makes any kind of sense as a Pro Macs update...

1. They have already designed new systems that will work with PPC but that can still be utilized for the Intel systems. The benefit there would be twofold: they release a snazzy new design to punch up PPC sales and make the transition appear seamless to the non-geek crowd.

2. As improbable as it seems, they are going to release Intel-based systems next week.

Koalasupial is difficult to pronounce when I drink the drop shown in your photo. But you're onto something here. Where did we get Koala Bear?
Are we going to call the new iPod Video the iBear.

Talking on notebook updates: is there any iBook update expected until the end of 2005? I'm planning to get one in December, but I'm a little affraid of doing that after reading all this thread.

You should be...they'll be the first updated (or at least, so the rumors go)

This causes me to stick by my thinking that we won't have intel macs in our hands at least until February or March of 2006.

I don't think that's a sure bet, but I DO think your prediction is the most likely :)

(But I also think it's very likely that Apple won't draw the transition out unless they have to: so the only PPC holdover into 2007 might be the Xserve.)

So pissed...bought a 17" new yesterday. Convinced updates were a ways off.

Anyhow, assuming they announce powerbooks, what is the best way to get one fast, online at apple or from the apple retail store?

Any past experience? :D

Good point, I think the Xserve will be the last to see the update. However, I bet it's not the only mac getting updated in 2007, a transition this big has to be a huge amount of work for apple.
